[Overview]

  • Rotom-Wash is one of OU’s best defensive pivots because it has a unique typing that can hit ground type super effective and has Utility moves like Thunder Wave and Will-O-Wisp and decent recovery such as Pain Split so it can be healthy.
  • Access to Volt Switch lets Rotom-W become a wonderful defensive pivot because of its immunity to ground moves, access to recovery and having a unblockable Volt Switch since grounds types like Landorus-T, Hippowdon and Garchomp cant switch in on Hydro Pump or Will-O-Wisp. Rotom-W is also very hard to switch into since nothing likes switching on its utility moves or Volt Switch or its stab Hydro Pump. Giving it a lot of chances to get in to cripple something or pivot out to give momentum.
  • Rotom-W is also good at being a pivot while also checking a lot of Pokemon in the OU meta, checking the likes of Tornadus-T, Heatran, Urshifu-Rapid-Strike, Landorus-T, Garchomp, Hippowdon, Corviknight, Skarmory and Mandibuzz.
  • Not a lot of Pokemon like Switching on Rotom-W since its access to Thunder Wave and Will-O-Wisp gives Rotom-W utility and cripple a lot of attackers like Dragapult, Tapu Lele, Kartana, Rillaboom, Urshifu-Rapid-Strike and Weavile.
  • Unfortunately, Rotom-W has low HP and gets overwhelmed a lot in a match since it needs to use pain split constantly to be healthy and needs a Pokemon that has full hp so it can gain health. Fortunately, it can get back up a lot of HP against high HP Pokemon like Blissey with Pain Split
  • Rotom-W tends to get worn down a lot by Status Conditions and most of the Pokemon Rotom-W checks like Landorus-T, Tank Garchomp, Hippowdon and Heatran oftentimes carry Toxic to overwhelm and cripple Rotom-W and hurting its longevity.
  • Rotom-W is also prone to Knock Off from Tornadus-T and Landorus-T since it doesnt like its Leftovers getting removed, Rotom-W comes in a lot on Corviknight, Tornadus-T, Mandibuzz and Landorus-T they often carry U-Turn meaning they can pivot out of Rotom-W to something that deals with it and chipping Rotom-W.
[SET]
name: Defensive Pivot
move 1: Volt Switch
move 2: Hydro Pump
move 3: Pain Split
move 4: Will-O-Wisp / Thunder Wave
item: Leftovers
ability: Levitate
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 168 Def / 88 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

  • Listed Ev spread lets Rotom-W check the attackers it checks like Landorus-T, Sand Rush Excadrill, Melmetal and still checking Tornadus-T and Heatran.
  • 88 Speed lets Rotom-W hit 230 Speed and outspeed Specially Defensive Heatran, Jolly Crawdaunt and Scizor and every Pokemon in the 220 benchmark.
  • Volt Switch is required for Rotom-W to pivot and gain momentum while still having good stab at hitting Water Types and Flying Types.
  • Hydro Pump is a powerful stab for Rotom-W to let it hit neutral targets and Ground Types like Landorus-T, Hippowdon and Garchomp.
  • Pain Split gives Rotom-W decent recovery so it can regain hp to help its longevity in a match.
  • Thunder Wave lets Rotom-W cripple fast attackers like Dragapult, Volcarona and Tornadus-T while still letting it cripple breakers like Tapu Lele, Kartana and Heatran.
  • Will-O-Wisp let's Rotom-W cripple physical attackers like Weavile, Bisharp, Garchomp, Kartana and Rillaboom.
  • Rotom-W can use Defog in the final slot and act as a defogger that can beat most of the rockers in the tier like Garchomp and Landorus-T, although this will have to replace a utility move that Rotom-W doesn't like since it will hurt its ability to check the things it needs to.
  • Leftovers helps Rotom-W gain passive Recovery.
---
  • Bulky Offense teams appreciate Rotom-W ability to being a water resist, pivot and ground immunity.
  • Partners like Defensive Landorus-T appreciate Rotom-W ability to cripple and scare out defoggers like Corviknight and Mandibuzz and other flying Types like Skarmory while scaring out Grounds like Hippowdon. Landorus-T can also provide a Voltturn Core with Rotom-W.
  • Heatran is another great partner for Rotom-W. Rotom-W gives switchins like Specially Defensive Pokemon like Blissey or Slowking-Galar and Grass-types and Toxapex and with Rotom-W ability to pivot out of these switchins. Heatran can beat/trap all of the switchins that Rotom-W gives and trap them like Toxapex and Blissey, also Rotom-W can handle the Water and Ground types that Heatran struggle with like Landorus-T, Hippowdon, Garchomp and Swampert and Urshifu-Rapid-Strike.
  • Wallbreakers like Garchomp, Rillaboom and Kartana can deal with Toxapex and specially defensive Pokemon that Rotom-W struggles with, they also like Rotom-W ability to gain momentum since Rotom-W can handle the Pokemon that Kartana, Rillaboom and Garchomp that they struggle like Corviknight, Heatran, Skarmory, Slowbro and Mandibuzz.

Rotom-W can run a Choice Scarf set with Trick that can cripple Pokemon like Blissey, Toxapex, Ferrothorn and Slowking and be a fast pivot with Volt Switch, But that would have to remove a utility move which is gonna hurt for Rotom-W since it wont give Rotom-W any utility to check Pokemon.

Checks and Counters
====

**Status**: Rotom-W really hates Status since it hurts its ability to check the Pokemon it needs to, Toxic from Heatran, Excadrill, Landorus-T hurt it a lot, Will-O-Wisp in general also hurts it, since it wont give Rotom-W Leftovers recovery.

**Residual Damage**: Even with Pain split and Leftovers, Rotom-W mediocre recovery means its super prone to chip moves like Toxic from Heatran and Landorus-T, U-turn from Landorus-T and Tornadus-T and Knock Off from Toxapex and Tornadus-T and Stealth Rock chip.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Specially Defensive Pokemon like Toxic Blissey or Slowking-Galar deal with Rotom-W easily since they can take all of Rotom-W's hits, only fearing Volt Switch since it gives Rotom-W momentum to get in a physical attacker to deal with them.

**Grass-types**: Grass types like Rillaboom or Kartana all resist Rotom-W stab moves but don't like switching on a burn, but they can scare out Rotom-W with there super effective moves. Ferrothorn and Tangrowth deal with Rotom-W easily, only fearing a burn for Ferrothorn or Volt Switch for Tangrowth.

I'm here again with the fire EV spreads. That spread is a bit suboptimal. If you're trying to stick to that Speed threshold of outrunning Bisharp and max-speed Magnezone (and by extension SpD Heatran), I'd go with this spread: 252 HP / 124 Def / 132 Speed and Bold. That spread does a few things:
  • Reaches 241 Speed, which outruns both Adamant Bisharp and Timid Magnezone. Also keep in mind that analyses aren't allowed to "speed creep", meaning you have to aim for minimum Speed or maximum Speed on things. Since Landorus-T will rarely run min-Speed, I'd drop the bit that you outrun it. (I hope that makes sense; I'm typing while distracted)
  • Reached 309 Defense, which is higher than your spreads by 5 points.
  • I don't have the brainpower right now to figure out if 252 HP or 248 HP is superior; someone smarter than me can advise on this.
That's if QC wants to keep that Speed tier though. I'm not sure if outrunning Bisharp is the thing to aim for, but if it is that's the spread you want.

  • Rotom-W is one of OU’s best defensive pivots.
  • Access to volt switch lets rotom-w to gain momentum and be a great pivot wouldn't this not be the case for any Pokémon that carries a pivoting move. I feel you would need some way to make it stand out more.
  • Has solid bulk and typing
  • Access to thunder wave and willowisp gives rotom-w a lot of utility and cripple physical attackers and fast attackers such as? Examples of which foes Rotom-W can cripple with its status moves.
  • Rotom-W has low hp and is pretty easily worn down even with pain split
  • Rotom-W gets worn down a lot by status like toxic from heatran or lando-t

Volt Switch is required for rotom-w to pivot out and gain momentum, Pain split gives Rotom-W decent recovery so it can have longevity to check the things Pokemon it wants to check awesome but what? What kind of Pokémon does Rotom check?. Hydro Pump gives rotom-w a stab move and access to hit ground types and fire types like?. Thunder Wave lets rotom-w cripple dragapult, tornadus-t and +1 volcarona and still giving access to cripple wallbreakers like Tapu Lele, Kartana, Heatran. Will-o-wisp lets rotom-w cripple physical attackers like rillaboom, kartana, and ground types. 48 Speed with timid lets rotom-w hit 243 speed and outspeed bisharp and specially defensive heatran and defensive landot. 252 hp and 208 defense lets rotom-w check a lot of physical attackers and still be able to check tornadus-t also avoiding a 2hitko from zeraora. Rotom-W has access to defog and can act as a defogger that can beat grounds that setup rocks like who? Perhaps Landorus-T would be a solid choice, although, this will have to replace a utility move which rotom-w doesn’t like, since it will hurt its ability to check mons.

Rotom-W best fits on Bulky Offense teams, who need a defensive pivot who can check grounds and gain momentum, Partners like Landorus-T work great with Rotom-W, since Rotom-W can cripple grounds and flying types that landorus-T struggle with what kind of foes does Lando-T struggle to beat, and can also provide a voltturn core. Heatran is another great partner for rotom wash. Rotom-W gives switchins like Specially Defensive mons like Blissey or Slowking-Galar and Grass-types and with rotom-W volt switch, Heatran can beat all of the switchins rotom-w gives and trap them I think Toxapex could be mentioned, as Heatran can trap with Magma Storm and then you can switch to an appropriate ally, also rotom wash can handle the water and ground types that Heatran struggle with which Water- and Ground-types does Rotom-W help Heatran beat. Wallbreakers like Garchomp, Rillaboom and Kartana can deal with toxapex and specially defensive pokemon they also like rotom-w ability to gain momentum since rotom-wash can handle the flying, fire, and water types that Garchomp, Rillaboom and Kartana struggle. Special mention to Rillaboom since its grassy surge can provide rotom-wash some passive recovery. remove this because Rotom-W has Levitate it does NOT gain any benefits from Grassy Surge.

  • Access to Volt Switch lets Rotom-W become a wonderful defensive pivot because of its immunity to ground moves, access to recovery and having a unblockable <-explain what you mean by unblockable Volt Switch, since lowercase g -> Ground types like Landorus-T, Hippowdon, and Garchomp can't switch in on a Hydro Pump or Will-O-Wisp respectively . Rotom-W is also very hard to switch into what since (nothing likes switching on its utility moves or Volt Switch or its stab Hydro Pump) <-needs revision. Giving it a lot of chances to get in to cripple something or pivot out to give momentum <- sentence fragment, needs revision, probably merge this sentence with the prior sentence.
  • Rotom-W is also good at being a pivot while also checking a lot of Pokemon in the OU meta <- repetitive, needs revision, checking the likes of Tornadus-T, Heatran, Urshifu-Rapid-Strike, Landorus-T, Garchomp, Hippowdon, Corviknight, Skarmory and Mandibuzz.
  • Not a lot of Pokemon like Sswitching on Rotom-W since its access to Thunder Wave and Will-O-Wisp gives Rotom-W utility <- repetitive, merge this clause back into the previous points. and cripple a lot of attackers like Dragapult, Tapu Lele, Kartana, Rillaboom, Urshifu-Rapid-Strike and Weavile Kartana, and Urshifu-Rapid-Strike aren't staying in, they would have to switch out.
  • Unfortunately, Rotom-W has low hpHP and gets overwhelmed a lot in a match since it needs to use pain split constantly to be healthy and needs a Pokemon that has full hp so it can gain health Rotom-W's low HP is actually good since pain split would work better on Pokemon such as Blissey.
  • Rotom-W tends to get worn down a lot by Status Conditions, like Toxic and most of the Pokemon Rotom-W checks like Landorus-T, Tank Garchomp, Hippowdon and Heatran oftentimes carry Toxic to overwhelm and cripple Rotom-W, and hurts it hurting its longevity.
  • Rotom-W is also prone to Knock Off from Tornadus-T and Landorus-T since Rotom-W it doesn't like its Leftovers getting removed and since Rotom-W comes in a lot on Corviknight, Tornadus-T, Mandibuzz and Landorus-T they often carry U-Turn meaning they can pivot out of Rotom-W to something that deals with it and chipping Rotom-W.
  • Give more positives about Rotom-W and less negatives.

Rotom-W can run a Choice Scarf set with Trick that can cripple Pokemon like Blissey, Toxapex, Ferrothorn, and Slowking and be a fast pivot with Volt Switch, But that would have to remove a utility move which is gonna hurt for Rotom-W since it wont give Rotom-W any utility to check Pokemon.
I suggest adding boots as an "Other Options" set.
