ORAS OU RMT: Dance, Dragon Dance (Mega Gyarados Team)

Hello smogon (and Sparkly) to my second RMT. My first RMT was a mega salamence and after his tragic banning I spent a lot of time trying to find a mega to build a team around. Eventually I settled on mega-gyarados as it has access to the insane power that is dragon dance, intimidate before mega evolution and it gains Crunch in ORAS. I can't find any sprites so I can't include a team building process but I will include reasons for each poke. Please bare in mind that this is a team designed for wi-fi battles in-game and does include a low-level uber.

Stalin (Gyarados) (M) @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Taunt
- Crunch
- Waterfall
The centerpoint of my team and an absolute monster, intimidate gives plenty of chances to set up if you bring him in right. The moveset and EVs are standard, Dragon Dance boosts speed and attack to insane levels allowing him to sweep entire teams. Taunt allows stops Pokes that try to inflict him with status conditions or stop pokes from recovering. Crunch and Waterfall provide decent coverage, if you hit neutrally most pokes will be OHKO'd after a boost. 252 Atk to hit hard, 252 Spe and Jolly to patch up his sub-par speed and 4 HP for a tiny bit more bulk.

Carrie (Gothitelle) (F) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Shadow Tag
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe
- Trick
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Psyshock
- Thunderbolt
Once I had Gyarados decided upon I started thinking about what threatened it, my first thought was bulky grass types like Ferro and Amoongus as well as bulky steel types like Skarmory. My first thought for dealing with them was Magnezone, I then realized that Mach Punch users like Conk and Breloom are also a problem so I switched to Gothitelle instead as with HP Fire it can trap and kill all the aformentioned pokes. The moves and EVs are standard for what it needs to do. Max SpA and Modest to do the most damage with specs, Max Spe so that I can outspeed some slower pokes and 4 SpD for some better special bulk. Trick can cripple opposing physical and support pokes, HP Fire hits Ferro and Scizor insanely hard, Psyshock is for STAB and the OHKO on Assauly Vest conk and thunderbolt is for T-Flame and other flying types. Specs are used to hit insanley hard.

Butcher (Aegislash) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Stance Change
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpA
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- King's Shield
- Sacred Sword
- Shadow Ball
- Shadow Sneak
Ah Aegislash, how I miss thee, this is the low level Uber I mentioned. This guy is a great partner for Mega-Gyarados, giving him many opportunities to come in for free since his only weaknesses are Fire and Ground, Base Gyarados is immune to ground and resistant to Fire. Other than that he serves a check to priority users that would otherwise threaten mega-gyarados.King's Shield is obvious as it can keep it change to Shield Forme and cripple physical attackers. Shadow Sneak and Sacred Sword are good coverage and Shadow Ball nails physical walls. Brave and 252 Atk allows Aegi to hit hard with Shadow Sneak, Iron Head and Sacred sword as well as slowing it down so that it can stay in Shield Forme. 252 HP gives it extra added general bulk and 4 SpD for some more specific bulk.

Narcissus (Sylveon) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 SpA
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Heal Bell
- Protect
- Wish
- Hyper Voice
My teams cleric, if Gyarados gets burned or paralyzed it's more than a serious problem, it's down right gg right there. I was orignally going to use Clefable for this role but I wanted something some more offensive presence, Sylveon's Hyper Voice provides that presence. Wish and Heal Bell support the team, Protect allows Sylveon to be healed by the wish if it's really needed and Hyper Voice hits pretty godammm hard. There's no point in investing EVs' in defense as Sylveon is unbelievably frail physically, this EV spread capitalize's on Sylveons natural Special bulk instead. Leftovers give some gradual recovery.

ferrothorn_by_cannibal_cartoonist-d49mc5z.jpg

Cuddles (Ferrothorn) (M) @ Shed Shell
Ability: Iron Barbs
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 168 Sp Def / 88 Def
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Leech Seed
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
Ferrothorn is my team's Stealth Rock setter and a very versatile pokemon, honestly there's not much I can say about this one, he's just fantastic. Stealth is fairly obvious, Leech Seed gives some nice recovery and some decent DOT. Gyro Ball hits really hard on faster pokes and Power whip can hit bulky water types really hard. EVs are standard, bulk up the ass. Shed Shell allows him to escape pokes like Gothitelle and Magnezone.

greninja_by_vkarend-d6q19ep.png

Grenigga (Greninja) (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Protean
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 40 Atk / 216 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Dark Pulse
- Gunk Shot
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
Finally we have Greninja, such a versatile pokemon right now and one that, at least in my opinion, should be on every team. He's so effective in taking out so many pokemon. The moves are standard for coverage, Hydro Pump is a bit unorthodox but anything hit neutrally by it will be hit hard. The EVs are the usual for this set 40Atk for a guaranteed OHKO on Azu with Gunk Shot, 216 SpA for more damage on other moves and Max Speed so that he can outspeed many different pokemon. Life Orb for a little extra oomph.

So that's my team, I hope you like it and I'm sorry if this thread is in the wrong place, this team is meant as an OU one for use in game and Aegi was just such a fantastic partner that it was necessary, thanks for reading and have a great day.

Are you obsessed with me?

Hi! This is a nice team, and I love the in game Wifi Battles. But no team is perfect, and this one sure could use some work. Onto the rate!

First of all, I would change Moonblast to Hyper Voice on Sylveon, since you can easily teach it through ORAS move tutors. Also, run an EV Spread of 252 Sp Def / 252 HP / 4 Sp Atk since Sylveon can't live much even with Defense EVs invested.
Next is Ferrothorn, and I would run an EV Spread if 252 HP / 168 Sp Def / 88 Def so you can live quite a few hits. Keep the Sassy nature.
On Aegislash, you have no Steel moves! I recommend replacing Shadow Ball/Sneak with Flash Cannon/Iron Head. You need these to deal with Fairies.
Aegislash can run his Speed IVs since he's not running Gyro Ball.
Make sure to run 0 Atk IVs on Gothitelle
Other than that, your team looks good.

Hope it helps.

Thanks, I completely forgot about Hyper Voice and the new EV spreads make sense as well as the steel move on Aegi. I can't run 0 Atk on Gothitelle as it would conflict with HP Fire. As for the speed IVs, if blade aegi's defense's are terrible, if outspeed something and don't OHKO it I've lost aegi then and there.

0 Atk IVs don't effect Hidden Power Fire since it's an Even number. Don't worry, I made the same mistake.
The Aegislash's IV set is understandable, thanks for explaining that.

Looks fairly good, although you may want to invest in more fire type moves than Gothielle's HP Fire.

Also, According to the damage calculator, you will get ripped a new one by a Unaware Clefairy.

It's the second set in Clefairy's Smogon Page, And a single moonblast will deal 47%-56% of your Gyarado's health,

While Simultaneously ignoring your Dragon Dance boosts with Unaware. The Moonblast damage will deal pretty much the same damage Wish will heal.

This is a very large problem, and I'd suggest investing in some poison damage on your team. With leftovers heal you will only be able to 2HKO it if you

get a crit, or get incredibly lucky. (Waterfall Deals 33.5 - 39.5% of Clefable's Max HP)

Thankfully, Unaware Clefable isn't really heavily used, but it's something to keep in mind.

Gothitelle kind of deals with Unaware Clefable but not amazingly well, what would you recommend?
Anything with a Decent poison or steel type stab will probably do.

I haven't really played against an actual unaware clefairy and I have around 200~ games atm, so I wouldn't worry TOO much about it.

EDIT: Iron Head might be good on Aegislash, and Flash Cannon on Ferrothorn, although any of their respective moves being swapped out will cause more losses than clefairy probably ever will.

F-Flash Cannon on Ferrothorn?! No. Nnnnno. Always use Gyro Ball, possibly use Flash Cannon on Aegislash, but not Ferrothorn.
Since you have Ferrothorn, Unaware Clefable isn't a threat, Gothitelle is perfectly fine.

Note :
• Unaware isn't used on Clefable as much as Magic Guard + Life Orb / Magic Guard + Leftovers + Calm Mind.

I might change Gothitelle to scarf instead of specs, so she can reliably trap more pokemon w/ better speed and cripple a bit more walls with Trick.
Gyarados got Crunch in ORAS? THANK GOD!

Quick nitpick; since M-Dos has mold breaker, it ignores Clefable's unaware and has a high chance of 2HKo'ing Clef after rocks:
+1 252 Atk Mold Breaker Mega Gyarados Waterfall vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Clefable: 196-232 (49.7 - 58.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery (not guaranteed since it can protect to regain lefties health, but you can try to be gutsy and DD on the protect)

Also, Unaware Clefable is rather common on the mid/high ladder because of its great ability to check top mega threats in M-Sableye, M-Slowbro, M-Gallade, and M-Cross.

I might do a formal rate later if I have time but I immediately see a decent weakness to Talonflame.

I'll try out scarf Gothitelle, good to know with mold breaker, that's a bit confusing. I am a bit weak to t-flame but Banded T-Flame can't OHKO Gyarados and Gyarados can OHKO it without a boost, stealth rock takes a crap ton off as well.
