OU Rotom-W (QC 3/3) (GP 2/2)

teachable

Banned deucer.
[OVERVIEW]

Rotom-W has a great Electric / Water typing that is made even greater when paired with Levitate, which makes its Electric typing far less exploitable. Levitate lets Rotom-W handle Ground-types like Gliscor and Mamoswine with its STAB Hydro Pump and act as one of the best Flying-resistant Pokemon to check terrifying offensive threats like Tornadus-T, Flyinium Z Gyarados, and Mega Pinsir. Levitate, when paired with its resistances to Water, Ice, and Steel, also allows Rotom-W to act as a solid defensive pivot against Mamoswine, Landorus-T, and Mega Swampert. Rotom-W's respectable bulk lets it consistently support its team with support moves like Volt Switch and Will-O-Wisp. Sadly, Rotom-W's low HP stat and lack of recovery outside of Leftovers and Pain Split greatly hamper its ability to act as a bulky pivot. Furthermore, its lack of recovery means it is severely hampered by status effects, such as burn and Toxic poison. Even with its access to Levitate, Rotom-W struggles to check the majority of the Ground-types in the tier, as they are capable of exploiting Rotom-W's issues with chip damage and coverage moves.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Hydro Pump is Rotom-W's only Water-type STAB move, slamming Ground-types like Gliscor, Landorus-T, and Mega Swampert. Volt Switch allows Rotom-W to threaten out Flying-types like Gyarados, Tornadus-T, and Mega Pinsir and consistently generate momentum by safely pivoting out of Grass-types, particularly Tapu Bulu, Ferrothorn, and Tangrowth, which threaten it immensely. Pain Split is Rotom-W's most consistent form of recovery and grants it some leeway with staying healthy to consistently check the aforementioned Flying-types. Will-O-Wisp is used to cripple Tapu Bulu, Mega Scizor, Tangrowth, Ferrothorn, and Zygarde as they attempt to come in for free.

Set Details
========

The given EV spread allows Rotom-W to outspeed Adamant Tyranitar while remaining as physically bulky as possible to consistently check Pokemon like Flyinium Z Gyarados and Mega Pinsir. Leftovers provides additional recovery, helping Rotom-W remain healthy throughout a match. Alternatively, Wiki Berry lets Rotom-W take powerful hits and regain 50% of its HP. Levitate is Rotom-W's only ability and helps remedy its weakness to Ground-type attacks.

Usage Tips
========

Volt Switch can be used liberally, as Rotom-W is able to effectively threaten Pokemon immune to Electric-type attacks with a powerful Hydro Pump. Rotom-W should avoid switching into powerful attackers, such as Ash-Greninja and Blacephalon, as it is not specially bulky enough to reliably check these Pokemon despite resisting their STAB moves. Will-O-Wisp can be used to chip away at Grass-types like Tapu Bulu, Tangrowth, and Ferrothorn as they come in. Rotom-W's health is limited, so keep it healthy with Pain Split to let it pivot in and consistently check the Pokemon it is needed for.

Team Options
========

Rotom-W's weakness to Grass necessitates thatit be paired with good checks to common Grass-types. Pokemon like Tornadus-T and Mega Scizor work well here, as they create a VoltTurn core while consistently checking Tapu Bulu and Kartana. Pokemon with Ground-type attacks that are able to circumvent Levitate, such as Zygarde and its Thousand Arrows and Mega Gyarados and its Mold Breaker Earthquake, place a lot of pressure on Rotom-W. As such, good checks to these Pokemon like Tangrowth and Curse Mega Scizor pair nicely with Rotom-W. Wish support from Pokemon like Jirachi and Clefable helps keep Rotom-W healthy. Grass-type Pokemon like Tapu Bulu and Tangrowth appreciate a Flying-resistant Pokemon capable of checking Tornadus-T. In return, these Pokemon are able to consistently check the previously mentioned Pokemon with Ground-type coverage. Rotom-W can bring in frail wallbreakers, such as Mega Mawile and Ash-Greninja, and allow them to wreak havoc.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Thunder Wave allows Rotom-W to cripple Mega Alakazam, Serperior, Mega Latios, and Mega Charizard X looking to take advantage of it. However, without Will-O-Wisp, Rotom-W is punished much more easily by Pokemon like Zygarde and Tapu Bulu. Rotom-W has access to Defog, but it is pressed for moveslots. An offensive set with Hydro Pump / Volt Switch / Hidden Power Fire / Defog, Waterium Z, and an EV spread of 196 HP / 252 SpA / 56 Spe is an alternative for more offensively oriented teams. Toxic can alternatively be used to punish Gastrodon, which otherwise is completely unfazed by Rotom-W. A set utilizing a Choice item seems usable thanks to Rotom-W's bulk, decent Special Attack, and access to Trick to cripple bulkier Pokemon, but sacrificing its defensive utility is usually not worth the trade-off.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types**: Grass-type Pokemon resist both of Rotom-W's STAB attacks and can threaten it out with super effective attacks. While Kartana and Tapu Bulu fear a burn upon switching in, they can still effectively scare out Rotom-W Ferrothorn and Tangrowth can come in on Rotom-W freely but can be worn down with the combination of Will-O-Wisp and Volt Switch.

**Dragon-types**: Kyurem-B is a terrifyingly powerful Pokemon that resists both of Rotom-W's STAB moves and only partially fears a burn. Mega Latios similarly fears nothing from Rotom-W and threatens it with a 2HKO from Psychic. Zygarde does not appreciate a burn, but Substitute variants are able to use Rotom-W as setup fodder and threaten it with Thousand Arrows. Garchomp similarly does not appreciate being burned, but it is capable of threatening Rotom-W with Devastating Drake.

**Pokemon That Can Bypass Levitate**: Despite having access to Levitate, there are still Ground-types that can threaten Rotom-W. Particularly, Rotom-W has to watch out for Zygarde's Thousand Arrows, Landorus-T's Smack Down or Gravity, and Excadrill and Mega Gyarados's Mold Breaker Earthquake, as all are able to circumvent Levitate.

**Residual Damage**: Rotom-W's mediocre recovery means it is very susceptible to chip damage from various sources, such as Toxic from Heatran, U-turn from Tornadus-T and Landorus-T, and Stealth Rock. Keep this in mind as you try to keep Rotom-W healthy to check what it is needed for. Gastrodon is particularly noteworthy, as it is immune to Volt Switch and Hydro Pump and can cripple Rotom-W with Toxic.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Pokemon with high special bulk like Chansey, Reuniclus, and Clefable can freely switch into Rotom-W, although they all fear the threat of Volt Switch. Natural Cure and Magic Guard allow the aforementioned Pokemon to shrug off burns, and both Calm Mind Clefable and Reuniclus can use Rotom-W as setup fodder.

I'm back.
Not QC team but um, I think you have a little misconception on how bulky Rotom-W is...

The given EV spread allows Rotom-W to tank two Shadow Balls from Scarf Blacephalon and outspeed Adamant Tyranitar while remaining as physically bulky as possible to consistently check Pokemon like Hawlucha and Mega Pinsir.
+2 252+ Atk Hawlucha High Jump Kick vs. 248 HP / 124+ Def Rotom-Wash: 280-331 (92.4 - 109.2%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO

OVERVIEW

  • Rotom-W's great bulk
this oversells its bulk a bit, i think a better description is good/respectable

  • Levitate, when paired with its resistances to Water, Ice, and Steel, allow Rotom-W to act as one of the tier's best switchins to Heatran and Mega Swampert.
i'd change "one of the tier's best switchins" to "a solid defensive pivot into Heatran and Mega Swampert", it's not a great Heatran SI really

  • Being a Water-type not weak to Electric eases teambuilding, having to worry less about creating a Zapdos weak team.
idt this part is needed, remove it altogether

Sadly, the popularity of Smack Down and Gravity Landorus-T has severely dampened Rotom-W's ability to check the most common Ground-type in the tier.
neither move is popular, but Rotom doesn't like pivoting into Lando due to u-turn+rocks chip regardless

MOVES
========

Hydro Pump is Rotom-W's Water-type STAB of choice
only Water-type STAB, you don't get a choice

Toxic can alternatively be used to punish Gastrodon whom otherwise is completely unphased by Rotom-W.
move Toxic to OO, it's pretty niche considering how one of its biggest targets is Gastro, something very much on the down & how wisp helps w SO much more

idk if GP wants discharge or t-bolt here, lemme know. I know Defog is OO.
idk if u meant QC but neither

The given EV spread
change it to EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 Spe, the defense is far far more useful

  • Rotom-W should be used to pivot into Pokemon it checks like Heatran and Scizor, using Volt Switch to bring in a slower breaker or firing off a Hydro Pump on a predicted switch to a Ground-type like Gliscor, Landorus-T, and Zygarde.
  • Volt Switch liberally should your opponent lack a Ground-type opponent
i think this whole section is a bit misleading, since those mons and grounds in general are from stuff u wanna pivot into Rotom. he's pretty much the easiest mon to click volt switch with, the only viable thing that blocks it is Gastro.

basically i'd remove the "firing off a Hydro Pump on a predicted switch" part and replace it with something like "fire off decently powerful Hydro Pumps" and mention how u can use Volt Switch freely since volt blockers cant pivot into you

Will-O-Wisp can be used to chip away at the aformentioned Ground-types
same as above, the ground-types part isn't needed since u alrdy mentioned how wisp cripples zygarde and gastro above

Team Options
========

move Tangrowth to the Grass type section

Rotom-W can pivot in frail breakers
replace "pivot in" with "bring in"

Other Options
=============

on the Choiced section, mention Trick since it's those type of sets biggest advantage over regular Rotom

Checks and Counters
===================

mention Reuniclus on the Specially Defensive section, it's as good a rotom SI as clef

[Overview]

  • Rotom-W's respectable bulk lets it consistently support its team with access to support moves like Volt Switch, Will-O-Wisp, and Toxic.
Don't mention Toxic here because it was dropped.

  • Levitate, when paired with its resistances to Water, Ice, and Steel, allow Rotom-W to act as a solid defensive pivot into Heatran and Mega Swampert.
Idk about mentioning Heatran here because Rotom-W really isn't a "solid" pivot into Heatran. Also, what does Ice have to do with any of the currently mentioned Pokemon? Mention Mamoswine here.

  • Strong base power STAB option in Hydro Pump allows it to not be too passive despite having no offensive investment.
It's not Hydro Pump that does this. In fact, Hydro Pump is quite easy to switch into.

  • Sadly, chip damage from U-turn and Stealth Rock severely dampens Rotom-W's ability to check the most common Ground-type in the tier: Landorus-T. Further, it is similarly prevented from checking Zygarde and Mega Gyarados due to Thousand Arrows and Mold Breaker respectively.
Make this more of a general point on the fact that Rotom-W isn't a very good answer to half the Ground-types that are used in the tier, despite having access to Levitate.

[Set]

[SET]

move 2: Volt Switch
move 3: Paint Split
move 4: Will-O-Wisp
item: Leftovers
ability: Levitate

Paint Split is not a move. Also, slash Iapapa Berry here.

[Moves]

  • Hydro Pump is Rotom-W's only Water-type STAB, able to slap Pokemon Ground-types like Gliscor, Landorus-T, and Mega Swampert.
Pokemon Ground-types.:psyduck:

  • Volt Switch allows Rotom-W to safely pivot out of Grass-types, particularly Tapu Bulu, Ferrothorn, and Tangrowth, which threaten it immensely.
And threatens out Flying-types like Gyarados and Mega Pinsir while also letting it consistently generate momentum.

  • Pain Split is Rotom-W's most consistent form of recovery and grants it some leeway with staying healthy. Its low HP stat allows it to effectively punish common switch ins like Chansey and the aformentioned Grass-types.
You're not really going to use Pain Split on any of the given examples, you'd rather gain momentum on them most of time. Pain Split also lets Rotom-W consistently check Flying-types.

  • Will-O-Wisp is used to debilitate Tapu Bulu and Zygarde as they attempt to come in for free.
Also punishes Pokemon like Mega Scizor, Ferrothorn, and Tangrowth.

  • Thunder Wave alternatively allows Rotom-W to cripple Serperior, Mega Latios, and Mega Charizard X looking to take advantage of Rotom-W.
Drop Thunder Wave to the top of Other Options and mention that Thunder wave makes it way easier to be punished by other Pokemon such as Zygarde. Also mention Mega Alakazam as a target because it's the biggest reason why you would want to use Thunder Wave instead of Will-O-Wisp.

[Set Details]

The given EV spread allows Rotom-W to outspeed Adamant Tyranitar while remaining as physically bulky as possible to consistently check Pokemon like Tornadus-T, Flyinium Z Gyarados, Mega Pinsir.
You don't really need the investment to check Tornadus-T.

  • Levitate is Rotom-W's only ability but helps remedy its weakness to Ground-type attacks.
"But" makes it sound like a negative thing, so say "and" instead.

Talk about Iapapa Berry.

[Usage Tips]

Talk about how you won't want to switch Rotom-W into strong hits from Pokemon such as Ash-Greninja and Blacephalon, despite resisting them.

[Team Options]

Pokemon with Ground-type attacks able to circumvent Levitate, such as Zygarde's Thousand Arrows or Mega Gyarados's Mold Breaker Earthquake, place a lot of pressure on Rotom-W. As such, good checks to these Pokemon like Mega Scizor and Ferrothorn pair nicely.
Ferrothorn really isn't that good of a check to Zygarde or Mega Gyarados, mention Tangrowth here instead.

  • Grass-type Pokemon like Tapu Bulu and Tangrowth appreciate a Flying-type resist capable of checking Tornadus-T.
They're also a lot better at checking most Ground-types aswell.

  • Rotom-W can bring in frail breakers, like Mega Medicham and Choice Band Kartana, and allow them to wreck havoc.
Other breakers such as Mega Mawile and Ash-Greninja are much better examples.

[Other Options]

  • A set utilizing a Choice item seems usable, thanks to Rotom-W's bulk, decent Special Attack, and access to Trick to cripple bulkier Pokemon, but its mediocre Speed stat makes both Choice Specs and Choice Scarf poor options.
Its mediocre Speed stat really isn't what makes these items bad choices. It's the fact that you give up a lot of utility.

Mention offensive Rotom-W.

[Checks and Counters]

**Dragon-types**: Kyurem-B is a terrifyingly powerful Pokemon that resists both of Rotom-W's STABs and only partially fears a burn. Latios similarly fears nothing from Rotom-W and threatens it with a 2HKO from Draco Meteor. Zygarde does not appreciate a burn, but Substitute variants are able to use Rotom-W as setup fodder and threaten it with Thousand Arrows.
Mega Latios is a much better example than Latios, and 2HKOes with Psychic.

**Ground-types**: Despite having access to Levitate, there are still Ground-types able to threaten Rotom-W. Particularly, Rotom-W has to watch out for Zygarde's Thousand Arrows, Smack Down or Gravity Landorus-T, and Mega Gyarados's Mold Breaker Earthquake as all are able to circumvent Levitate. Offensive Ground-types additionally will pack coverage options that are able to shred through Rotom-W such as Landorus-T's Continental Crush. Gastrodon is immune to both of Rotom-W's STAB moves and can wither it away with Toxic.
Turn this into "Ground-type coverage" because you mention Mega Gyarados aswell. Somewhere mention Garchomp aswell.

**Dragon-types**: Kyurem-B is a terrifyingly powerful Pokemon that resists both of Rotom-W's STABs and only partially fears a burn. Mega Latios similarly fears nothing from Rotom-W and threatens it with a 2HKO from Psychic. Zygarde does not appreciate a burn, but Substitute variants are able to use Rotom-W as setup fodder and threaten it with Thousand Arrows.

**Ground-type coverage**: Despite having access to Levitate, there are still Ground-types able to threaten Rotom-W. Particularly, Rotom-W has to watch out for Zygarde's Thousand Arrows, Smack Down or Gravity Landorus-T, and Mega Gyarados's Mold Breaker Earthquake as all are able to circumvent Levitate. Offensive Ground-types additionally will pack coverage options that are able to shred through Rotom-W such as Landorus-T's Continental Crush and Garchomp's Devastating Drake. Gastrodon is immune to both of Rotom-W's STAB moves and can wither it away with Toxic.

**Residual Damage**: Mediocre recovery means Rotom-W is very suspectible to chip damage from various sources such as Toxic from Heatran, U-turn damage from Tornadus-T and Landorus-T, and Stealth Rock damage. Keep this in mind as you try to keep it healthy to check what it is needed for.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: High special bulk allows Pokemon similar to Chansey, Reuniclus, and Clefable free switch ins to Rotom-W, only fearing a Volt Switch. Natural Cure and Magic Guard allow both Pokemon to shrug off burns, and both Calm Mind Clefable and Reuniclus can use Rotom-W as setup fodder. This should be reworded

Rotom-W has an incredibly unique Electric / Water typing, made even moreso when paired with Levitate which makes its Electric typing far less explotiable
minor nitpick but incredibly unique implies it’s the only mon w said typing which isnt true so id tone it down a bit
Mamoswine, Jirachi, and Mega Swampert.
idk how levitate helps vs rachi and if it did its not worth mentioning regardless, replace it w something like landot
Will-O-Wisp is used to debilitate Tapu Bulu, Mega Scizor, Tangrowth, Ferrothorn, and Zygarde as they attempt to come in for free.
tang doesnt really mind the atk reduction from the burn so either remove it or reword to cripple or smt
As such, good checks to these Pokemon like Mega Scizor and Tangrowth pair nicely.
specify curse mzor

this is kinda confusing cause the bullet is named ground type coverage yet you mention ground types w other coverage down the road and gastro later, either move them somewhere else or rename the bullet/dont mention them.

[OVERVIEW]

Rotom-W has a great Electric / Water typing [RC] that is made even moreso when paired with Levitate, [AC] which makes its Electric typing far less explotiable exploitable. Particularly, this Levitate lets Rotom-W handle Ground-types like Gliscor and Mamoswine with its STAB Hydro Pump and act as one of the best Flying-type resists Flying-resistant Pokemon [resist cannot be used as a noun] to check terrifying [threatening might be a better word here?] offensive Pokemon like Torandus-T Tornadus-T, Flyinium Z Gyarados, [AC] and Mega Pinsir. Rotom-W's respectable bulk lets it consistently support its team with access to support moves like Volt Switch and Will-O-Wisp. Levitate, when paired with its resistances to Water, Ice, and Steel, also [you're adding on to the previous info] allows Rotom-W to act as a solid defensive pivot into against Mamoswine, Landorus-T, and Mega Swampert. Rotom-W's respectable bulk lets it consistently support its team with access to support moves like Volt Switch and Will-O-Wisp. [this sentence broke up the discussion on Levitate, so I moved it after] Sadly, Rotom-W's low HP stat and lack of recovery outside of Leftovers and Pain Split greatly hampers its ability to act as a bulky pivot. Further, the its lack of recovery means it is severely hampered by status such as Burn and Toxic effects, such as burn and Toxic poison. Even with its access to Levitate, Rotom-W struggles to check the majority of the Ground-types in the tier, [AC] as they are capable of exploiting Rotom-W's issues with chip damage and utilizing their coverage moves.

Hydro Pump is Rotom-W's only Water-type STAB move, able to slap slamming Ground-types like Gliscor, Landorus-T, and Mega Swampert. Volt Switch allows Rotom-W to threaten out Flying-types like Gyarados, Tornadus-T, and Mega Pinsir while also letting it and consistently generate momentum by safely pivoting out of Grass-types, particularly Tapu Bulu, Ferrothorn, and Tangrowth, which threaten it immensely.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

Volt Switch can be used liberally, [AC] as Rotom-W is able to effectively threaten Pokemon immune to Electric-type attacks [you can also use "Electric-immune Pokemon"] with a powerful Hydro Pump. Rotom-W should avoid switching into powerful attackers, [AC] such as Ash-Greninja and Blacephalon, as despite resisting their STAB moves it is not specially bulky enough to reliably check these Pokemon despite resisting their STAB moves. [reorganized to avoid too many commas] Will-O-Wisp can be used to chip away at Grass-types like Tapu Bulu, Tangrowth, and Ferrothorn as they come in. Rotom-W's lifespan is limited, so keep this in mind as you pivot it in. Keep it healthy with Pain Split to let it pivot in and consistently check the Pokemon it is needed for. [combined the previous two sentences because they connect]

Team Options
========

A weakness to Grass-types necessitates that Rotom-W be paired with a good check for them. Pokemon such as like Tornadus-T [RC] and Mega Scizor work well here, as both help create a VoltTurn core while providing consistent checks for consistently checking Tapu Bulu and Kartana. Pokemon with Ground-type attacks that are able to circumvent Levitate, such as Zygarde's Zygarde and its Thousand Arrows or and Mega Gyarados's Mega Gyarados and its Mold Breaker Earthquake, [changed so the list matches with the subject of "Pokemon with [...]"] place a lot of pressure on Rotom-W. As such, good checks to these Pokemon like Tangrowth and Curse Mega Scizor and Tangrowth [just to make it clear that you're not talking about a Curse Tangrowth set] pair nicely with Rotom-W. Wish support from Pokemon like Jirachi and Clefable helps keep Rotom-W healthy. Grass-type Pokemon like Tapu Bulu and Tangrowth appreciate a Flying-type resist Flying-resistant Pokemon capable of checking Tornadus-T. In return, these Pokemon are able to consistently check the previously mentioned Pokemon with Ground-type coverage. Rotom-W can bring in frail wallbreakers, like such as Mega Mawile and Ash-Greninja, and allow them to wreck havoc.

Thunder Wave allows Rotom-W to cripple Mega Alakazam, Serperior, Mega Latios, and Mega Charizard X looking to take advantage of Rotom-W. However, without Will-O-Wisp, Rotom-W is punished much easier more easily by Pokemon such as like Zygarde and Tapu Bulu. Rotom-W has access to Defog, but being pressured it is pressed for moveslots means you will be pressed to make it fit. An offensive set with Hydro Pump / Volt Switch / Hidden Power Fire / Defog, Waterium Z, and an EV spread of 196 HP / 252 SpA / 56 Spe is an alternative for more offensive oriented teams. Toxic can alternatively be used to punish Gastrodon, [AC] whom which otherwise is completely unphased unfazed by Rotom-W. A set utilizing a Choice item seems usable [RC] thanks to Rotom-W's bulk, decent Special Attack, and access to Trick to cripple bulkier Pokemon, but sacrificing its defensive utility is usually not worth the trade off trade-off.
