So is anyone else really looking forward to the new Sailor Moon anime that's supposed be available for download starting July 2014? Speaking of downloading I'm glad that this is an option because when the original series was airing across Australia we only got to see up to the point when Queen Beryl was defeated which was epic, don't get me wrong. This meant that we missed out on seeing the Outer Soldiers and the Sailor Starlights as well as the amazing Sailor Stars season which was my favorite. So not only will Australians also get to finally watch the entire series from start to finish but it's available to anyone who has a computer! Brilliant!
At this point the producers have been very quiet about the actual storyline so we can only guess what the new anime will be like. However there's been a lot of speculation that the new anime will follow the manga series more than the original series did which kind of had it's own story. Not that it was bad, but it would be nice to see the series in the way that the author had intended it.
Cos there were a lot of changes to the overall story as well as the characters which made the manga series really enjoyable to read. For example in the manga series Sailor Moon is less of a cry baby and doesn't rely on Tuxedo Mask (as much) to rescue her or help her in her battles. Instead she mainly draws extra power from the other sailors. Also many of the characters come from difficult backgrounds which was never touched on in the original series. Look at Saturn for example, in the manga we learn that her mother died in an accident and that shortly afterwards her father become distanced and obsessed by his work. He doesn't care about his daughter at all and is instead more interested in turning her into a half human half robot which he succeeds... and then there's the whole story arch where Saturn's body is taken over by some alien-like creature. The original anime only showed parts of this storyline whilst ignoring the rest. Not to mention that many of the sailors die in the manga for real whereas in original anime all the sailors live.
If the new anime series does follow the original manga then there's also a possibility that the series will show more of the main villains and less of the other villains, remember the monster of the week trope? Yeah so less filler. Also it would be nice if the new anime recognized that Uranus and Neptune were lovers, in fact I would like to see more of them because they were amazing! It will also be cool to see what the graphics will be like.
So what is your opinion on the new series? what do you hope to see?
