Rotom-W [QC 0/3]

Status
Not open for further replies.
[OVERVIEW]

* Rotom-W is a good hazard remover in the CAP metagame because it matches up well against common entry hazard setters like Heatran and Landorus-T.
* It has a solid typing with a resistance to Flying, allowing it to deal with Tornadus-T relatively well. In addition, it's immune to Ground, making it a solid check to Pokemon like Equilibra, Mega Swampert, and Sand Rush Excadrill while simultaneously making it harder to wear down thanks to the added immunity to Spikes.
* In addition to all this, Rotom-W is a really good momentum generator with Volt Switch because it discourages Ground-types from blocking it, courtesy of Hydro Pump and Will-O-Wisp.
* However, it's quickly worn down by status ailments like poison and burn as well as continually switching into Pokemon like Heatran and Tornadus-T throughout the match because of its mediocre recovery options. It's also susceptible to Knock Off because it often relies on a Wiki Berry to recover health.
* Lastly, it can be exploited by good Pokemon like Pajantom and Necturna thanks to their typing. Pajantom is also immune Will-O-Wisp.

evs: 252 HP / 136 Def / 120 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

* Pain Split is Rotom-W's best form of recovery, allowing it to check Flying-, Fire-, and Ground-types a lot more comfortably throughout a match.
* Will-O-Wisp can be run to cripple Pokemon such as Ferrothorn and Necturna.
* If Rotom-W is paired up with Tornadus-T, Will-O-Wisp can be run instead of Defog.

Set Details
========

* The given EV spread allows Rotom-W to live a boosted Supersonic Skystrike from Landorus-T, while the rest of the EVs alongside a Calm nature allow Rotom-W to check Pokemon such as Heatran better.
* A Wiki Berry is useful because it lets Rotom-W take more hits from Pokemon like Heatran, Landorus-T, and Choice Scarf Volkraken in a pinch.
* Generally speaking, Rotom-W will get more out of Wiki Berry than Leftovers, as the burst healing is much more useful when considering Rotom-W's overall bulk and ability to repeatedly take hits.
* Additionally, Rotom-W will want to use Volt Switch a lot throughout battles, so it can't really make the most of Leftovers.

Usage Tips
========

* For the majority of the match, Rotom-W should use its useful resistances and immunities to switch into Flying- and Ground-type Pokemon like Tornadus-T, Landorus-T, and Equilibra.
* It will often want to use Volt Switch on forced switches against Pokemon like Heatran and Landorus-T because it's rather passive and thus easy to take advantage of otherwise. It should be noted that Ground-types may want to switch into Rotom-W to block Volt Switch, so consider using Hydro Pump or Will-O-Wisp to punish that.
* If Rotom-W is significantly weakened, you should consider using Pain Split instead of Volt Switch to stay healthy.
* It's pretty safe to use Will-O-Wisp if Grass-types like Ferrothorn and Necturna are expected to switch in because they are really bothered by getting burned.
* Additionally, they are slower than Rotom-W, so not using Volt Switch as they come in will not get punished. Rotom-W often wants to use Defog to keep entry hazards off the field, but it's quickly worn down because of its lack of reliable recovery, so consider the risk and reward of constantly switching into Pokemon like Heatran, Landorus-T, and Tornadus-T with Rotom-W.

Team Options
========

* Thanks to its slow Volt Switch, Rotom-W pairs up incredibly well with strong wallbreakers like Tapu Lele, Mega Gallade, and Mega Mawile.
* Rotom-W pairs particularly well with Pokemon like Tornadus-T and Heatran, because they're capable of dealing with the myriad of annoying Grass-types. Tornadus-T can also form an incredibly potent VoltTurn core with Rotom-W.
* Grass-types such as Necturna, Tangrowth, Kartana, and Jumbao benefit from Rotom-W's ability to continually check Flying- and Fire-types like Tornadus-T, Landorus-T, and Heatran. Jumbao can also provide Wish support for Rotom-W, which is incredibly useful.
* Pursuit trappers like Mega Tyranitar and Weavile are also good teammates because they can take advantage of Pokemon that Rotom-W commonly baits in, such as Pajantom and Mega Latias.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

* Thunder Wave can be used instead of Will-O-Wisp to significantly cripple Pokemon like Mega Alakazam and Tapu Lele, but being incapable of healing with Pain Split or crippling Pokemon like Ferrothorn and Mega Garchomp with a burn is often undesirable.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Dragon-types**: Dragon-types like Pajantom and Mega Latias aren't bothered by Will-O-Wisp, resist Volt Switch and Hydro Pump, and can quickly wear Rotom-W down. They can be taken advantage of with Volt Switch and a Pursuit trapper, though, so they must be wary.

**Grass-types**: Grass-type Pokemon resist Rotom-W's STAB attacks and tend to not really care about anything Rotom-W can throw at them. Although Tangrowth is often annoyed by a burn, Jumbao doesn't care too much about getting burned by Will-O-Wisp, and they can both retaliate with strong STAB attacks. Other Grass-types like Ferrothorn, Necturna, and Kartana can also pressure Rotom-W but fear getting burned.

**Residual Damage**: Because of Rotom-W's mediocre recovery options, it's quickly worn down by Pokemon that it wants to constantly check, such as Heatran and Tornadus-T. This is especially true against Toxic and Knock Off variants of Heatran, Equilibra, and Tornadus-T.

**Strong Wallbreakers**: Pokemon such as Tapu Lele, Weavile, and Tapu Koko can quickly overwhelm Rotom-W with their strong moves.

[OVERVIEW]

* Rotom-W is one of the best Defoggers in the CAP metagame because it matches up well against common hazard setters like Heatran, Landorus-T, Garchomp, and Greninja.
* To add onto that, it discourages common Rock-type Stealth Rock setters like Mega Tyranitar, Mega Crucibelle, and Mega Diancie from just switching in like they can use Tornadus-T for opportunities to switch in, thanks to Hydro Pump. (Add that the former two are also crippled by burns)
* It has a solid typing with a resistance to Flying, allowing it to deal with Tornadus-T relatively well. (Play up its other resistances and its very useful immunity to Ground type moves with Levitate)
* However, it's quickly worn down by status ailments like poison and burn as well as continually switching into Pokemon like Heatran and Tornadus-T throughout the match, because of its mediocre recovery options.
(Mention that it is crippled by Knock Off and can be worn down by repeated strong attacks thanks to its only decent bulk)
* Lastly, it can be exploited by common Pokemon like Pajantom and Necturna. (Explain How these Pokemon take advantage of Rotom-Wash)

Moves
========

* Thanks to its good matchup against common hazard setters, Rotom-W is a particularly good Defogger. (This was already stated in introduction. Give the reasons why)
* Will-O-Wisp is important for its ability to cripple Pokemon like Ferrothorn, Necturna, and Garchomp.
* Alternatively, Pain Split is Rotom-W's most consistent form of recovery, allowing it to check Flying-, Fire-, and Ground-types a lot more comfortable throughout a match. However, not being able to cripple Pokemon like Ferrothorn, Necturna, and Garchomp is often undesirable.
* It can be run instead of Defog if Rotom-W is paired up with Tornadus-T.

Set Details
========

* 56 Speed EVs allow Rotom-W to outspeed defensive Landorus-T and Adamant Mega Tyranitar.
* Wiki Berry lets Rotom-W take more repeated hits from Pokemon like Heatran, Landorus-T, and Choice Scarf Volkraken. Generally speaking, Rotom-W will get more out of Wiki Berry than Leftovers, because the burst healing is much more useful when considering Rotom-W's overall bulk and ability to repeatedly take hits.

Usage Tips
========

* Rotom-W will often want to use Volt Switch on switches that it forces against Pokemon like Heatran and Landorus-T, because it's rather passive and thus easy to take advantage of otherwise. (Mention how it also threatens Volt Switch absorbers from switching in thanks to STAB Hydro Pump and a potential burn)
(Mention how it exploits its resistances and immunities to safely switch in here)

* It's pretty safe to use Will-O-Wisp if Grass-types like Ferrothorn and Necturna are expected to switch in because they are really bothered by getting burned. Additionally, they are slower than Rotom-W, so not directly using Volt Switch will not get punished.
* Rotom-W often wants to use Defog to keep off hazards, but it's quickly worn down because of its lack of reliable recovery, so consider the risk and reward of constantly switching into Pokemon like Heatran, Landorus-T, and Tornadus-T with Rotom-W.
(Mention Pain Split)
* As a general rule of thumb, Rotom-W shouldn't switch into strong wallbreakers in general (highlight any specific wallbreakers that Rotom-Wash must watch out for), because it's bulk is rather average and doing this will only contribute to it getting worn down faster.

Team Options
========

* Thanks to its slow Volt Switch, Rotom-W pairs up incredibly well with strong wallbreakers like Tapu Lele, Mega Medicham, and Mega Mawile.
* Rotom-W pairs particularly well with Tornadus-T, because it's capable of dealing with the myriad of annoying Grass-types and also formes an incredibly potent VoltTurn core with Rotom-W.
(Mention Pokemon that can provide Wish support due to its sometimes unreliable options to heal)
* Grass-types such as Necturna, Tangrowth, Kartana, and Jumbao benefit from Rotom-W's ability to continually check Flying- and Fire-types like Tornadus-T, Landorus-T, and Heatran.

Rotom-W should use its useful resistances and immunities to switch into Flying- and Ground-type Pokemon like Tornadus-T, Landorus-T, and Smokomodo. It should be noted that Ground-types may want to switch into Rotom-W to block Volt Switch, so consider using Hydro Pump and Will-O-Wisp too to prevent that (just leaving that at "too" makes it seem like you're simply telling the user "hey, don't only use Volt Switch", which is very common knowledge). If Rotom-W is significantly weakened, it should consider using Pain Split instead of Volt Switch to stay healthy. **Grass-types**: Grass-type Pokemon resist Rotom-W's STAB attacks and (? is that what you meant to put here?) tend to not really care about anything Rotom-W can throw at them. Although Tangrowth is often annoyed by a burn while ,(AC) Jumbao doesn't care too much about getting burned by Will-O-Wisp, and they can both retaliate with strong STAB attacks. Other Grass-types like Ferrothorn, Necturna, and Kartana can also pressure Rotom-W but fear getting burned.

**Residual Damage**: Because of Rotom-W's mediocre recovery options, it's quickly worn down by Pokemon that it wants to constantly check, like such as Heatran and Tornadus-T. This is especially true against Toxic and Knock Off variants of Heatran and Tornadus-T,(AC) respectively.

**Strong Wallbreakers**: Pokemon such as Tapu Lele, Magearna, Mega Alakazam, and Tapu Koko can quickly overwhelm Rotom-W with their strong moves.
