LC Sandshrew-Alola

[SET]

Sweeper (Sandshrew-Alola) @ Eviolite
Ability: Slush Rush
Level: 5
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 36 HP / 236 Atk / 36 Def / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Triple Axel
- Earthquake
- Rapid Spin / Ice Shard
- Swords Dance / Ice Shard

[SET COMMENTS]
Alolan Sandshrew carves out a neat role in LC as both a sweeper and utility Pokemon. Its Ice / Steel typing makes it one of the few reliable Flying-resistant Pokemon in the tier. Triple Axel gives Alolan Sandshrew strong STAB coverage, and Earthquake hits the Fire- and
Steel-types that Triple Axel cannot. Building off of this, Alolan Sandshrew has a few useful options depending on team needs: Rapid Spin provides entry hazard control while making it faster than the entire unboosted metagame, Swords Dance allows it to sweep late-game, and Ice Shard picks off weakened threats like Vullaby. Tera Fairy is preferred because it flips the script on Fighting- and Dark-types like Mienfoo and Vullaby, letting Alolan Sandshrew stay in where it normally couldn’t. Alolan Sandshrew also has the option to run Safety Goggles to shut down Spore from opposing Foongus and set up on it.

Alolan Sandshrew shines against Ground-, Grass-, and Flying-types, often forcing awkward Terastallizations like Water and Steel from staples like Foongus, Mudbray, and Mienfoo. This opens the door for teammates such as Elekid and Alolan Diglett to make progress. Pokemon that appreciate Rapid Spin support, such as Wingull and Vullaby, also pair very well with Alolan Sandshrew. On the flip side, Alolan Sandshrew really struggles with Mienfoo, Ground-types like Alolan Diglett and Mudbray, and uncommon coverage like Heat Wave from Vullaby. Pairing it with reliable checks to these threats such as Foongus, Grookey, and Chinchou helps cover those weaknesses and gives it the breathing room it needs to do its job.

Sandshrew-Alola Alolan Sandshrew carves out a neat role in LC as both a sweeper and utility mon Pokemon. Having Ice/Steel typing makes it one of the few reliable Flying resists in the tier, while Ice itself is a scary offensive type that punishes a lot of common switch-ins. Triple Axel and Earthquake give it strong STAB coverage (Rework this part of the sentence a little as EQ isn't STAB, mention how earthquake is good coverage that hits what ice can't.), and building off of those it has a few useful options depending on team needs: Swords Dance to boost attack Attack by 2 stages and sweep late-game, Rapid Spin for entry hazard control while pushing its Speed to 21 which makes it faster than the entire unboosted metagame, or Ice Shard to pick off weakened threats like Vullaby. Tera Fairy is preferred because it flips the script on Fighting- (add hyphen) and Dark-types like Mienfoo and Vullaby, letting Alolan Sandshrew stay in where it normally couldn’t. It also has the option of being paired with Snover for hail support, doubling its speed with Slush Rush and turning it into a very dangerous cleaner. (Not really worth talking about, snow strats are niche at best)

Sandshrew-Alola Alolan Sandshrew shines against Ground-, Grass- (add hyphens), and Flying-types, often forcing awkward Teras Terastallizations like water and steel Water and Steel from staples like Foongus, (ac) or Mudbray, (ac) or even Mienfoo. This opens the door for teammates such as Elekid or Alolan Diglett, who love to punish aforementioned mons. On the flip side, it really struggles with Mienfoo, Grounds Ground-types like Alolan Diglett and Mudbray, Water types (while true, shellos is bad now and mare is scared of eq so the other examples are better) and tech coverage like Heat Wave Vullaby. Pairing it with reliable Water and Electric-types checks to these threats such as Chinchou, Foongus or Elekid Foongus, Grookey, or Chinchou helps cover those weaknesses and gives Sandshrew the breathing room to do its job. (I'd also mention Pokemon that appreciate rapid spin support somewhere in here like wingull and vullaby, best place to put it would before the "On the flip side," sentence)
