[OVERVIEW]

Rotom-H's combination of typing, utility, and offensive prowess has made it one of the most applicable Pokemon in OU. Its great defensive typing and STAB combination allow it to check prominent Pokemon such as Clefable, Corviknight, and Aegislash. Levitate is an incredibly useful ability, patching up Rotom-H's 4x weakness to Ground-type moves, preventing Pokemon like Hippowdon from touching it while granting protection from Dugtrio's Arena Trap. Will-O-Wisp and Thunder Wave are both flagship utility options, both of which can threaten Rotom-H's common switch-ins. Rotom-H's access to Nasty Plot allows it to greatly pressure defensive Pokemon such as Clefable, Toxapex, and Mandibuzz. Unfortunately, Rotom-H is usually heavily reliant on Heavy-Duty Boots to protect itself from Stealth Rock, so it has to be careful around common Knock Off users such as Mandibuzz and Ferrothorn. Furthermore, Rotom-H can be taken advantage of by common offensive threats such as Substitute Dragapult, Mold Breaker Excadrill, and Hydreigon. It also struggles to do much to Seismitoad, one of the most common defensive Pokemon. Lastly, a lack of reliable recovery prevents Rotom-H from being able to consistently check the aforementioned Pokemon, as it is very vulnerable to being chipped as well as crippled by Toxic.

Set Description
========

Nasty Plot allows Rotom-H to function as a wallbreaker, being able to effectively set up on Pokemon such as Clefable, Sylveon, and Corviknight. It also helps offset the Special Attack drops from Overheat, allowing for continued use. Overheat is Rotom-H's hardest hitting move, dealing good damage to neutral targets as well as frying Ferrothorn, Aegislash, and Rotom-C. Volt Switch is great for maintaining offensive momentum against switch-ins while providing Rotom-H with an Electric-type STAB move to use against Mandibuzz, Toxapex, and other bulky Water-types. Thunder Wave is useful for crippling common switch-ins such as Dragapult and Hydreigon. Will-O-Wisp cripples Seismitoad, Rotom-H's most common form of defensive counterplay, as well physical attackers such as Tyranitar, Dracozolt, and Dracovish. Discharge is also an option as a more consistent Electric-type STAB move that comes with a high paralysis chance while not forcing Rotom-H out. Heavy-Duty Boots is required to protect Rotom-H from Stealth Rock. Maximum Speed investment and a Timid nature are important for outspeeding everything up to Kommo-o. Maximum HP investment enables Rotom-H to check what it needs to more effectively, as well as easing setup.

Usage Tips
========

Rotom-H is best used as an offensive pivot, as it is able to soft check a wide variety of Pokemon while maintaining momentum through Volt Switch, status, and its breaking capabilities. One should avoid repeatedly switching Rotom-H into strong attacks. While it is capable of switching into Pokemon like Clefable, it is very prone to being worn down, especially against Life Orb variants. Special Attack drops from Moonblast are also troublesome and often force Rotom-H to use Nasty Plot more. It's best to wait for a safer opportunity to bring Rotom-H in, such as on predicted healing moves, when the foe uses Defog, or with a slow U-turn. A liberal use of Volt Switch and status moves is recommended when Rotom-H's checks are still present to avoid allowing them to freely switch in because aside from Seismitoad and Gastrodon, most of Rotom-H's switch-ins have to be wary of these moves. Be careful around Pokemon that commonly carry Knock Off, such as Mandibuzz and Ferrothorn, as Rotom-H's Stealth Rock weakness can greatly impede its ability to come in. Only use Nasty Plot in the face of Pokemon that Rotom-H can comfortably check, such as defensive Clefable, Corviknight, and Ferrothorn lacking Knock Off. Otherwise, it risks being heavily chipped or forced out.

Team Options
========

Fairy-types such as Clefable and Sylveon are able to check Hydreigon, Dragapult, and Kommo-o, all of which are able to offensively pressure Rotom-H thanks to their resistances. They are also able to pass Wishes to Rotom-H, which helps alleviate its lack of reliable recovery. Seismitoad is one of the best teammates available for its immunity to Water-types moves, most notably Dracovish's Fishious Rend. Seismitoad appreciates Rotom-H's ability to pressure Rotom-C and Ferrothorn. Other bulky Water-types such as Toxapex and Gastrodon work well too. Ferrothorn is also a great teammate, as it is one of the best Seismitoad switch-ins in the tier. Ferrothorn is able to set up Spikes, which greatly improves Rotom-H's ability to wallbreak. Pairing Rotom-H with powerful wallbreakers such as Nasty Plot Hydreigon, Aegislash, and Conkeldurr works well, as they appreciate Rotom-H's ability to get them in safely with Volt Switch. Rotom-H is also able to help them pressure defensive cores. Corviknight, Mandibuzz, and Dragapult are able to form VoltTurn cores with Rotom-H, allowing them to maintain consistent offensive momentum while bringing each other in safely. Dragapult has the added benefit of being able to check Hydreigon, while Corviknight is able to switch into Mold Breaker Excadrill quite comfortably. Mandibuzz is also a decent switch-in to Choice Specs Dragapult.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Trick is a very useful move for its ability to cripple many of Rotom-H's defensive switch-ins with different items. Choice Scarf Rotom-H can cripple defensive Pokemon such as Seismitoad, Gastrodon, and Clefable. The added Speed lets it revenge kill Excadrill and neuter Pokemon like Dragapult with a fast Thunder Wave. Rotom-H can also give Seismitoad and Gastrodon a Ring Target so they are no longer immune to Volt Switch. However, it should be noted that both Trick sets are very vulnerable to Stealth Rock due to the lack of Heavy-Duty Boots. Leftovers + Protect can be used to improve Rotom-H's longevity, although this comes at the cost of needing to remove entry hazards more consistently.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Seismitoad and Gastrodon**: Both of these Pokemon resist Overheat and are immune to Volt Switch. While Seismitoad doesn't appreciate being burned, it needs to be heavily chipped in order for Rotom-H to pose as much of a threat.

**Dragon-types**: Dragapult, Hydreigon, and Kommo-o all resist both of Rotom-H's STAB moves and are able to force it out or set up in front of it; however, they must be wary of Thunder Wave.

**Revenge Killers**: Faster Pokemon such as Mold Breaker Excadrill, Obstagoon, and Choice Specs Gengar are able to threaten Rotom-H out with their strong moves or just outright OHKO it.

  • Rotom-H's combination of typing, utility, and offensive prowess has made it one of the most spashable Pokemon in OU.
  • Its great defensive typing and STAB combo allows Rotom-H to check prominent Pokemon, such as Clefable, Corviknight, and Aegislash.
  • Levitate is incredibly useful for patching up its 4x weakness to Ground-type moves, preventing Pokemon like Hippowdon from touching it, and free protection from Dugtrio's Arena Trap.
  • Will-O-Wisp and Thunder Wave are both flagship utility options, both of which can be tailored to fit your team's needs. I don't think this is exactly accurate because you can't tailor the moves themselves. I think you can be more specific and just say that they give Rotom-H the option to cripple most of its checks.
  • Nasty Plot can greatly pressure defensive Pokemon, such as Clefable, Toxapex, and Mandibuzz.
  • Rotom-H is heavily reliant on Heavy-Duty Boots to protect itself from Stealth Rock, so it has to be careful around common Knock Off users such as Mandibuzz and Ferrothorn.
  • Can be taken advantage of by common offensive threats such as Sub Dragapult, Mold Breaker Excadrill, and Hydreigon. Also has issues doing much to Seismitoad, one of the most commonly used defensive Pokemon. Rotom-H can overwhelm Seismitoad pretty well over time so maybe you can specify that it specifically struggles with Seismitoad on the short-term.
  • Lack of reliable recovery prevents it from being able to consistently check what it needs to.

  • Choice Scarf Rotom-H is a decent revenge killer that is also able to potentially cripple defensive Pokemon such as Seismitoad with Trick.
  • Trick + Ring Target can lure Seismitoad/Gastrodon so they are no longer immune to Volt Switch.
  • Leftovers + Protect can be used to improve Rotom-H's longevity, although this comes at the cost of absolutely needing hazard removal. You absolutely need hazard removal anyways. Saying that you'll consistently need to remove hazards would get the point across more accurately.

Rotom-H is heavily reliant on Heavy-Duty Boots to protect itself from Stealth Rock, so it has to be careful around common Knock Off users such as Mandibuzz and Ferrothorn.
i would also point out how it can't take meaningless chip or toxics or things will go downhill fast, as thats a big downside of no leftovers. i would also probably say usually heavily reliant personally

While it is capable of switching into Pokemon like Clefable, it is very prone to being worn down, especially against Life Orb variants.
it may be worth mentioning moonblast drops here, because this happens semi frequently and is really troublesome for having rotom being used to counteract clef

Team Options

fairies first imo

Corviknight, Mandibuzz, and Dragapult are able to
i would also mention mandi helps with specs pult and corv helps to a lesser extent, cuz big switchin for rotom

  • Choice Scarf Rotom-H is a decent revenge killer that is also able to potentially cripple defensive Pokemon such as Seismitoad with Trick.
my personal opinion is scarf rotom isnt rly a revenge killer but scarf is basically The Crippler. trick is rly good unless you're facing scarf hydreigon and always does something, and also twave is good for emergencies where trick doesnt help + is useful post trick. i think calling it a revenge killer is a bit of a stretch because it basically just... annoys things. i would also point out lack of boots espc post trick can be troubling (for this and ring target)

Will-O-Wisp can cripple physical attackers such as Tyranitar, Dracozolt, and Dracovish, as well as annoying Seismitoad.
I‘d mention first that it heavily cripples Seismitoad, one the its most common defensive answers, and then that it allows it to threaten physical attackers that it can‘t take out with boosted attacks

========

Nasty Plot allows Rotom-H to function as a wallbreaker, being able to effectively set up on Pokemon such as Clefable, Sylveon, and Corviknight. It also helps offset the Special Attack drops from Overheat, allowing for continued use. Overheat is Rotom-H's hardest-hitting (RH) move, dealing good damage to neutral targets as well as frying Ferrothorn, Aegislash, and Rotom-C. Discharge is also an option as a more consistent Electric-type STAB move that comes with a high paralysis chance (RC) (gp mark you accidentally left in) while not forcing Rotom-H out. Heavy-Duty Boots are is required to protect Rotom-H from Stealth Rock. Maximum Speed investment and a Timid nature are important for outspeeding everything up to Kommo-o. Max Maximum HP investment is so enables Rotom-H is able (more smooth reading) to check what it needs to more effectively, as well as easing setup.

Usage Tips
========

It's best to wait for a safer opportunities opportunity to bring Rotom-H in, such as on predicted healing moves, when the foe uses Defog, or with a slow U-turn. A liberal use of Volt Switch and status moves is recommended when Rotom-H's checks are still present to avoid allowing them to freely switch in, (RC) because aside from Seismitoad and Gastrodon, most of Rotom-H's switch-ins have to be wary of these moves.

========

Other Options
=============

It However, it (optional) should be noted that both Trick sets are very vulnerable to Stealth Rock due to the lack of Heavy-Duty Boots. Leftovers + Protect can be used to improve Rotom-H's longevity, although this comes at the cost of needing to remove entry hazards more consistently.

Checks and Counters
===================
