Tournament Info

Format:

• 4x SV RU
• 3x Flex slots per team, which can be any RU tiers from SS to ADV (excluding DPP). Each team cannot select repeats, but there can be overlap between teams.

These manager pair selections have got to be a joke. At first, I thought that its better to stay silent and let it pass, but on reconsidering it, I think it sets a dangerous precedent for the future. From what I understand, there are two primary qualities that the host looks for in any manager that has signed up:
Competence and experience in said tiers
Team chemistry /Ability to lead a team

One can argue about the weightage of said qualities, but everyone agrees that these are what every manager should have at the bare minimum. If you sign up to manage, it means that you back yourself in both these departments. Its then the host's job to use their best judgement to pick the best out of the bunch, for the overall health and success of the tournament. That does not seem to be the case here.

One look at the manager pairs, and anyone that has been keeping up with RU in recent times will tell you that something is off.

I would like to point out that the manager pairings were decided on primarily by the RU forum moderators. They, at least in my eyes, are among those who are most in touch with RU out of anyone.

While competence and experience playing RU's different generations and the ability to manage a team are definitely some of the most important qualities, there are also other factors outside of those taken into account when selecting the 8 pairings.

Among which, previous experience managing and player satisfaction when playing for said manager's team (whether good or bad), expected effort managers would be willing to put into managing, etc.

Now, while I understand there being a certain discontent of the selected pairings as everyone will have their own view on who should have or should not have been picked, I will assure you there was a long discussion with and between the forum moderators on who gets selected. These were not some arbitrary choices made by hosts who are out of touch with RU.

I hope this clears things up and helps ease concerns of a bad precedent being set.

First I gotta mention the runner ups because everyone deserves some time in the sun.

7 - TBD - seraphz & SBPC
Right they didn't even try to come up with a name, this is just plain lazy. How am I even supposed to give this an honest review this they can't even bother to name their team?

6 - BBL Burros & Tsuki & FlamPoke
F tier name do better, what the hell kind of mascot is supposed to be funny with this name anyways?? This is slightly better than just saying "TBD" though.

5 - Malicious Mimikyus - Jeza.p & OranBerryBlissey10
Once upon a time, alliterations dominated the team name metagame. It even put a lasting impact in SPL and SCL with the Wi-Fi Wolfpack, Stark Sharks, Congegration of the Classiest, and the Showdown Shoguns. But that's old news. Alliterations fell off big time. They're just so agonizingly boring. Usually the Pokemon and manager credentials can carry the junk name because the CA has high aura potential. Not the case this time though. They might have the manger skills, but not the naming skills.

4 - Bibliotheca Blisseys - Miyoko & LBN
Another alliteration but this isn't as bad. Although something about this caught my eye: Are either of these two even Spanish speakers? How does "Library Blisseys" even make sense? Quite the oddity, but it's certainly catchy. I'll let it slide this time.

3 - Golisopod Squad - Oathkeeper & Toxinalpaca
I see what they're doing here, so in certain circles Golisopod is called Godpod. Which would make this the Godpod Squad or the God Squad for short. Makes perfect sense because Oath and Toxin are just the dream team! Nice creativity.

2 - " " - Master Chief & TheFranklin
If a one-liner signup says it all, what does no team name say? Confidence. Master Chief and TheFranklin were all too confident and the lack of a team name is just proof. They don't need to woo the tour hosts with a funny quirky name or something that's so boring to read that tour hosts feel like looking at their managerial qualities is a better option to get through the day. The amount of aura coming off that signup post, just incredible. Tragic that they couldn't make the cut.

1 - Sheistpoleons, Return of the Kek - frankjosh & ASKOV
How do you even compete with this name lol. I don't know if it was a joke signup, probably wasn't hopefully because I would've loved to see this team grace us with their presence. No other team on this list could come close but because they didn't actually get picked to manage, top of runner up will have to do for now.

8 - Zui Zoruas - Howkings & xXcrossbowXx
I'm not going to lie, I don't know what Zui is. I tried looking it up and all I got was the "Zui Desktop Application". Someone clue me in, maybe this is more clever than it looks?

7 - Devious Diancies - Heatranator & Canard
Alliteration...yuck. Diancie is a cool mon tho. Has strong CA aura. Can do a lot with it.

6 - Borussia Donphans - Astro & Ming549
Football sucks and is overrated, maybe call this the Wei Chuan Donphans. I might be interested. Bump this up a rank or two. Baseball is the better sport after all.

5 - Rising Sandstorm - Metallica126 & gulch
This is an interesting gamble for a team name, sand is a fairly notable sight in more recent RU metagames so its still on theme. Definitely a unique team name for sure but they seem to have chosen a flawed mascot. Flygon might be associated with Sandstorms but doesn't actually have the ability Sand Stream. Wouldn't have Hippowdon or Gigalith been more fitting here? They don't want to attempt to make a fire CA with them and just stuck with the safe flygon pick, the cowards. Gonna have to set them to bottom 4 for this.

4 - Magic Guardians - Sneakyplanner & Miyami~~~
A LOT of potential with this name here. It's really just dealers choice for what mon they want to associate with this team and the best thing is, they can all be bangers if you set it up right. Like Rising Sandstorm, its definitely a unique team name format, but Magic Guardians doesn't have any notable flaws even in mascot. Overall just a solid team name.

3 - The Feraliburn - Flabeauf & Nemosse
A strong portmanteau of course. I love Feraligatr so much and Feliburn is a chill bill. But something is just off and it's clear to anyone looking at this team. Feliburn isn't even a manager for The Feraliburn, hell he's not even a manager for any RUCL team! What's even the point man this just makes no sense now! Thankfully the power of the portmanteau keeps this in top 3, but it could've been the best with Feliburn on the team.

2 - 20/20 Virizion - seed & Slikkles
Another powerful name. Puns always get a pass in my book no matter now stupid they are. Now I know what your thinking, "Runo how is this even a stupid pun?" Tragically; "Virizion" is barely close to rhyming with "Vision", it's a mistake that anyone with a Masters in Paronomasiology would've picked up on and rectified and ultimately prevents them from contending with the S rank of the season.

1 - TBD - xcx & ishtar
Really just a peak name no? I understand if others don't get it, you really need to be a well traversed and wise individual to get this. It's a clever secret that only the truly initiated will understand. It stands for "The Brilliant Deoxys". It's like a YBG Don type of thing, which is why it's such a powerful team name that blows all the others out of the water.

Pre-RU tour shoutouts have become a calling of mine and I am continuing that tradition below; if you aren't listed here I probably forgot you or I hate you don't @ me

Evie has had a great RU ssnl run and will obviously get picked up but just wanted to really vouch for her as a premier teammate and player in general, easy SV1/2 candidate for basically any team looking for a smart builder and player
Elec-ant1234 still slots into like SV4/sub for me but this should be their debut RU team tour, good presence in the server and has solid ideas if you can just filter them a bit...
FastCarVroom!!! speaking of debut tours I love vroom, one of the best teammates I've had on this site, excellent player and will absolutely commit to running this BW or ADV pool (great in both) while offering some SV tidbits too
Tsuki will cancer unless you get me and Evie too (not really, but she has been a randbats fiend and has yapped enough with The Jerk to have absorbed basic SV RU knowledge)
Ineros great teammate and fine clicker, draft for vibes and expect them to play well if needed wherever
Lyra one of the most basic pick-me girls on this site but I respect them and they have done more than enough to deserve a legit shot in an RU team tour as a player
Don Bork I borked by not finishing our tutoring (sorry again bro...) but Don showed promise and has played other tours on this site, competent cheap pick that could plug and play
zause okay this kid is hella annoying and won't stop using my name for clout but BUT I do think his play and commitment is worthy of a starting SV slot
Lana RUPL champ, one of my favorite teammates ever, big regret not investing in them on the Cookers, will load whatever you pass and win games
kimer the future of Brazilian RU players or something like that, loved teaming with them in RUGL and know they can play SV at a high level
