SS OU RMT: 2076 RTS & Military Tactics Balanced Team (Peaked #1 )

3 years ago I accidentally found that the tactics used in some RTS games have many similiarties with those which are used in Pokemon Battles/Ever since then I spent 3 years throughtout Gen7 and Gen8 and finally made my concludsion——RTS tactics can be put into use in Pokemon Btlles frequently.Today I’m going to introduce how these two “unrelated”thing are finally combined.Well,to start with, let’s settle from the teambuilding process of the “Lead Lease Tactics Commander”.
IMG_20200616_071121.jpg

The”Lend Lease Tactics” is a series of combat tactics from the RTS game 《Company of Heroes 2》.The aim of these tactics is to suppress the enemy with heavy support fire and finally crush the opponent’s line with deciding armor power due to the advanced supply on fuel.

Then we can analogy this kind of tactics to the tactics used in one single Pokemon Battle. We can consider using the similiar tactics that aim to crush the opponents’ attack waves and then organize a powerful counter-attack to breakthrough the opponents’ line.Obviously this is exactly what a balanced team can do when facing offensive or another balanced team.If we keep going along this way we can then start our teambuilding process and build a team that actually use “RTS & Millitary tacitcs”in Pokemon Battles.

When being askes the question “What do you need to use to stop the enemy from breakingthrough the defense line by holding the line tightly?”My answer will then automatically come up.As a ordinary battle observer,I have to admit the Corviknight-Clefable-Toxapex core might be the best choice to hold up the defense line for a balanced team,Unlike the environment in Gen7,the encounter in the ladder games in Gen8(before the release of the DLC)don’t have piercing attacker like Hoopa-Unbounded or heavy fortifications unit like Chansey. This provides a huge room for balanced teams to survive. And it also rippen the revolution of the balanced team building process. After the core of our balanced operation is set,we should then consider what we need to do to suppress the opponents with support fire and how to organize an effective counter-attack by using a balanced core.We then came up with the prototype of the team—— ”Lend Lease Tactics Commander I”

By putting up the defense line with Corv-Clef-Pex, we are able to resist most of the attack patterns.Common physically based attackers like Zeraora or Terrakion cannot break Unware Defensive Clefable fluently (252 Atk Life Orb Terrakion Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Clefable: 187-220 (47.4 - 55.8%) -- 21.5% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery; 252 Atk Zeraora Plasma Fists vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Clefable: 129-153 (32.7 - 38.8%) -- 4.7% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery ) .A Flying-Steel built Bulk Up Corviknight can resist Timid Specs Kyurem when switch in without hitting by rocks ( 252 SpA Choice Specs Kyurem Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Corviknight: 177-208 (44.2 - 52%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery ) while giving the team a weak breakthrough point .And with a pivot Hyderigon we can freed Corviknight from being a Defoger and then we can use Defog more oftenly due to the suppressing Fire Blast is able to ohko Bisharp( 72 SpA Hydreigon Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Bisharp: 272-322 (100.3 - 118.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO ),who is often switch out to block the Defoger from using Defog. And at the same time it overspeeds Suicide Lead Excadrill which means you can click fire blast twice to get these offensive threats down.Although the support fire from Kyurem and Scarfed Darmanitan is not so powerful, they are effcient on suppressing common attackers like Togekiss or Hyderigon who want to breakthough the defense system. However low fire power and the devotion to defensing will also bring uo tons of problems like “How to organize a effective counter-attack?” or “How to breakthrough a fortifications system ?” By settling from these issues found in the ladder games and then adjusting the settings we can easily solve them.

Now,let’s have a look at the forth edition of the team: “Lend Lease Tactics Commander IV”
Paste:https://pokepast.es/3fe0c2d364ad72ee

These new replacements enable the team to suppress the offensive teams which are running without the ability to deal with Toxic Spikes from approaching——even if a bounch of toxic spikes can destroy them.Meanwhile,a calced 319 Spe pivot Hyderigon can easily deal with more offensive threats like Specs Kyurem( 64 SpA Hydreigon Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Kyurem: 390-462 (99.7 - 118.1%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO ), Life orb Kommo-ko or a Rotom-Heat while ensuring keeping the ability to stay bulky .
1592291782897.png
The heavy support fire provided by Specs Kyurem and Choice Bnad Darmanitan helps a lot to drive away attackers like Togekiss and provides heavy suppressing fire to fight against the fortification system.Fortifications unit like Clefable or Corviknight will be seriously threaten by them (252+ SpA Choice Specs Kyurem Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Corviknight: 195-229 (48.7 - 57.2%) -- 44.5% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery ; 252 Atk Choice Band Sheer Force Darmanitan Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Clefable: 354-417 (89.8 - 105.8%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO ). This without doubt provides the heavy support fire we need to breakthrough the common fortifications system.

Now lets get back to the RTS combat analysis. The mystical power of the stratgies used in RTS games is not only the inspiration of tactics used to armor up units, but the operating methods a single player is performing in combat like”When to launch a attack wave, when to get back to the defense position or where to make a trap to crush the enemy”. These psychological operating experience is much more important than remembering how to build a team. Just like the introduction of the “Lend Lease Tactics”——if you combine the ability of using psychological analysis in Pokemon Battles with the basics knowledge you learnt on the way of becoming the one you are manage to be in this field, you will finally find youe own best way of operating and teambuilding.

The best way of denfense is to attack.”Prussian General Carl von Glausewitz mentioned this quote in his 《On War》 said by Hannibal Barca, an ancient stratgist. This theory is not only effective on the real battlefield. In other stratgic games like 《Company of Heroes 2》,《Blitzkrieg II》 and 《Sudden Strike IV》 and finally Pokemon,it can also be of great help if you are willing to devote yourself into the research.

Wait! Are we talking about the relationship between defensing and offensing? Well, let’s take a deep step into this quote——”The best way of defense it to attack.” Yes,in some ways attacking will be more effective than defensing if the power of the two sides is almost equal. Why now give it a try?

Then we finally come to the final edition of the team——“Lead Lease Tactics Commander V”

These replacements maxmized the ability to offense——due to the former type of Corviknight is too slow to take up the responsbility to organize a counter-attack,and the Scarfed & Banded Darmanitan are both not proper for break fortifications like Toxapex and defensive Kommo-ko,Finally we decided to use something completely new and deadly—— a Power Trip Corviknight and a Life Orb Darmanitan.A 212 Spe Corviknight can overspeed 423 Spe Zeraora after using Agility while being able to use Bulk Up before hitting by Plasma Fists, which will then active Weakness Policy and push forward the process for counter-attack.
1592292641795.png

A Life Orb Damanitan could 2ko most of the targets unless he meets Quagsire, but it will not be a big trouble because you can then predict and click Toxic frequently if the opponent doesn't really have anything else to switch in.
1592292186796.png
(The threatening damage of Darmanitan.)

Here’s some replays which show the unexpected offensing ability of Corviknight and Darmanitan:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8ou-1124779987-p8ahql4grgt6mfjyz55any465shvu0lpw
As you can see Darmanitan suppressed the whole opponent's defense movement, and then after taking Hippodown who can click Whirwind to the Power Trip Corvknight, the whole defense line is broken up because the opponent cannot deal with the Corviknight in the following turns.
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8ou-1124786298-9pzvpufmm4jrtac79idhsbuef1b1wcfpw
Corviknight is a surprising breakthough point to most of the opponents because of the low usage of the Power Trip Corviknight. But actually it does deal tons of damage if the opponent doesn't obtain the ability to drive it away or take it down quickly because, you know, that's a Power Trip one
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8ou-1125276453-5bw96a6fjlz01gj904xvljn3tsrai5ipw
And there's one thing that you need to get awared of : After overspeeding the opponent, Power Trip Corviknight can always win the match when competiting with other physically based attackers who are also willing to get into the chasing of "6 times on Bulk Up" unless you are unluckily hit by a critical hit.
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8ou-1107276543-ny7avac7x2122cmb799ejuqqhlxfk6wpw
Lastly, the most interesting thing is that the Power Trip Corviknight can also be used as a PP consumer because Agility actually have 48 pp and Corviknight has the ability called Pressure.Even if Corviknight is burnt, the bpw of Power Trip will be 190 while going with 840 Atk.So the thing you need to do is not thinking about how to getting back to your defense position to drive away this kind of Corviknight. The only thing you need to do is to destroy it with your support fire.
This is my own understanding on finding the best balance between attacking and defensing——the most vital thing you need to do is to find your own best operating method and then pioneer the most suitable balance between offensing and defensing.Remember, you should reach out your hand to take the initiative of the combat automatically rather than handing it to your opponent. This will be the deciding reason of why your “PLOT” can be effective and the opponents’ can’t. Reconing , doing the right gambit on the opponents’ movements and make some nasty traps for them will finally lead you to the victory.

Now that you may have a general knowledge of how RTS & Millitary tactics are used in Pokemon Battles. It’s hard to explain them all here because it is a very long process. In a word,it’s not the amount of knowledge on the basical settings you obtained that decides your combat skills in Pokemon Battles. It is how well your are connecting it with your own psychological or mathmatical analysis that helps you to beat the opponents and the past of yourself again and again and finally lead you to the heated “Burning Battlefield of Pokemon”.

I.If you hates Togekiss a lot, then you might in need of this “IS-2 Heavy Tank”! It is super effective to Togekiss and most Fortification system! Use it at will to breakthrough the enemy defense line!
Importable:
IS-2 Heavy Tank (Kyurem) @ Metronome
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 20 HP / 236 SpD / 236 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Icicle Spear
- Substitute
- Roost
Example:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8ou-1125355127-ky0fi1w30n991ur3oxj7ok0glaf76qkpw
This kind of Kyurem is the critical unit to breakthough most fortifications system due to they don't have can do nothing to take it down. You can switching this bulky but deadly "Heavy Tank" onto Toxapex or Clefable or Covknight and other fortifications mon that can't even 2ko it.And without any effort you can go ahead to victroy if the opponent doesn't get any preperation for this dreadful Kyurem.( 0 SpA Clefable Moonblast vs. 20 HP / 252 SpD Kyurem: 168-198 (42.4 - 50%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO ; 252+ Def Corviknight Body Press vs. 20 HP / 0 Def Kyurem: 180-214 (45.4 - 54%) -- 46.9% chance to 2HKO )

II.If you’re thinking the HP of Darmanitan is losing too fast, and receive no supply from Clefable, you may replace “Toxic” to “Rest” to active the skill “Field Maintance”.Just remember to call Clefale to use Heal Bell first before the crews get on the battlefield again!

III.If you think the speed tier in this team is to slow, just replace the Hydra’s
1592293352533.png
Leftovers
1592293274937.png
to Choice Scarf
1592293310216.png
!It will be fine if you don’t meet the situatuon that need to deal with fast attackers who are hard to take down.Find out which enemy unit learned “Knock Off” and let him to knock off your Scarf.

Why are you using unaware on clefable instead of magic guard? And between the choice specs and metronome kyurem, which one do you think performs better overall against the current meta? Your team is pretty weak to hazard setters from my experience as well, especially sticky web

An Unware Clefable can easily handle sweepers like Bulk Up or Calm Mind Zeraora,Swords Dance Terrakion and Mimikyu by sticking to the contiununs wish support. It can even also stop Nasty Plot Life Orb Hydreigon if your HP is more than 75%(252 HP / 4 SpD Clefable: 242-286 (61.4 - 72.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery),and you can consider knocking off the life orb first to reduce the damage taken from Hydreigon. If we are running a magic guard one these attackers will be our great problems. The team actually doesn't have a problem when encountering Web team or Hazard Spikes setters like Mew because you can then send out Darmanitan at the first turn to 2ko Shuckle with Flare Blitz and use Zen Headbutt against Ribombee & Accelgor and finally have about 70% chance to ohko Red Card Mew by using Flare Blitz(252+ Atk Life Orb Sheer Force Darmanitan Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mew: 383-452 (94.8 - 111.8%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO).Then a piovt Hydreigon going with Fire Blast will help you get out away from the annoying rocks. That ensured the suviving ability against a web team or Hazard Setters
Example plays:
Vs Ribombee Web:

In this meta a Specs Kyurem can threat almost anything except fortifications like Snorlax. Use a Metronome Physically based one to breakthrough the defense line that specs Kyurem cannot handle by combining the Haze support from Toxapex. So there's no preference between these two settings because they have totally different usage.

So metronome kyurem is to counter the Pokémon that would otherwise wall specs kyurem? Also, what do you think about u-turn or rock slide instead of toxic on darmanitan?

Actually Metronome physically based Kyurem can handle most wall the who is likely to switch in to the Specs Kyurem like Snorlax or the Chansey now after the release of DLC. Curse only have 16 pp so a physical Kyurem make Snorlax use Curse for defensing, then Toxapex will reset the states and consume the pp of Curse for Kyurem to breakthrough. Chansey actually do nothing to this Kyurem if you have 405 HP going with Substitute.Meanwhile this Kyurem can threat the mons who cannot 2ko him, this enables Kyurem to threat teams who are intending to win the game by consuming. The effective targets for Darmanitan's Toxic are Quagsire and Seismtoad,so if you want to keep using Flare Blitz you need to learn Rest to keep Darmanitan healthy. Another purpose for using Life Orb is that it can easily be mistaken as a Banded one. So you need to active "Sheer Force"as much as you can,so using U-turn here might be improperate.

it is a team built before the release of the DLC,so if you want to do against Alakazam you need to do some defensive replacements
So with the release of the DLC, how would you change the team to handle them? Also, how would you handle a Magnezone matchup? I’ve lost several times once clefable was down, and choice specs kyurem gets 2ohko’d by it.

If I'm going to keep using the team in the DLC meta I'm going to replace Kyurem to Lighting Rod Maroawk-a and use a Spdefensive Shed Shell Corviknight with U-turn and a scarfed Hydreigon to deal with Alakazam.

Hey, I´ve just seen the team and it looks so great. I´m returning to the competitive and I want to try out the team. What changes did you do to use it in the current meta? And what do you think is the best team variant? (I IV or V)

As what I have just said,it's a pre-DLC team so it is surely improper to use the team here in the new meta. If you do want to try out the team you should handle the team's weakness like Alakazam,Magnezone and Volcarona. Maybe a Shed Shell Spdefensive Corviknight and using a double ghost (Shadow Bone+Poltergeist)Lighting Rod Maroawk-a rather than Kyurem will be the point to continue using the team in the new meta. These replacements are based on type"V".

Ok thanks for the reply, I´ll try out that
