[OVERVIEW]
Rotom-W has a great Electric / Water typing that is made even greater when paired with Levitate, which makes its Electric typing far less exploitable. Levitate lets Rotom-W handle Ground-types like Gliscor and Mamoswine with its STAB Hydro Pump and act as one of the best Flying-resistant Pokemon to check terrifying offensive threats like Tornadus-T, Flyinium Z Gyarados, and Mega Pinsir. Levitate, when paired with its resistances to Water, Ice, and Steel, also allows Rotom-W to act as a solid defensive pivot against Mamoswine, Landorus-T, and Mega Swampert. Rotom-W's respectable bulk lets it consistently support its team with support moves like Volt Switch and Will-O-Wisp. Sadly, Rotom-W's low HP stat and lack of recovery outside of Leftovers and Pain Split greatly hamper its ability to act as a bulky pivot. Furthermore, its lack of recovery means it is severely hampered by status effects, such as burn and Toxic poison. Even with its access to Levitate, Rotom-W struggles to check the majority of the Ground-types in the tier, as they are capable of exploiting Rotom-W's issues with chip damage and coverage moves.

Moves
========
Hydro Pump is Rotom-W's only Water-type STAB move, slamming Ground-types like Gliscor, Landorus-T, and Mega Swampert. Volt Switch allows Rotom-W to threaten out Flying-types like Gyarados, Tornadus-T, and Mega Pinsir and consistently generate momentum by safely pivoting out of Grass-types, particularly Tapu Bulu, Ferrothorn, and Tangrowth, which threaten it immensely. Pain Split is Rotom-W's most consistent form of recovery and grants it some leeway with staying healthy to consistently check the aforementioned Flying-types. Will-O-Wisp is used to cripple Tapu Bulu, Mega Scizor, Tangrowth, Ferrothorn, and Zygarde as they attempt to come in for free.
Set Details
========
The given EV spread allows Rotom-W to outspeed Adamant Tyranitar while remaining as physically bulky as possible to consistently check Pokemon like Flyinium Z Gyarados and Mega Pinsir. Leftovers provides additional recovery, helping Rotom-W remain healthy throughout a match. Alternatively, Wiki Berry lets Rotom-W take powerful hits and regain 50% of its HP. Levitate is Rotom-W's only ability and helps remedy its weakness to Ground-type attacks.
Usage Tips
========
Volt Switch can be used liberally, as Rotom-W is able to effectively threaten Pokemon immune to Electric-type attacks with a powerful Hydro Pump. Rotom-W should avoid switching into powerful attackers, such as Ash-Greninja and Blacephalon, as it is not specially bulky enough to reliably check these Pokemon despite resisting their STAB moves. Will-O-Wisp can be used to chip away at Grass-types like Tapu Bulu, Tangrowth, and Ferrothorn as they come in. Rotom-W's health is limited, so keep it healthy with Pain Split to let it pivot in and consistently check the Pokemon it is needed for.
Team Options
========
Rotom-W's weakness to Grass necessitates thatit be paired with good checks to common Grass-types. Pokemon like Tornadus-T and Mega Scizor work well here, as they create a VoltTurn core while consistently checking Tapu Bulu and Kartana. Pokemon with Ground-type attacks that are able to circumvent Levitate, such as Zygarde and its Thousand Arrows and Mega Gyarados and its Mold Breaker Earthquake, place a lot of pressure on Rotom-W. As such, good checks to these Pokemon like Tangrowth and Curse Mega Scizor pair nicely with Rotom-W. Wish support from Pokemon like Jirachi and Clefable helps keep Rotom-W healthy. Grass-type Pokemon like Tapu Bulu and Tangrowth appreciate a Flying-resistant Pokemon capable of checking Tornadus-T. In return, these Pokemon are able to consistently check the previously mentioned Pokemon with Ground-type coverage. Rotom-W can bring in frail wallbreakers, such as Mega Mawile and Ash-Greninja, and allow them to wreak havoc.

Other Options
=============
Thunder Wave allows Rotom-W to cripple Mega Alakazam, Serperior, Mega Latios, and Mega Charizard X looking to take advantage of it. However, without Will-O-Wisp, Rotom-W is punished much more easily by Pokemon like Zygarde and Tapu Bulu. Rotom-W has access to Defog, but it is pressed for moveslots. An offensive set with Hydro Pump / Volt Switch / Hidden Power Fire / Defog, Waterium Z, and an EV spread of 196 HP / 252 SpA / 56 Spe is an alternative for more offensively oriented teams. Toxic can alternatively be used to punish Gastrodon, which otherwise is completely unfazed by Rotom-W. A set utilizing a Choice item seems usable thanks to Rotom-W's bulk, decent Special Attack, and access to Trick to cripple bulkier Pokemon, but sacrificing its defensive utility is usually not worth the trade-off.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Grass-types**: Grass-type Pokemon resist both of Rotom-W's STAB attacks and can threaten it out with super effective attacks. While Kartana and Tapu Bulu fear a burn upon switching in, they can still effectively scare out Rotom-W Ferrothorn and Tangrowth can come in on Rotom-W freely but can be worn down with the combination of Will-O-Wisp and Volt Switch.
**Dragon-types**: Kyurem-B is a terrifyingly powerful Pokemon that resists both of Rotom-W's STAB moves and only partially fears a burn. Mega Latios similarly fears nothing from Rotom-W and threatens it with a 2HKO from Psychic. Zygarde does not appreciate a burn, but Substitute variants are able to use Rotom-W as setup fodder and threaten it with Thousand Arrows. Garchomp similarly does not appreciate being burned, but it is capable of threatening Rotom-W with Devastating Drake.
**Pokemon That Can Bypass Levitate**: Despite having access to Levitate, there are still Ground-types that can threaten Rotom-W. Particularly, Rotom-W has to watch out for Zygarde's Thousand Arrows, Landorus-T's Smack Down or Gravity, and Excadrill and Mega Gyarados's Mold Breaker Earthquake, as all are able to circumvent Levitate.
**Residual Damage**: Rotom-W's mediocre recovery means it is very susceptible to chip damage from various sources, such as Toxic from Heatran, U-turn from Tornadus-T and Landorus-T, and Stealth Rock. Keep this in mind as you try to keep Rotom-W healthy to check what it is needed for. Gastrodon is particularly noteworthy, as it is immune to Volt Switch and Hydro Pump and can cripple Rotom-W with Toxic.
**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Pokemon with high special bulk like Chansey, Reuniclus, and Clefable can freely switch into Rotom-W, although they all fear the threat of Volt Switch. Natural Cure and Magic Guard allow the aforementioned Pokemon to shrug off burns, and both Calm Mind Clefable and Reuniclus can use Rotom-W as setup fodder.
