With the exceptional value that Ceaseless Edge provides via its entry hazard stacking secondary effect, Hisuian Samurott makes for an excellent dedicated lead, able to consistently get up at least one layer of Spikes and often two before fainting. A myriad of boosts, including near-maximum Attack, Sharpness, and a God's gift of an elevated Attack stat ensure that even while setting up entry hazards, Hisuian Samurott requires genuine effort to respond to from an opponent. Its other three moves are not set dressing either, providing useful mechanisms for Hisuian Samurott to further complicate the attempt to wall it, should it not need to get additional stacks of Spikes up.
More so than whatever is in front of it during those first few turns, Hisuian Samurott as a dedicated lead is primarily countered by entry hazard removal later in the game, once it has done its job and fainted. Gholdeno is a standout partner for Hisuian Samurott, able to prevent nearly every means of entry hazard removal, with other Ghost-types like Pecharunt or Arceus-Ghost doing similar for Rapid Spin. With a relatively low Attack stat of 108, most offensive Gods can donate to Hisuian Samurott, but Arceus formes are particularly useful by giving a small but meaningful boost to a Pokemon unlikely to need to make use of a large donation. While Pokemon like Calyrex-I or Rayquaza can donate higher stats, the lack of access to that slot over the course of a game can make it less motivating to do so.
