Sand Coffin, SAND BURIAL! - An OU Sand Team

desertfuneral.jpg

Introduction
Hello ALL! My name is Prince of Persian and I would love it if you guys would rate my team. This team was honestly kinda thrown together and for some odd reason, it kinda works. I've always wanted to make a sand team, but every time I tried I was super weak to Conkeldurr and Fairys. This team has that problem, but I have pokes that can answer to them. So...ON TO THE TEAM!!!

I had to start with a sand setter so I chose Hippowdon to start.

I wanted to have Mega Chomp on my team because it really isn't used much in sand and it has excellent wall breaking capabilities especially in the sand. Noticing a huge ice weakness starting to occur, I decided to switch Hippowdon for Tyranitar.

I heard that Tyranitar, Garchomp and Keldeo formed a great core, therefore I added Keldeo.

I then added an Excadrill to combat my huge fair weakness and to abuse it's ability Sand Rush in the sand.

All my pokes were kinda weak to Rotom's and especially WOW, so I added Conkeldurr to act as a status absorder and an absolute monster.

With 4 pokes weak to fairy, I swapped out Keldeo for Azumarill. It also gives me an answer to Conkeldurr and Bisharp.

Most of my pokes were physical, so I added a Landorus to add some special moves to my team, also giving me an answer to Faries and Venusaur.

The Team
tyranitar.jpg

Tyranitar @ Smooth Rock
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 32 Atk / 224 SDef
Sassy Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Pursuit
- Ice Beam
- Fire Blast

Tyranitar has a very important role on this team and that is setting up sand. When the sand is set up, it allows Excadrill to out speed many and Garchomp to completely obliterate walls. Setting up stealth rock is also a nessacary because it breaks focus sashes and allows me to turn 2HKO'S to OHKO'S. Fire Blast is for Skarm, Ferro, and Scizor while Ice Beam hits the genies and grass types. Pursuit is to trap Latis and other Psychics.

mega_garchomp_by_dashinghero-d6m767l.png

Garchomp-Mega @ Garchompite
Ability: Sand Force
EVs: 176 Atk / 252 SAtk / 80 Spd
Naughty Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
- Stone Edge

Mega Garchomp has amazing 170 based Atk and 120 base SAtk, making for a great mixed attacker. Earthquake and Draco Meteor are my main attacking moves, with Fire Blast giving coverage against pokemon like Skarmory and Ferrothorn. I really don't need that much investment in speed because it's usually only here to break walls. Stone Edge is to hit Togekiss and get a sand force boost. This set is absolutely devestating, especially under sand.

excadrill.jpg

Excadrill @ Air Balloon
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Iron Head
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin

This thing is an absolute monster under the sand. It allows me to out speed certain things that think there faster and secure the kill. On top of that, it also is a fairy slayer. Iron Head and Earthquake are my main STAB's. Air Balloon allows me come in on pinsir outside of sand and secure the OHKO with Rock Slide. Even though none of my team has a severe weakness to rocks, I do have rapid spin. I am willing to change that slot for something like Swords Dance maybe. Please give me you thoughts.

conkeldurr.jpg

Conkeldurr @ Assault Vest
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Drain Punch
- Ice Punch
- Mach Punch

As a bulky attacker with access to recovery from drain punch, Conkeldurr makes a great assault vest user. Drain punch for STAB and is chosen over other moves such as Hammer Arm due to drain punch allowing conkeldurr to survive longer. Knock off hits ghosts/psychics that resist drain punch. Ice Punch is for flying types such as Gliscor, Landorus-Therian and Dragonite. Mach Punch is nice priority to help revenge kill Kyurem, Bisharp and other weakened threats. Guts is chosen as the ability as status is pretty common and it allows conkeldurr to not be walled by Rotom-Wash.

azumarill.jpg

Azumarill @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Facade
- Play Rough
- Aqua Jet

With the added Fairy typing, Azumarill can now pose a significant physical threat with a CB. Decent natural bulk allows it to take a hit and OHKO most Pokemon back. Knock Off is to catch those Aegislash and Ferro switchins. Play Rough is of course for a stab move and deals a ton of damage. Aqua Jet is for priority and to pick off weakened for the kill. Now I know what you're thinking, why facade? I saw facade on Azumarill on another RMT and because (if you haven't noticed) most of my pokes don't appreciate status, especially burn. This gives me another status absorber and allows me to hit back with force because Facade ignores the burn attack drop this gen.

landorus.jpg

Landorus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Psychic
- Sludge Wave
- Earth Power

This thing is my added win condition when all else fails. Easily sets up on common Pokemon such as Aegislash, from which point Landorus can demolish weakened teams or at least force the opponent to sack a member before taking it down due to the SpDef boost provided by Calm Mind. Chansey still handles this set unless it is extremely weakened, however the Unaware duo Quagsire and Clefable cannot handle this set due to its coverage and sheer power. Psychic hits Mega Venusaur and Conkeldurr hard while Sludge Wave demolishes fairy types.

Replays
None atm however I will add some

Major Threats
bisharp.gif

Hands down this thing is the number one threat to this team. If he get a Swords Dance boost and he's focus sash, normally I'm done for. That's why its really important that I get rocks up and keep them up.

658.gif

Greninja is a threat because it can do a huge chunk to my team. Conk can usually take him if it doesn't have Extrasensory. Other than that, Azumarill must stay alive to check him.

149_-_dragonite.gif
gyarados-mega.gif
006-mega-x.gif

Dragon Dance users can be a pain because if they set up, they can sweep my team if they out speed Excadrill.

Conclusion
Thank you for looking at my RMT! Any constructive criticism is wanted as long as you aren't a complete douche. Remember I just kinda made this team and I am willing to make necessary changes to make it better!

Hey,

This is a pretty solid team, standard sand offense but you don't see Garchomp too often. Anyway, for the most part I think this team is fine, but there are some issues that can be ironed out. First, Landorus is really redundant as a wallbreaker since you already have Mega Garchomp and as a sweeper since you have Excadrill. It doesn't help against any of the threats you mentioned (except I guess Bisharp, but it's not really a big deal with Conkeldurr on the team). I think you should change Landorus to Thundurus. Like I said, Landorus just seems redundant, whereas Thundurus actually brings something new to the table. It has priority Twave to stop the setup sweepers you have trouble with. It can also help beat opposing Azumarill and Keldeo with Thunderbolt, which as of now pose a huge threat to the rest of the team. Next, I would use Assault Vest Azumarill instead of Choice Band. This should make it easier for you to deal with both Greninja and Keldeo, which can be kind of annoying for your team. I also don't think Facade is necessary since Conkeldurr can already absorb status.

Anyay, I hope I was able to help. Good luck with the team!

Thundurus (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Def
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Nasty Plot
- Thunder Wave

Azumarill @ Assault Vest
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 16 HP / 240 SDef
Serious Nature
- Waterfall
- Play Rough
- Aqua Jet
- Knock Off

I will definitely try thundurus over landorus and see how it goes. Since I am running Thundurus now, should I keep Rapid Spin of Excadrill or maybe switch it to swords dance?
Because Azumarill is a common switch to Keldeo, and Keldeo likes to carry scald, I like to carry facade. However I will try the Assault Vest set and see where it takes me. Thanks for the reply!
