Rotom-C (1/2)

[Overview]

With access to Volt Switch, great Special Attack, and useful ability in Levitate, Rotom-C is one of the tier's best pivots. Rotom-C is a diverse Pokemon in NU, being able to act as a cleaner with Choice Scarf and a sweeper with Nasty Plot. Rotom-C's is NU's premier pivot due to many of Rotom-C's checks being easily exploited by hard-hitting wallbreakers, such as Pangoro, Guzzlord, and Salazzle, easily gaining momentum against the opponent. Access to plenty of viable utility moves, most notably Trick, sets Rotom-C apart from its competitors, being able to cripple foes and act as a general nuisance for the opposing team. Unfortunately, without a Choice Scarf, Rotom-C's Speed is lacking in comparison to other offensive Pokemon in NU, which does limit it slightly. Although Rotom-C does possess valuable resistances to Water-, Grass-, and Electric-type attacks, it cannot switch-in against many of NU's most common Pokemon; even against Steel-types, which Rotom-C resists, it cannot be brought in against the likes of Copperajah and Escavalier due to their coverage. This forces players to be aggressive with Rotom-C, occasionally having to take risks for it to successfully pay off.

[SET COMMENTS]

Volt Switch lets Rotom-C act as a pivot and a momentum grabber for its team, bringing in teammates to check the Pokemon that wall Rotom-C. Choice Scarf enables Rotom-C to become a revenge killer, outpacing all unboosted Pokemon bar Jolly Ninjask, notably revenge killing fast threats such as Salazzle and Inteleon. A Modest nature could be used instead of Timid to maximise damage output, but in the situation where Rotom-C tricks its Choice Scarf, it may end up being slower than Braviary and offensive Blastoise.

Dragon-types like Goodra and Dragalge are common switch-ins to Rotom-C, so Fairy- and Steel-types such as Sylveon, Bronzong, and Diancie work as good partners. Rotom-C also appreciates Steel-types like Copperajah and Escavalier for handling Poison- and Bug-types. Fire-type checks like Water- and Rock-types are beneficial to Rotom-C, such as Mantine, Starmie, and Aerodactyl; Gastrodon, notably, can also deal with Poison-types like Drapion. Faster Choice Scarf Pokemon like Mienshao and Flygon are troublesome, so, again, Fairy-types like Comfey and Sylveon work well, as well as walls like Mantine and Cresselia. Rotom-C's Trick can also assist Cresselia in setting up by crippling opposing Pokemon, particularly Pokemon like Toxic users such as Bronzong and Mantine, as well as Taunt Drapion. Other pivots such as Mienshao, Flygon, and Comfey pair well with this set, further adding to the momentum and putting the opposing team into a VoltTurn vortex.

[SET COMMENTS]

Nasty Plot turns Rotom-C into a threatening wallbreaker, capable of powering past NU's bulkiest Pokemon, such as Cresselia and Bronzong. Leftovers give Rotom-C passive recovery, giving it more setup opportunities due to increased health. Heavy-Duty Boots prevent Rotom-C from being continuously chipped from entry hazards, which it is prone to; however, Leftovers heal the damage from Stealth Rock and also gives Rotom-C a chance to pivot in against opponents to gradually heal back up.

Nasty Plot Rotom-C requires bulky teammates that can switch-in against faster, stronger Pokemon than itself. Fire-type checks are essential for the likes of Salazzle and Arcanine, so bulky Water-types like Gastrodon and Mantine work well. Steel-types are good defensive Pokemon that can handle Rotom-C's checks, namely Vileplume, Dragalge and Goodra. Steel-types can also sponge attacks from faster threats like Choice Scarf Tyrantrum and Celebi. Golisopod can prevent Rotom-C from sweeping with First Impression, so Bug-type resistances like Bewear and Braviary are good partners. As Rotom-C will struggle to break past Grass-types like Celebi, Decidueye and Dhelmise, answers like Guzzlord and Arcanine are encouraged. Rotom-C commonly draws in bulky foes like Vileplume, Dragalge, and Guzzlord, so wallbreakers that can capitalise on these Pokemon, such as Goodra, Golurk, and Salazzle, are ideal as teammates.

Utility sets with the moves: Leaf Storm / Volt Switch / Will-O-Wisp / Defog offer immense support to a team thanks to Will-O-Wisp crippling Flygon and the threat of Leaf Storm surprise KOing unsuspecting Pokemon, where the player assumes Rotom-C is Choice-locked. Defog is also great utility, alleviating the threat of entry hazard damage from its teammates, which is always appreciated. Choice Specs can be used over Choice Scarf to convert Rotom-C into a wallbreaker, but at the cost of being slower than many offensive Pokemon. Its lackluster bulk and poor defensive typing also hold back Choice Specs Rotom-C compared to the likes of Choice Specs Goodra. With that being said, Choice Specs can be a viable option that grants immediate power that many teams would appreciate. Magnet can be used on the Nasty Plot set to boost its Electric STABs, particularly on more offensive teams, but the utility that Leftovers and Heavy-Duty Boots offer are generally preferred.

Checks and Counters
====

**Grass-types**: NU's other Grass-types, Vileplume, Celebi, Decidueye, and Dhelmise, all sponge Rotom-C's attacks and are capable of retaliating with their own attacks.

**Dragon-types**: Goodra's immunity to Grass-type attacks thanks to Sap Sipper, resistance to Electric STABs, amazing Special Defense, and strong STABs of its own and super effective attacks make it one of Rotom-C's best counters. Dragalge and Guzzlord resist Rotom-C's STABs and can retaliate with super effective attacks; Flygon blocks Volt Switch, potentially using it as a setup opportunity, and can deal a hefty amount of damage with U-turn or Outrage; and Choice Scarf Tyrantrum outpaces non-Scarf Rotom-C and OHKOes with Head Smash after Stealth Rock.

**Faster Pokemon and Revenge Killers**: Most other Choice Scarf users are faster than Choice Scarf Rotom-C, like Mienshao, Flygon, and Drapion, and can swiftly deal with Rotom-C. Without a Choice Scarf, Rotom-C is outsped by Aerodactyl, Zoroark and Inteleon, and even with a Choice Scarf, Ninjask always outpaces Rotom-C after a Protect.

**Bug-types** Golisopod has priority with First Impression and is able to OHKO Rotom-C. Escavalier, Vikavolt, and Centiskorch are capable of taking on Rotom-C with relative ease. However, it is noteworthy that their weakness to Trick lessens their reliability as switch-ins.

**Fire-types**: Talonflame, Salazzle, and Charizard all outspeed non-Choice Scarf Rotom-C and can take it down with their STAB Fire-type attacks.

Volt Switch lets Rotom-C act as a pivot and a momentum grabber for its team, bringing in teammates to check the Pokemon that wall Rotom-C. Leaf Storm is Rotom-C's strongest STAB, dealing substantial damage to most foes. Choice Scarf enables Rotom-C to become a revenge killer, outpacing all unboosted Pokemon bar Ninjask (I don't think anyone is going maximum investment on Ninjask, so you very likely outpace it at +0.), notably revenge killing fast threats such as Salazzle and Inteleon.

Rotom-C also appreciates Steel-types like Copperajah and Escavalier for handling Poison-, Ice-, (Not a single Ice-type is tiered NU, and on the VR the highest ranked one is... C rank.) and Bug-types. Rotom-C's Trick can also assist Cresselia in setting up by crippling opposing Pokemon (any particular Trick targets that Cresselia would otherwise struggle to set up against?). (Definitely should mention other pivots; Rotom-C is really hard to successfully prevent from pivoting, and so it's super easy to lock opponents into a VoltTurn vortex.)

(A big part to this set's success is early-game pivoting when your checks come in, so mentioning wallbreakers that can take advantage of foes like Vileplume and Dragalge would be good.)

(Explicitly talk about utility sets (Leaf Storm / Volt Switch / Will-O-Wisp / Defog) and how they offer immense utility combined with a nigh-unblockable Volt Switch because of Leaf Storm/Will-O-Wisp threat. I think the last sentence in this section severely undersells their efficacy.) Choice Specs can be used over Choice Scarf to convert Rotom-C into a wallbreaker, but at the cost of being slower than many offensive Pokemon. Utility moves such as Defog and Will-O-Wisp can be used over Thunderbolt, Nasty Plot, or Trick if the team requires it, but the moves in the sets above generally outclass Defog and Will-O-Wisp. (I think you could get away with mentioning itemless on Nasty Plot sets too just for making Golurk and Dhelmise very sad.)

Checks and Counters
====

**Poison-types**: Vileplume and Dragalge resist both of Rotom-C's STABs, acting as sponges to its attacks. Drapion and Salazzle can be dealt with if Rotom-C is faster, but their Poison-type attacks, resistance to Leaf Storm, and ability to run Choice Scarf themselves and outpace Rotom-C make them troublesome.

**Faster Pokemon and Revenge Killers**: Most other Choice Scarf users are faster than Choice Scarf Rotom-C, like Mienshao, Flygon, and Drapion, and can swiftly deal with Rotom-C. Without a Choice Scarf, Rotom-C is outsped by Aerodactyl, Zoroark and Inteleon, and even with a Choice Scarf, Ninjask outpaces Rotom-C (after one Protect).

**Bug-types** Golisopod has priority with First Impression and is able to OHKO Rotom-C. Escavalier, Vikavolt, and Centiskortch Centiskorch are capable of taking on Rotom-C with relative ease. (Note that they're pretty terrible switch-ins, though, given weakness to Trick.)

**Fire-types**: Talonflame, Salazzle, and Charizard all outspeed non-Choice Scarf Rotom-C and can take it down with their STAB Fire-type attacks.

**Grass-types**: NU's other Grass-types, Vileplume, Celebi, Decidueye, and Dhelmise, all sponge Rotom-C's attacks and are capable of retaliating with their own attacks.

**Dragon-types**: Goodra's immunity to Grass-type attacks thanks to Sap Sipper, resistance to Electric STABs, amazing Special Defense, and strong STABs of its own and super-effective attacks make it one of Rotom-C's best counters. Dragalge, Guzzlord, Flygon, and Tyrantrum are all able of dealing with Rotom-C by resisting its STABs, having an Electric immunity, and being faster. (Dragalge, Guzzlord, and even certain Tyrantrum are never faster than Rotom-C. This last sentence needs some rewording to accurately convey what you mean here.)

- Grass-types
- Dragon-types
- Faster Pokemon
- Bug-types

(This is a better ordering imo; you cover all of the Poison-types in other sections as is, so it feels pointless to give them their own section. I'm unsure on how great of an answer Fire-types are to Rotom-C given how common Choice Scarf is in comparison to the other sets, but
feel free to keep that section if you wish.)
