Ruby Soho is looking to build a wifi team!

The title really says it all. I've beaten that rascally elite four on my cart, and I'm looking to start breeding to get something together. First things first, since this is ultimately for wi fi, and not shoddy or PO, legendaries are out. I really dislike master ball camping, I can only do that once anyway, and its even more ridiculous with wandering legendaries! Essentially this means no genies, latios, or 'cune, as there is no way I'd be able to get them with good natures and IVs. I'm also opposed to Action Replay or Game Shark- I feel like its cheating =/. So everything will be personally bred and trained. For similar reasons I try to avoid hidden power as much as possible.

I had a mild jirachi, but I nuked it when I let my GF restart pearl lol

That said, I do have access to Pearl and Emerald so I'm not particularly concerned with availability and getting the right mons. I'm not really sure how dream world works, but I'll figure it out- I have a lot of breeding ahead of me anyway!

blah blah blah, I built this team out of pokemon I'd like to make work- and I've been testing it on PO to some degree of success. It seems to do OK against major threats and I like it, but I know its far from perfect.

Any advice keeping in mind my anti hacking disposition is more then welcome :)

machamp.png

Machamp (M) @ Lum Berry
Trait: No Guard
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 12 SDef / 4 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- DynamicPunch
- Ice Punch
- Bullet Punch
- Payback

This was a monster in starter in DP, and it hasn't let me down online yet. Massive attack + confusion is hilarious. Some priority and coverage and we're golden. People seem to be loving Conckledurr but I just don't see what he offers that the champ doesnt.

ferrothrn.png

Ferrothorn (F) @ Choice Band
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 124 HP / 252 Atk / 132 SDef
Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)
- Bulldoze
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
- Explosion

I love the sheer power this guy brings to the table. Some pokemon think they can just come in and set up on Ferro, or maybe taunt me. They get a nasty surprise! Speed is set at its very lowest to maximize the damage from Gyro Ball. I went with more special defense EVs because I wasn't switching into Draco Meteor's very gracefully- like I needed to be doing. I still handle outrages acceptably, and they aren't as much of a concern anyway.

Gliscor (M) @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Atk / 96 Def
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Fling
- Acrobatics
- Earthquake
- Protect

This set has grown on me. Can come on physical threats and roll with the punches. Really makes me feel safer when hes still alive.

hydreigon.png

Hydreigon (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 16 Atk / 240 SAtk / 252 Spd
Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def)
- U-turn
- Draco Meteor
- Flamethrower
- Taunt

I've ultimately moved away from the specs set due to issues with chansey and blissey. The fact that Latios seems to do it better (though hes in danger of being banned...) has caused me to move away from specs on Hydreigon. This set seems a bit more natural, as it doesn't neglect his decent attack stat

GyaradosPSprite.png

Gyarados (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 144 HP / 80 Atk / 96 Def / 188 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Taunt
- Waterfall
- Bounce
- Dragon Dance

This was the only reason I won games in DP online. No seriously. I love bulky dos like Matt Ward loves Calgar (kudos if you get that reference).
He gives me a second physical resistance, and offers some modest sweeping potential. I am going back and forth on return v bounce. I've never liked the look of bounce, what with it being a 2 turn inaccurate attack, but at the same time return doesn't help at all v ferrothorn (who is awesome).
I've also found that Gyarados doesn't seem to live as long this gen. I'll knock out a threat then get promptly brought down. Hes still pulling his weight, but I can't help but think I'm overanalyzing this last move...

Galvantula (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Compoundeyes
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Bug Buzz
- Thunder
- Energy Ball
- Hidden Power [Ice]

I liked the look of this guy, and all I can say is "wow". Honestly, nobody sees that thunder coming, he is quite the fire cracker. Fast as hell, and with great stab, I'm really not complaining.
Hes the only member on the team with hidden power, so breeding for that will be a huge bitch, but at least only 1 of 6 are dependent on it. Hes sort of an open invitation for the mole though, which worries me a bit, but with both bulky Gyarados and Gliscor, I'm somewhat covered against that menace.
I also like the targets hidden power ice hits. Its nice knowing that Garchomp only can outspeed me with choice scarf.

OK, so my biggest concerns with this team, is primarily the lack of my own choice scarf pokemon, and relatively few priority attacks. That said I've been doing pretty ok on Pokemon Online, and I've never felt it was my teams fault when I've lost (there was usually something I myself could have done better, either through prediction or whatever). I've also always favored raw power over speed, and while I appreciate that speed combined with power is important, I think its pretty clear what my tendencies are.

EDIT: I've added sprites... apparently it makes people unhappy when they aren't there =/ things sure have changed since 2005...

ok then! clearly Smogon isn't as useful as I remember it being!

I've changed up the Hydreigon set to be the mixed one

Hydreigon (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 16 Atk / 240 SAtk / 252 Spd
Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def)
- U-turn
- Draco Meteor
- Flamethrower
- Taunt

I like this a bit more, as it gives me more flexibility, and takes advantage of Hydreigon's solid attacking stats. I've knocked out a few Blisseys by taunting, u-turning to Weavile and picking em off with pursuit as they try to flee. Very satisfying.

I've also swapped the Ferrothorn set to the Choice Band Varient. I love the carnage that Gyro Ball causes to unsuspecting fast pokemon who think they'll get a chance to set up on me

Ferrothorn (F) @ Choice Band
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 124 HP / 252 Atk / 132 SDef
Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)
- Bulldoze
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
- Explosion

I've replaced Galvantula with Chandelure

Chandelure (F) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 236 HP / 252 SAtk / 20 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Psychic
- Hidden Power [Ground]

I'm running this set because I'm a greedy bastard. Fire Blast can do terrible things... I have mixed results with this thing. I gave it 201 speed- seemed like a decent enough benchmark, and put the rest into HQ and Special Attack. I figured since I was going for modest spectacles, it would be in my best interest to focus more on survivability then speed since I won't be moving particularly quickly anyway.

Finally, I replaced Gliscor with Weavile

Weavile (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Pursuit
- Ice Punch
- Ice Shard
- Low Kick

standard revenge killing goodness. I keep going back and forth on Ice Punch and Night Slash. All things considered I think I'm going to end up with Night Slash- as low kick works just fine on brave Hydreigons.

I will update the original post with the changed movesets in a minute

EDIT: Due to it being 4 in the morning, and me needing sleep something fierce. I will finish fixing the OP later tomorrow
