SandStorm for Snobs

TyranitarShinySprite.gif

Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Substitute
- Focus Punch

This is the standard bulky Tyranitar. It sets up stealth rock and switches into weak Special attacks, firing back with stone edge. Focus Punch is sort of thrown in for fun. A good predict can land you 60% on Ferrothorn for free. The lack of speed is to ensure SS is the dominant form of weather.

TentacruelNormalSprite.gif

Tentacruel (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP / 20 SAtk / 96 SDef / 140 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Toxic Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Hidden Power [Flying]

Tentacruel is the main Spinner of Gen 5.This guy is just great at eating special hits and blowing away entry hazards. Indeed Hp Flying is odd, however with some of the more annoying Fighting types it can be a nice surprise (after they have been passively damaged).

cofagrigus.png

Cofagrigus (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Mummy
EVs: 252 HP / 136 Def / 120 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Will-O-Wisp
- Night Shade
- Rest
- Haze
Cofagrigus has truly been a great help. In this fairly offensive gen something that can tank a hit from almost anything is a definite plus. WOW disturbs all of the Physical attackers that would seriously ruin my team.

th_Jirachi.gif

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SAtk
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Flash Cannon
- Thunderbolt
- Calm Mind
- Substitute

This Jirachi is a blast from the past. It is the quintessential answer to Ferrothorn and all other stall Pokemon. Come in, sub up, CM, and proceed to watch the opposition squirm. I’ve actually been a bit undecided about whether to use Psychic or Flash Cannon.

560_scrafty_front_norm.png

Scrafty (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Shed Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Drain Punch
- Rest
- Payback
- Bulk Up

This guy just pisses off a lot of the annoying psychics out there (I’m looking at you Sigilyph). It is also so bulky that it can even tank fighting attacks to a moderate extent.

477.png

Gliscor (M) @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 184 Def / 72 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Protect
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
- Swords Dance

The Demon Bat is a very scary opponent. Aside from disarming most dragons and stopping Breloom in its tracks it just generally owns. It’s a great option to stall when something is poisoned or burned and creates a bunch of pressure with Sword Dance.

On the whole I’ve been fairly successful with this team. It isn’t extremely weak to anything, though it does have its problems with certain things (SpA oriented Dragons) it is usually capable of maneuvering past its weaknesses with prediction. The main goal of this team was to create a Sandstorm team without the pathetically cheesy nucleus of Tyranitar/Excadrill/Garchomp. I wanted an SS team that gives the impression “Oh that was a Sandstorm team?” I think for the most part I’ve been successful. This team takes advantage of the overly offensive nature of this gen and manages to make opponents uncomfortable by extracting bits of damage here and there until the opposition in drained.

Perhaps the main critique will be about the triple Ground weak on this team. It is indeed an issue however, I haven't had too many problems with it.

Psychic gives you more coverage than flashcannon. Although its still not great.

Not really. Unless you are facing a pure electric type (you can generally set up on these, unless it's a Raikou who can boost up alongside you), Flash Cannon provides superior coverage, letting you hit things like Tyranitar and Lati@s for a good chunk of damage.

I'll edit in the rest of my comments later.

If you're going to run calm mind and bulk up it's probably worth spending EVs on the defensive stat you're not boosting. That way you can stay in on both types of attackers for longer, which is what you really should be shooting for with a boosting tank.

Hello,
1) First and for all, how aren't you running an Excadrill on a Sandstorm team? Excadrill is such a major threat you can't simply neglect. I recommend this over Cofagrigus:
Spr_5b_530.png
@Air Balloon
252Atk/6Def/252Spe
Adamant nature, Sand Rush trait
~Swords Dance
~Earthquake
~Rock Slide
~X-Scissor

2) Focus Punch on leadTar is pointless, if you stick physical try SR/SE/Superpower/Crunch or Pursuit for lead Azelf.
3) If Ground Pokemon give you trouble, replace Jirachi for this:
Spr_5b_380.png
@Leftovers
252HO/4SpA/252Spe
Timid nature
~Reflect
~Wish
~Thunder Wave
~Dragon Pulse

4) Bulk Up Scrafty should have 252HP/4Atk/252SpD, Careful, and switch to an Impish nature on Gliscor.
5) Ice Beam>HP Flying on Tentacruel.
