Pros and Cons
+ Amazing Defensive Profile: Rotom-Heat has a solid Fire/Electric typing and the Levitate ability which gives it a handful of 8 resistances including common offensive types such as Fire, Electric, Ice, Flying and Fairy; as well as a very important Ground immunity, making it a great defensive piece of any team. It's only weak to 2 types being Water and Rock.
+ Stack of Utility Moves: Rotom-Heat's movepool includes some of the best utility moves in the game. It has access to both Reflect and Light Screen which it can use to help the setup sweepers on its team. Will-o-Wisp and Thunder Wave are two of the best status moves as inflicting burn or paralysis on opposing threats is very beneficial for the entire team, and it also makes Rotom very unpredictable as you never know which of these two it's running until the damage is done. Furthermore, Pain Split is a great recovery move on a low HP Pokémon such as Rotom gives it a big advantage as it heals significantly more against high and full HP Pokémon. Trick is a great move on Choice Scarf sets to cripple bulky or stall Pokemon.
+ Versatility: Great defensive profile, a STAB pivot move, huge stack of utility moves and a good setup move makes Rotom-Heat a very versatile Pokémon and its possible sets very flexible. It usually almost always runs Overheat and Volt Switch, but you can never know what it's hiding in its last two moveslots. There are also some Nasty Plot sets without Volt Switch making it even more unpredictable. It can also utilise some of the available items pretty well, such as Choice Scarf, Sitrus Berry, Leftovers and Passho Berry.
- Low Base Stats: Just as every other Rotom form, Rotom-Heat also suffers with low-mid base stats in everything. Its base HP is only 50 which means it's easy to OHKO or 2HKO with strong neutral attacks. Its base Speed stat of 86 is decent but not great as it gets outsped by almost any offensive threat. Even if its highest stat being Special Attack is only 107, which requires high EV investment or Modest Nature to hit hard. It shares a good 105 base Defense & Special Defense but its bulk is held back by its low HP and one of its defenses need to be invested heavily in to make it live strong hits and avoid getting 2HKO'd by almost any strong neutral STAB attack. Rotom-Heat's bulk feels not as bad despite its low HP and mid Defense stats because of its good defensive profile and utility moves like Will-o-Wisp and Pain Split, but sometimes these tools cannot save it from being underwhelming.
- Lack of Reliable Fire STAB: Rotom-Heat has access to only one Fire type move being Overheat, which is a very strong 130 base power STAB attack but the problem comes with its drawback of dropping its special attack by 2 stages upon each use. Although it can boost back its special attack with Nasty Plot, it's hard to fit a setup move in a defensive set, which makes Rotom-Heat very easy to bait and cripple.
- Weakness to Stealth Rock: In a metagame such as Champions, being weak to rocks is a major disadvantage, especially for a defensive pivot. There's a currently no Heavy-Duty Boots in the format and Rotom-Heat being mainly used a defensive volt switch pivot, rocks give it a very hard time doing its job properly and makes it dependent on hazard control.

Possible Sets
Choice Scarf
Rotom-Heat @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
Level: 50
EVs: 2 HP / 32 SpA / 32 Spe
Timid Nature
- Trick
- Will-O-Wisp / Pain Split / Thunder Wave
- Overheat
- Volt Switch
Choice Scarf is arguably the best Rotom-Heat set in the format. 32 Speed EVs Timid Nature Scarf Rotom outspeeds any non-boosted Pokémon in the format or other faster scarfers. It also outspeeds other common scarfers such as Hisuian Samurott and Mamoswine. It can work as both an offensive and defensive piece in a team.
Offensively, its fast STAB Overheats can KO many threats and it can volt switch out vs Fire resists. Defensively, its one of the fastest Will-o-Wisp users in the format, even faster than Dragapult and can burn offensive threats such as Garchomp and Mega Lopunny. It can Trick its Scarf to limit bulky walls like Toxapex, Clefable and Galarian Slowking.
Defensive
Rotom-Heat @ Sitrus Berry / Leftovers / Passho Berry
Ability: Levitate
Level: 50
EVs: 32 HP / 32 Def / 2 SpD
OR
EVs: 32 HP / 2 Def / 32 SpD
Bold / Calm Nature
- Overheat
- Volt Switch
- Pain Split / Thunder Wave
- Will-O-Wisp
Defensive Rotom-Heat is a very flexible set as it can utilise a number of items, moves and even different EV spreads and natures. Physically defensive sets can check threats such as Garchomp, Sand Rush Excadrill, Kingambit and Dragonite. Specially defensive sets can check other threats such as Mega Delphox, Mega Floette, Mega Froslass and Volcarona (with Thunder Wave). It also hard checks stuff such as Scizor, Mega Scizor and Mega Meganium despite its EV spread. The Passho Berry helps it survive opposing Water type attacks and safely volt switch out against them.
Nasty Plot
Rotom-Heat @ Sitrus Berry / Passho Berry
Ability: Levitate
Level: 50
EVs: 32 HP / 2 SpA / 32 Spe
OR
EVs: 2 HP / 32 SpA / 32 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Overheat
- Thunderbolt
- Pain Split
Nasty Plot Rotom-Heat is an underrated set which is not very common but can provide solid results. It makes use of Rotom's solid STABs which can hit every single type for atleast neutral damage except Dragon Types. A +2 Overheat deals massive amounts of damage to any neutral target and it can maintain its longevity throughout the match with Pain Split.

Potential Teammates
Bulky Water Resists: Bulky Pokémon which resist Water type attacks are great teammates for Rotom-Heat as they can effortlessly switch into the Water type as well as Rock type attacks which Rotom is weak to.
Hazard Control: Hazard Control is very important alongside Rotom-Heat as it appreciates having not to switch into rocks and sacrifice 25% of its HP. No matter what set Rotom-Heat uses, Stealth Rocks are always going to be problematic for it.
Breakers and Setup Sweepers: Rotom-Heat with its essential tools such as Will-o-Wisp, Thunder Wave and pivot move Volt Switch makes it a great enabler for many powerful breakers and setup sweepers in the format.
U-Turn Pivots: Pairing Rotom-Heat with U-Turn users creates the "Volt-Turn" core in your team. This is the core which utilizes the two most common pivot moves, U-Turn and Volt Switch to make a pivoting duo/trio which can chip opposing pokemon, get in your own threats safely or scout for switches while maintaining your momentum in the game.

Checks and Counters
Rock Types: Rock Types are great checks to Rotom-Heat as unlike Water types, they not only resist its Fire STAB but are also not weak to its Electric STAB, making them very reliable switchins which can also OHKO Rotom with their STABs.
Water-type Priority Attacks: As water types are weak to Rotom-Heat's Electric STAB, priority water type attacks such as Aqua Jet and Jet Punch are great options to make sure you can KO Rotom-Heat before it can attack, especially in the case of Choice Scarf Rotom-Heats.
Excadrill: Mold Breaker Excadrill is the only ground type which can hit Rotom-Heat with 4x super-effective STAB Earthquake. Although it is weak to Rotom's Overheat and Will-o-Wisp, it is also faster and is able to OHKO Rotom, unless in the case of face to face with Scarf Rotom-Heat. It can also run items such as Occa Berry or Lum Berry to properly counter Rotom-Heat.
Lum Berry and Substitute: Every Rotom-Wash has either Will-o-Wisp, Thunder Wave or both in it's moveslot. Having the means to block these two moves and catch Rotom off-guard gives a big advantage to get the chance to KO it while it wastes a turn trying to status your Pokémon. Substitute can also waste an incoming Overheat, making rotom lower its own SpAtk while only sacrificing 25% of your HP.

The Champions meta has been both kind and cruel to Rotom-Heat in different ways. The removal of Heavy-Duty Boots was a big loss for Rotom-Heat, making it even more vulnerable to Stealth Rocks. But its unique typing and ability with a large number of resistances has made it a very important defensive piece in the format as it checks many of the newly introduced popular Mega Evolutions as well as common metagame threats. The versatility and flexibility of Rotom's movepool and overall sets makes it a solid Pokémon as a whole and an unpredictable one as well.
