[Overview]

The combination of STAB Volt Switch and Leaf Storm prevents almost anything from switching into Rotom-C, making it one of the tier's best pivots. Special walls that soak up these attacks are easily exploited by hard-hitting wallbreakers such as Machamp and Guzzlord that Rotom-C brings in with Volt Switch. Additionally, Rotom-C is a diverse Pokemon in NU, being able to clean with Choice Scarf or support teams with Defog. Access to plenty of viable utility moves, most notably Trick and Will-O-Wisp, sets Rotom-C apart from its competitors, being able to cripple foes and act as a general nuisance for the opposing team. Unfortunately, Rotom-C's Speed is lacking in comparison to other offensive Pokemon like Salazzle and Starmie, and, even with a Choice Scarf, it's too slow to revenge kill Shell Smash Blastoise and +1 Flygon. Although Rotom-C possesses valuable resistances, it cannot switch in against many of NU's most common Pokemon: even against many Steel-types, including the likes of Copperajah and Escavalier, due to their coverage.

Volt Switch lets Rotom-C act as a pivot and momentum grabber for its team, bringing in teammates to check the Pokemon that wall it. Choice Scarf enables Rotom-C to become a revenge killer, outpacing all unboosted Pokemon bar Jolly Ninjask and notably revenge killing fast threats such as Starmie and Inteleon. A Modest nature could be used instead of Timid to maximize damage output, but if Rotom-C loses its Choice Scarf, it may end up being slower than Braviary.

Physical wallbreakers like Machamp and Sirfetch'd punish special walls like Copperajah and Dhelmise attempting to soak up Volt Switch. Dragon-types like Goodra and Dragalge are also common switch-ins to Rotom-C, so Fairy- and Steel-types such as Sylveon, Diancie, and Bronzong work as good partners. Rotom-C also appreciates Steel-types like Copperajah and Escavalier for handling Poison- and Bug-type attacks. To punish Ninjask and Choice Scarf Flygon when they use U-turn on Rotom-C, try pairing it with Flame Body Talonflame. Additional Fire-type checks like Water- and Rock-types are beneficial to Rotom-C, such as Mantine, Starmie, and Aerodactyl. Other pivots such as Flygon, Dragalge, and Arcanine pair well with this set, further adding to the momentum and putting the opposing team into a VoltTurn vortex.

Rotom-C makes a decent Defogger thanks to its threatening coverage versus entry hazard setters like Diancie and Mudsdale. Even Stealth Rock users like Copperajah and Bronzong that tank Rotom-C's attacks still have to worry about Will-O-Wisp and Volt Switch. Leftovers heals the damage from Stealth Rock and Scald burns, while Heavy-Duty Boots is a better defense against Stealth Rock when constantly pivoting.

Fire-type checks are essential for the likes of Salazzle and Arcanine, so bulky Water-types like Vaporeon and Starmie work well. Steel-types are good defensive Pokemon that can handle Rotom-C's checks, namely Vileplume, Dragalge, and Goodra. Wallbreakers that can capitalize on these defensive checks, such as Sirfetch'd, Golurk, and Salazzle, are also ideal as teammates. Rotom-C is forced out from U-turn and First Impression from Ninjask and Sirfetch’d, so Bug-type checks like Garbodor and Braviary are good partners. Heal Bell from Sylveon and Diancie supports Rotom-C when switching into defensive Water-types like Mantine and Vaporeon, and in return it's likely to burn and wear down Steel-types like Copperajah and Escavalier.

Nasty Plot over Defog offers wallbreaking potential for when the team already has a Defogger or spinner. Choice Specs also can be used to convert Rotom-C into a wallbreaker, but these sets come at the cost of being slower than many offensive Pokemon. Magnet can be used on more offensive teams, but the utility that Leftovers and Heavy-Duty Boots offer is generally preferred.

Checks and Counters
====

**Grass-types**: NU's other Grass-types—Vileplume, Decidueye, Dhelmise, and Celebi—all sponge Rotom-C's attacks and are capable of retaliating with their own attacks. However, Trick and Volt Switch stop them from being safe switch-ins when Rotom-C still has supportive teammates to punish these checks.

**Dragon-types**: Dragalge, Guzzlord, and Goodra resist Rotom-C's STAB attacks and can retaliate with super effective attacks. Flygon blocks Volt Switch, potentially using it as a setup opportunity, and can deal a hefty amount of damage with a faster U-turn or Outrage.

**Steel-types**: Bulky Steel-types like Copperajah, Bronzong, and Escavalier are good switch-ins to Rotom-C's attacks and prevent it from switching in with strong coverage or Toxic. They may still have a hard time dealing with the effects of Volt Switch, Trick, and Will-O-Wisp if Rotom-C has a safe switch in.

**Revenge Killers**: Choice Scarf Rotom-C has a limited amount of revenge killers outside of Ninjask, Choice Scarf Flygon, and First Impression Sirfetch'd. Defog Rotom-C worries about more faster attackers like Salazzle and Drapion, and both sets are vulnerable to situational revenge killers after Leaf Storm's Special Attack drop.

Rotom-C makes a decent Defogger thanks to its threatening coverage versus entry hazard setters like Diancie, Golisopod, and Mudsdale.
