RMT my 1st successful team

it seems i posted a just a tad bit too little info in my last topic about this team... so now it's time to fix that problem and continue on improving the team:

Changes will be in Bold

In Depth

The Lead
94.png

Gengar @ Choice Scarf
-Modest-
252 SpA / 252 Spe / 6 HP
Trick
T-Bolt
Shadow Ball
Focus Blast

i just LOVE this guy. he screws up virtually all set up leads, messes up walls, and can be saved for some Revenge Kills. very versitile and usefully on any team IMO. T-Bolt helps out vs Bulkie Waters or Garya and can take out those rare Aerodactyl/Ninjask leads, STAB Shadow Ball is nice vs other Ghosts (expecially un-Scarfed Gengars), and Focus Blast 2HKO's Gross while OHKOing Weavile and TTar, all of which can generally mess teams up if not taken care of

The SRer
260.png

Swampert @ Leftovers
-Relaxed-
240 HP / 216 Def / 54 SpA
Stealth Rock
Surf
Ice Beam
EQ

Standard MixPert and this guy helps provide some Phy. Bulk onto the team. his 1st objective is to get Rocks down, after that i just come in to counter Phy. Theats: Surf takes out other Grounds nicely and gets STAB, Ice Beam nails those Dragons (mainly used if Flygon is gone/crippled), or EQ for (STAB and) Steels and Fires. he defiantly helps me vs Dragons once Flygon is somehow out of the picture. plus, he can basically becomes a weaker, slower version of Flygon if needed Late Game (if threats are gone)
(works WONDERS with RestTalk Gyara. both cover some nice weaknesses and help the team on the defensive side of things)

The DD Tank
130.png

Gyarados @ Leftovers
-Careful-
252 Atk / 82 Def / 176 SpDef
Rest
Sleep Talk
Dragon Dance
Waterfall

now this monster is amazing. he takes status and keeps on trucking (it's always nice when they sleep him and go O_O the next turn)! he easily comes in on Fighting, Water, Ground, Grass, etc. thus helping quite a bit of my teams weaknesses. DD and Waterfall confuse most people into thinking this is the Standard so i get quite a few free set ups... pretty simple strategy here: Rest whenever needed, then Sleep Talk to boost yourself with DD or hit with a STAB Waterfall (a STAB +2-6 Waterfall can hurt nearly anything. lol)
(Gyara really helps with my teams weaknesses. between him, Weezing and Pert i think i can say i have a nice defense)

The Phy. Wall
110.png

Weezing @ Leftovers
-Bold-
252 HP / 252 Def / 6 SpDef
T-Bolt
Flamethrower
Will-O-Wisp
Pain Split

when i 1st saw this i was like "there is no way he can stand up in OU", but man was i wrong. this thing comes in and OHKO's Gayra/Luke and Scizor with a T-Bolt/Flamethrower respectively, 3 guys i just hate to be up against (Plus now everyone uses LO SD Scizor/Luke). WoW cripples Phy. Sweepers (except the few Guts pokes) and Pain Split lets him stick around and annoy the opponent even longer

The Scout
330.png

Flygon @ Choice Band
-Naive-
82 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spe
U-Turn
Outrage
EQ
Fire Blast

this guy is so fun. U-Turn allows me to easily switch to a counter or scout, Outrage Revenge kills Mence and others nicely plus is a very reliable STAB along with EQ (which is for coverage). plus, between the 2 nothing resists them but Bronzong, Skarmory, and Shedinja. Fire Blast is handy for those Steel switch ins expecting an Outrage and a free chance to set up.
(changed back to CB after testing)

The Clean Up
453.png

Lucario @ Life Orb
-Jolly-
252 Atk / 252 Spe / 6 HP
Swords Dance
Crunch
Close Combat
Extremespeed

this guy is a crazy. after a single SD he can OHKO some of those faster, dangerous Sweepers with Extremespeed. CC gets STAB plus works wonders on Steels and others that resist Extremespeed while Crunch nails Ghosts who switch in on an Extremespeed. simply put this guy is a powerhouse after only 1 SD and has won me MANY games

Possible Problem(s)

nothing from what i can see nor tell from my testing

Solution(s)

N/A

i hope this posting of the team will prove even more helpful (and not get locked XD). thanks for the help guys!

Use HP Ice on Infernape man, you can trade and get an HP Ice one easy enough, and even if you don't, you should use HP Ice on Shoddy because, well, it's Shoddy! This is for competetive battles, and to be as competetive as you can, you should use HP Ice

i do use HP Ice on Shoddy, however my Wi-Fi keeps acting up (in fact i just got my Wi-Fi working again like 2 weeks ago) so until that is cleared up i'll probably resort to Vacuum Wave unless by some grace of god i hatch an HP Ice Chimchar with the right nature lmao

This team has a huge weakness: Scarf Heatran. It can come in on Weezing easily and OHKO every one of your pokemon with the (common) moveset of Fire Blast/Earth Power/HP Ice. Flygon and Gengar will outspeed it but they have to be extremely careful coming in - a false prediction will OHKO. You should probably have a safe switch in...

Try running Naive on Flygon and switch Fire Punch for Fire Blast. Scizor won't notice the difference but it has a massive impact on Skarmory. This lets you free up the Infernape slot. You could either use a Heatran of your own and rely on prediction to catch a Flash Fire boost, a bulky water (with a Grass attack to catch Swampert), or Latias. Latias is the best option here, as it can wall most Swampert and set up screens for your team, with Paralysis support too. A Specially Defensive Zapdos could also fill this slot, assuming Hidden Power Grass (again for that nefarious Swampert)

EDIT: You could also run Cresselia to soak up the powerful Special hits that your team has trouble taking. Draco Meteor from a Salamence will do a number to this team and having Cresselia in the wings to threaten with Ice Beam and Thunder Wave would give you a break from prediction

Small nitpick, focus blast does not OHKO metagross with focus blast (manages a 2HKO), but also that shadow ball has the same base power as focus blast cuz of stab.

Flygon wont revenge kill DDmence unless they havent used DD.

Yea, metagross or luke have to go, they both have the same role, and have the similar weaknesses, i would say keep luke, and switch metagross for a bulky zapdos with light screen, i dunno, but maybe rotom? Something like that would help

@m0nkfish: Scarftran always seems to be a problem for ANY team i create lol. pretty much my only solution is to pray Focus Blast actually hits (OHKO)... any other suggestions for this problem? i'll definitely try out Naive and Fire Blast on Flygon though. and sadly Latias and Zap are out of the question as long as my Wi-Fi is being gay

@vGX: yea, i ment 2HKO >.<. actually so far i've been able to come in on all DDmence on their DD/EQ and OHKO with Outrage... hasn't failed yet (course this doesn't mean it'll work every time). like i said, Zap is sadly out of the question, but Rotom seems interesting

@both: it seems that Agiligross and Mixape are about the only 2 members of the team that have problems now... suggestions are welcome on replacements (i hope to make the team able to actually take Spec. hits)

If you have that problems with the gaytran, why not to do what m0nkfish said? Change the fire punch and nature on flygon, and put fire blast, then infernape goes and also your iv's problems breeding lol. Change it to a latias with some form of recovery and life/SpD ev's (or both, depending of the set). It makes a good heatran counter, just fearing hp ice (not that fear but it's supper efective) then, if you predict wrong and heatran catches your switch in with the damned hidden power, you can just switch again to lucario and get a swords dance.

i will if my Wi-Fi gets to working however atm:
sadly Latias and Zap are out of the question as long as my Wi-Fi is being gay

if at all possible are there any other fixes for Tran besides Latias (after all, Mixapes spot is now free'd up after some changes)? and is there something to go over Gross that still helps the team but doesn't contribute to my Fire/Fighting/EQ weakness?

EDIT: just found out my lil bro has a Naive Heatran! O_O (though it's lv71 so some EV's need to be gotten rid of), but is there any reccomendation for a non-Scarf version that could help this team vs other Trans? i was thinking something with a Shuca Berry? (can easily take Mixapes place)

also, i'm thinking Bronzong over Gross seeing as he'll draw Fire attacks for Tran, and can provide the team with Stealth Rocks and/or something like Light Screen + Light Clay

Oh so now your flygon is naive, in that case it will revenge kill DDmences way more often. But i dont see the point to it now, i mean scarfgar shadow ball does 175 - 206 damage to neautral nature mence 0 SpD, however most run -SpD nature as to reduce the scizor threat, and not lose power on fire blast. With the damage done by gengar, and LO recoil from mences attack, lucario can come in and extremespeed which does 122-144 to mence. This would work better with rocks down to make sure he doesnt want to come in later on.

So i would change flygon to band, but its up to you

ahh i see... and he was originally Band lol. i'll do some testing and decide on ether Band or Scarf

but some questions still remain:
- Non-Scarf Tran over Mixape to help vs other Tran/Fire Pokes?
- Bronzong (dk what kind yet though. suggestions if he's viable?) over Gross to help the team with Sp. Def and aid Tran for Fire attacks?

In light of recent comments, if you want to replace Infernape then I suggest a bulky Rest/ST Gyarados. It takes Fighting, Fire and Ground (lol) like a champ and will also handle status for your team. My preferred version is Dragon Dance/Waterfall, since you can actually do something while you're asleep. If you've taken care of Vaporeon and random Electrics, it'll do some real damage.

Suggested EVs (from the Smogon page):
The RestTalk set is also quite viable with a specially defensive EV spread. A 252 HP / 80 Def / 176 SpD spread with a Careful nature makes a handy switch-in to myriads of threats, both special and physical. The special defensive EVs make Gyarados an excellent counter to Heatran and a useful check against special threats such as Shaymin. Thanks to Intimidate, even with less physical defensive investment, Gyarados can still easily switch into neutral and resisted physical attacks, making it an excellent counter for commonly mixed and physical threats such as Lucario, Infernape, and Scizor.

hmm... RestTalk Garya is interesting. i've been looking for some thing(s) that could be defensive and bring some Water/Ice/Grass to the team while still hitting with a powerful Punch

so the big question seems to be (and is still the same since i first thought up the team lol): what should the 6th slot go to? so far it's been RestTalk Kingdra, Wish Vaporeon, Mixape, possibly Heatran, and possibly RestTalk Gayra (though i do VERY much like the sound of this Garya) in that order lol. i'll def try RestTalk Garya out, thanks

however this also raises another question: is Gross still good for this team? i do love him for his Bulk, however Luke is just more deadly and they share 3 weaknesses

metagross only has two weaknesses, but he does share them with lucario.

if you decide that resttalk gyara works for you, then you might want to consider another bulky pokemon to help you take hard hits intended for lucario/gengar/flygon. weezing won't stand up to special attacks, which leaves gyarados as your only special defender. something that can take hits from both sides of the spectrum and still be able to attack would be ideal.

this description seems suited to
- swampert, able to set up SR and phaze (frankly every team should have these moves available) as well as threaten with eq/ice punch/surf/ice beam (take your pick). gengar and weezing both resist grass and will take minimal Grass Knot damage to cover his main weakness.
- snorlax, a forgotten pokemon in the new ultra-offensive metagame, able to take special hits decently and curse for the incoming physical attack
- ludicolo; you might think i'm trolling with this suggestion but he has a respectable 80hp and 100 spdef and can genuinely force a lot of switches. HOWEVER, you'll need some entry hazards for this to work, i don't think he is particularly suited to your present team.

try swampert with resttalk gyara; his immunity to electric will come in handy once flygon goes down. i do recommend giving him sr and/or roar, but he is a great asset who doesn't like toxic, so Rest may be in order here too.

you are correct, i ment 2 weaknesses, and oddly enough i just got on to ponder if Pert could go over Gross lol. as you said he compliments Gayra and can help with my team being Spec. weak overall, plus SR is something i try to get on every team (as most people do) and he can bring that to the table as well

i'm thinking the standard EQ, Ice Beam, Surf, and Stealth Rock will work fine here. after all, Weezing, Gengar, and Luke can all take a Toxic due to their immunities. also, this brings an Ice attack to the team and can help vs Dragons if Flygon is gone
