Hello, I'm new to the forum and I would like you to rate this team I adapted from an old 4th Gen team found on Smogon forums (I don't know how to use images in threads ^^):.
The purpose of the team is to set a whole lot of entry hazards and then stall out everything until it faints in pain and despair.
Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 176HP/128Atk/204Spe
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SpAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Taunt
- Waterfall
- Bounce
My usual lead, Bulky Gyarados comes in play before Hippowdon in order to shut down any Bronzong, Hippowdon and other non-attacking leads and setup with DDance, attempting a sweep. Gastrodon is a pain to this set.
If the opponent sends out him a bulky Electric type (Magnezone, Rotom-W) I switch to...
Hippowdon (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP/170 Def/88 SpDef
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Slack Off
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Whirlwind
Ah, the great, fat Hyppo! At this stage our friend should only set sandstorm, Stealth Rock and, eventually, kill any fire type who dares to oppose the mighty sand setter (*cough*... Ninetails... *cough*). Ideally he switches in on a Thunderbolt/Volt Switch directed at Gyarados. Later on, when all the hazards are on the field, he can play a bit with Whirlwind and his gargantuan bulk.
Forretress @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP/80 Spd/176 Def
IVs: 0 Speed
Relaxed nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Spikes
- Gyro Ball
- Volt Switch
- Rapid Spin
Well, it's a stall/hazard setter team. Forretress is a necessity in order to set up as many spikes as possible while clearing the field from enemy hazards. Payback is here to kill any unexpecting spinblocker who tries to wall me only to find out that Forretress is to hard a nut for him.
Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248HP/8Spe/252SpDef
Calm nature (+SpDef, -Atk)
- Lava Plume
- Toxic
- Protect
- Roar
Next one, defensive Heatran. The pokemon I'm most dubious about. His purpose is to wall fire attacks aimed at Forretress and spread status around (which is useless if Forretress is succesful in setting his Toxic Spikes, which I usually set before normal Spikes). I'm thinking about Chansey, Ferrothorn or Gliscor in his place.
Jellicent @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 248HP/44Spd/216SpDef
Calm nature(+SpDef -Atk)
- Toxic
- Scald
- Recover
- Taunt
My spin blocker and special wall. Jellicent easily walls Water and Fire attacks aimed at Heatran and Forretress respectively and causes switches entry hazards. Electric and grass attacks kill it pretty fast but we have Hippowdon and Forretress/Gyarados to wall those. He's too similar to a water version of Heatran and I'm looking for a better spin blocker in his place. Maybe Rotom-W or Dusclops/Dusknoir?
And now... the star of the set, the unbreakable wall, the mighty root of Mother Earth...
Cradily @ Leftovers
Ability: Suction Cups
EVs: 252 HP/6 Def/252 SDef
Careful nature (+SpDef, -SAtk)
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Curse
- Rock Slide
I know, I know, it's NU and all that stuff. Well, this Cradily has a MONSTROUS special defense in sandstorm, it's impossible to phaze because of Suction Cups and soon becomes impossible to bring down on the physical side too. Oh, and it's immune to status thanks to Rest. Which means that if I menage to kill enemy fighting and bug types, I've practically won. I've already destroyed entire teams with only this guy... ehm... plant.
Of course, Heracross means game over. SDancing Lucario is also a problem.
Any suggestion on how to improve this most annoying team?
