Sand Attack! [OU RMT]

Introduction thing

Hello all! First post on RMT so please correct me! This team is a physically based offensive sandstorm team designed to kill before getting killed. I've been playing this team for over a week now and it has gone through many changes, but i think ive taken it as far as i can without recruiting the smogon community. Originally it wasn't intended to be a Sandstorm team, but after much evolution it became one. So without further to do, the team:

The Team

453.png

Lucario (F) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 4 Hp/252 Atk/252 Spd
IVs: 0 Def
Lonely nature (+Atk, -Def)
- Counter
- Close Combat
- Crunch
- Extreeme Speed

Lucario is my countersash lead. He acts as a different sort of anti lead with the different ability to stop anything thats trying to DD or SD, which can cause problems for my team, seeing as it has no walls. If its something I know I can't KO with counter or another move I switch out and save him for later, then he becomes a very effective revenge killer, as he's very resistant to SR and has a priority move. His EV spread is there for obvious reasons, but his IV's aren't the standard 31x6. His defense IV is zero so he can do the max damage with counter. His Lonely nature lowers his defense even more. Over all, hes one of the pokes that is consistantly effective, which is important in a team of sweepers. He almost gaurentees at least one kill.

Kingdra (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 Hp/252 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Substitute
- Outrage
- Waterfall

Ah Kingdra. Where to begin. His main goal is to be an easy to switch in on so many things, and then force out those so many things while I sub or DD. He also counters Latias (after one DD) very well which normally causes problems. After one DD he is faster than many of his counters, and his few weaknesses make him hard to take down from his sweeping throne. He counteracts many of my teams weaknesses while still being able to sweep. Unfortunately he takes the most turns to set up, so leftovers is there so that i can get in as many DD's as possible before I attempt the sweep. He easily counters scarftran which is normally a huge problem for my metagross.

Tyranitar (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sandstream
EVs: 4 Hp/252 Atk/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Pursuit
- Crunch

One of the teams key players! He's very important (obviously) due to his sand stream ability. I usually go to him after every pokemon dies, because he's got tons of coverage, and the earlier i get him in the better. The sandstorm is so very important to my team. It breaks focus sashes, which can stop a sweep cold, and the pesky leftovers get countered by it. Hes my main blissey killer with pursuit, and he destroys any Rotom-H trying to kill my team. Choice Scart T-tar is one of me favoritie setups on any pokemon because its so unexpected. He outspeeds many things with his 331 speed stat. Hes the hit and run kinda guy on my team who can still take a punch.

Metagross (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 4 Hp/252 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Agility
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
- Explosion

Agiligross is the main sweeper of my team. After one agility, his speed stat is a whopping 524, fast enough to outspeed anything unboosted. His typing is inredible, making him easy to get in, and his defense is plentiful so one agility is not hard to get off. I chose T-punch over any of the other punches so i can counter gyarados and other waters that normally cause problems for my team. Meteor Mash is amazing due to its possible +1 attack boost, which makes him nearly unstoppable. The sandstorm is a big part of this guys strategy, as it lets him get those KO's that are just out of reach. Lum berry is there to stop a condition from ruining his sweep.

121.png

Starmie (N/A) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Hydro Pump
- Grass Knot
- Thunderbolt

The main counter to all my counters. He absorbs conditions like burn and poison which don't bother him at all. Grass knot is important to kill bulky waters like Swampert who destroy my team. Recover is to heal off the Sandstorm and Life orb damage, which wear away at him all too quickly. I opted for hydropump over surf, for its ability to OHKO and 2HKO more things. If starmie doesn't kill fast, it dies fast, making Hydro Pump important to his survival. Ice Beam is primarily to hit foes like Gliscor, Flygon, and Salamence that Metagross has trouble with. Being the only pokemon who attacks specially, he is completely necissary for the survival of this team, and serves as Blissey bait for T-tar or Aerodactyl. Overall, a very important player in my team.

Gliscor (M) @ Yache Berry
Ability: Sand Veil
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
EVs: 252 HP/40 Defense/216 Speed
- Roost
- Taunt
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock

This slot was previously filled with Aerodactyl, but due to its fragility, has been replaced. With a Gliscor! This guy has been working wonders. He gives my team a bunch more breathing room with his ability to suck up any non Super Effective physical moves with relative ease. I opted for Yache Berry over Leftovers to counteract his huge weakness to ice, seeing as he already has Roost to heal. Taunt prevents stat raising moves and other such things. Over all, he fits the team very well, as his defense is strong enough to support the team, and Sand Veil works with my sandstorm. A much better replacement for Aerodactyl.

Wrapping up

Well there you have it! Criticism and suggestions welcomed! Im not going to do a team building process thing because it had a hugely long history. Im to lazy to build a threat list so ask me if you have questions. I look forward to comments! Im sorry about the EV's. They are overly simple, and are one thing i need help with, as im not to good at judging how much to give each pokemon.

Tyranitar (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sandstream
EVs: 4 Hp/252 Atk/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Pursuit
- Aqua Tail

Run Crunch over Aqua Tail or Earthquake.

Aerodactyl (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 Hp/252 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Taunt
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock

Aerodactyl is my main revenge killer. Hes super speedy and has great coverage, without the need to set up. He fills out all the holes no one else does. I try to get him out right after T-tar so i can lay some SR down to minimize the opponents switching. Taunt has been a life saver, due to its ability to stop a Cresselia and other similar things cold. He outspeeds everything but a ninjask and electrode, so i have no worries about him going first. He destroys any Infernape I find which are normally very bad for my team. His Life Orb is there so that he can take out the more defensive sweepers easilyer.

This set (and the pokemon in general) is worthless unless it is in the lead position. You don't have a sturdy Stealth Rocker, so I would either replace this with a Swampert or drop Lucario, put this in the lead position and add a Ghost-type as a spin-blocker/generally useful type.

Aerodactyl is already useless outside of the lead position, so I suggest you change it to Gliscor. Gliscor can run an identical set to the one you have and stall-break with Taunt much better.

Gliscor@ Leftovers/Yache Berry
Sand Veil
Impish
252 HP/40 Defense/216 Speed

Roost
Taunt/Stone Edge/Ice Fang/U-Turn
Earthquake
Stealth Rock

There you go. This is the standard Gliscor, but with Taunt over Knock Off. You know the drill, recovery, STAB, entry hazard. Taunt is special because it stops the likes of Hail dead in their tracks and stops set up sweepers like Lucario (not that one would ever come into Gliscor) cold. Move this guy to the lead spot, ditch Aero, and put the standard Lucario in back.

Onto a rate, I think you team has bad synergy issues, three of your mons are weak to Ground, and only one is capable of taking those attacks, but Aero is easily killed by a Stone Edge or Ice Beam. You also are incapable of taking on the Dragon Dancers, such as DD Mence, and DD Gyarados. To solve your problem, I suggest you make Starmie the Scarf Version, with maybe Trick over Recover.

Hope I helped, and Good Luck.

Thank you for your input guys! I took MrIndigo's suggestion and changed AquaTail to Crunch. I had never really used aqua tail, and was having trouble killing Cresseslia with pursuit so that all works out.

Im going to do some testing with your Gliscor idea, i liked the sound of it. I previously had a gliscor, but it had some weird baton passing setup that didn't work. Ive also needed a goto guy when i come across something like Jolteon or similar things.

I think that your suggestion about starmie is a good one. i never actually used recover, so i too shall be testing that.

Thanks for the suggestions and there will soon be changes (probably).

I agree that aero is useless. So here is a poke that can go in his place.

Mamoswine@ Choice Band
adamant 252atk 252speed 6hp
ice schard
earthquake
Stone Edge
Super Power

He is a good mence counter, also he is very powerful with his 130 base attack stat!

Good Luck

Ok updated team. Now has Gliscor who works amazing, and Scarfmie. Lucario is staying my lead for now. He has worked so many times for what i want him to do (which is to kill stuff)

I'd switch Kingdra's ability to sniper, since you'll find that you won't get much use out of swift swim. It will only be helpful if your opponent is running a rain dance team, and even then, Tyranitar's sand stream negates that whenever he switches in.

A real quick rate. Thunderbolt is a better option to have over Grass Knot on Starmie since Gyrados could get annoying like any other bulky water. If your worried about Swampert Surf still does a good amount.

As a response to Shiny missingno, I think ill keep swift swim, for if i get a crit, it usually KO's anyway. T-tar is also dangerous to bring in on a water pokemon.

As a response to rain xspear, Ill try that suggestion out and see how it does.

As always thanks for comments and constructive criticism!

I'm not sure if I just see a different meta, but I don't know many leads where the counter on Lucario will come in handy. There especially aren't any set-up sweepers in the lead position. but I guess your sash breaks later on =\ I think there would be more effective anti-leads.

Just me personally, I'd do Explosion on Gross over T-Punch. WIth Agility you should be able to easily explode before death. Then I'd do T-Bolt over Trick on Starmie.
Gross doesn't like taking DD EQs from Gyara, so you won't ever come in on it. gyara coming in on your gross after agility probably won't happen often.
Starmie should be able to come in on the expected DD. Then finish it or something else off. Trickscarfing is nice, but I've only used to stop Blissyes. I normally actually prefer having the scarf to finish things off.

Your analysis of Kingdra and Tyranitar seem to conflict. Idk it seems wierd.

I also personally wouldn't/don't Yache Berry, but if it works cool.

Sorry I'm not the greatest, but hope I helepd a little.

Thanks Tenken for your foodback! I love the idea of Explosion on metagross that well work very well i think.

Im thinking of switching my lucario to a better antilead that has resistance/immunity to ground. maybe roserade? i might try that.
I hadn't been using trick at all couse i never needed it. and theyed always already switched in on him so id have to swith out then back in to even use it. goodcall.

yache has been very good to me so ill keep it for now :)

can you be more specific on the analyssis of kingdra and tyranitar?
id like to make them as good as possible.
