Hello! This thread serves as a place for successful RU teams intended to help new players get acclimated to the metagame and different playstyles. The subtle differences in each tier can make RU seem overwhelming, even to seasoned veterans of other tiers. Here, you can post and archive your own team for new RU players to use.

Posting Guidelines
  • Give a short explanation of the role that each member of your team plays, and how the team works.
  • Provide an importable.
  • You must have some experience with your team before posting. Don’t post a team you just made in the team builder and thought looked good. Providing replays is a good way to prove that you have used your team a fair bit and that it’s viable; it will also give us an idea of how to play with the team.
  • Your team must represent the current metagame.
  • You must PM me and MrAldo here or on Discord (CryoGyro#6677 and MrAldo#2762) with the above criteria for approval.
  • Do not post a team without approval.
  • 1-liners are not allowed. If you have a question, PM me or MrAldo over Discord (our Discords are above) with any questions, I can guarantee I will provide an answer quickly. Posting them here simply clogs the thread and makes it harder for new players to find samples, don't do it.

Great team I made with Molk during the spring, which then saw lots of success in RU Majors, RU Open and finally - Smogon Snake Draft. This team was more or less built around the core of Max HP Nec + Cleric (Vap). At the time, and well, even to this day, the tier is lacking truly good fighting checks. Helm Vern is frail as fuck and gets its wings clipped apart, even if you only run enough speed for Lazzle and drop the rest into hp and def. The only solid fighting resist we had at the time was Slowbro. I had already built several teams around the idea of CM Bro + cleric, and thus when Molk brought up the idea of building Regi+Vap balance, I decided it would be cool to try out Max HP Nec. Little did I know at the time that we were about to discover a hidden gem. Max HP is way better at checking fightings, boosting and even more importantly - it's so goddamn hard to revenge. For instance you can simply Moonlight on Golisopod as it does 60 with FI and then bop it. Psychium Nec is absolutely necessary in order to have counterplay for Lax.

Regi has some def to help a bit vs Ttrum/Escav, but still mostly spdef bc it needs to take on Rose, Drag etc. Speed on Vap is for CB Rhyp + all the other breakers, shoutouts to Killintime for this smart optimization. Some people decided it would be a good idea to drop Heal Bell when they used this build, but I would heavily advise you not to, as every mon but Nidoqueen heavily relies on it. For instance it lets you take Toxic from Regi/Zong with Mandi/Vap and Knock its lefties/Scaldburn, so that they are weakened for Nec to sweep. I saw people try to use Slowking and Milo over Vap during some of the snake games it was brought to, but to be frank, this is just not very smart. It makes it way harder to slowly weaken your opponent while your team remains nice and healthy, as the status weakness completely kills its longevity. Additionally, do not ever forego Tect on Regi. EQ isn't necessary on this build it's not weak to Lazzle, and it also makes Ninetales an even bigger issue, while making it way harder for Regi to sustain itself. I absolutely cannot stress this enough: do not kill the longevity - it's what makes this team good.

This is based on my own battle experience of roughly 200 games with this team, as well as Bebo's - who also used it in more than 100 games and reached the mid 1900s on ladder with it. As for possible tweaks worth considering, there's really only one: Nidoqueens moveset. In fact I would even recommend using Ice Beam with the resurgence of Flygon - Toxic and Taunt can be used as well. For instance it doesn't necessarily need Sludge Wave - Regi still beats Florg. FB is mainly a tech for pesky Escavs and weakning Zong, although it can also be dropped. Tspikes is a personal favorite of mine, but can also be dropped. The only move it always needs is EP.

That being said, the team has been immensely successful to both Molk's and my own surprise, so I figured it was time to share it officially for once.

teambuilding process was pretty simple, we just wanted a barb bo and added sponges donphan / goodra / metagross to deal w most threats and provide rocks / spin. viri is great to break down defensive cores and we went w edge here because it's great on this team to snipe stuff like scarf noivern / lazzle for barb, we've also got decent checks to mons like stoise and zygarde so synthesis wasn't as important here. at this point we just needed some speed control, we ended up going for noivern because the viri matchup was pretty bad and being able to switch in at least once makes the terrible matchup workable. it covers stuff like dd zyg too, which is nice. after that we went back and added some techs to support barb - gunk + ev invest lets donphan ohko viri (you can go more for min but it really cuts into bulk) | meta hp lets you live lo fire from rose and it procs berry after two rounds of rocks + fire from non lo and is in general great for sniping threats or keeping rocks up vs donphan mandi

enjoy!

So this is a team I used to get reqs a few times. I've used a few different versions of it in the past during the Stakataka and Meloetta suspect tests, but this is the final version built for this meta. It's a pretty straightforward Stoise+Regi BO, but it has a few techs here and there. Viriz has Zen Headbutt to deal more damage to annoying mons like Croak/Rose/Nido/Drag/Weez/Garbo. Scarf Noivern is EV'd to outspeed Scarf Salazzle, revenges +2 Barb, and helps a lot with the screens matchup bc of infiltrator. Stoise has Water Pulse to OHKO Nido, Salazzle, Arcanine and Rhyperior, all of which would be somewhat annoying to deal with otherwise. Florg is max defense for once, bc the team needed a better Zyg switchin. You can also run Synthesis>Protect on Florg, the former is good for immediate recovery, while the latter lets it come in on CB Zyg after rocks more reliably.

Offense based on hazards spam with Uxie and Forretress. Those 2 can bait most defoggers or spinners, pivot out thanks to U-turn and Volt Switch and bring the Pokèmon that takes more advantage from it, for example Choice Band Machamp vs Mega Blastoise or Mismagius/Raikou vs Mandibuzz and Mantine. After setting up enough hazards and chipping the opposing team, you sweep abusing Raikou and Mismagius good speed tier or with Mega Abomasnow's priority.

AV Machamp + Psychium Z Cresselia Bulky Offense by JuanWapo

This team was built around AV Machamp, one of my favourite Pokémon in RU. It can switch in M-Blastoise easily and hit very strong too. Registeel and Cresselia are the walls of this team and they complement very well each other. Cresselia's Z stone checks Machamp and Bewear and allow Cresselia handle knock off better. M-Blastoise functions as a hazzard removal and it is strong special attacker. Roserade is one of the best Pokémon in RU and it gives the team a good spike user as well as offensive presence. Scarf Tyrantrum checks Virizion, Salazzle and Ninetales.

Zygarde-10% is a wonderful wallbreaker in the metagame. With Gligar and Chesnaught leaving, it has become one of THE best pokemon in the RU tier. bronzong + mantine form a wonderful defensive backbone for Zygarde-10% to fall back on. SD buginium Z necrozma helps break through relatively problematic pokemon such as Cresselia and Umbreon. Abomasnow forms a wallbreaking core with Zygarde-10% and paves the way for necrozma to sweep. lastly, Florges adds a much needed Dark resist + Cleric support.

This team is played entirely around Sticky Web; first you set it with Araquanid, then use one of your sweepers to win. Mega Blastoise works as hazard removal while Nidoqueen serves as the Stealth Rock setter. Special Dark Pulse Toxicroak is seriously difficult to stop, since there are not very good Dark answers other than Florges and Mandibuzz, which are threatened by +2 Sludge Wave.

pretty homosexual team. no offense. I havent found a matchup where you have no chances until now. Hazard control has become quite hard for stall with gligar leaving so you're not guaranteed to keep hazards off the field whatever comp you're running on stall anymore. Thats why I went for a more offensive approach with sneasel. It helps you generate more offensive pressure that and happens to pressure nearly all hazard setters. By playing this kind of playstyle the opponent will have less time to set up hazards and his setters will die earlier than usual against stalls since purs can guarantee kills where nothing else does. Goodra is obviously the star player as it counters virtually all special attackers that dont have dragon fairy or ice stabs. great ppstall potential with rest regi articuno and rest goodra, furthermore you should utilise your two trappers that usually let you win games against fatter teams. Your walls win against offense, especially pyuku does. If your opponent happens to run setup sweepers with taunt then you still have a phaze being goodra and a strong revenger being sneasel. Stall is generally harder to play but you should still win most games easily as long as you practiced it a little bit. It's just not as easy to play anymore though I think there should definitly be a team that represents this playstyle among the sample teams.

Dual Stallbreaker with Sableye and Aerodactyl while Virizion its my potential breaker and my ground resist / Milotic answer, thats why I'm using Synthesis Virizion to make a more reliable Zygarde & Milotic check. I also wanted to try on a build like this several Custap mons to lure opposite offensive threats and getting Sticky Web / Spikes up on those priority turns thanks to Custap Berry.

Balance built a bit more standard than the ones above. Registeel + Slowbro + Florges its my defensive core/backbone while CB Sneasel + SD-Z Virizion + Scarf Tyrantrum its my offensive core. You could use Colburr or Rindo Berry over Leftovers in Slowbro as well

Abomasnow forms a wallbreaking core with Zygarde-10% and paves the way for necrozma to sweep. lastly, Florges adds a much needed Dark resist + Cleric support.

hey guys, here's a team me & sage threw together for her spl game vs aim - import linked in sprites

teambuilding process was pretty simple, we just wanted a barb bo and added sponges donphan / goodra / metagross to deal w most threats and provide rocks / spin. viri is great to break down defensive cores and we went w edge here because it's great on this team to snipe stuff like scarf noivern / lazzle for barb, we've also got decent checks to mons like stoise and zygarde so synthesis wasn't as important here. at this point we just needed some speed control, we ended up going for noivern because the viri matchup was pretty bad and being able to switch in at least once makes the terrible matchup workable. it covers stuff like dd zyg too, which is nice. after that we went back and added some techs to support barb - gunk + ev invest lets donphan ohko viri (you can go more for min but it really cuts into bulk) | meta hp lets you live lo fire from rose and it procs berry after two rounds of rocks + fire from non lo and is in general great for sniping threats or keeping rocks up vs donphan mandi
