ability: Sturdy
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Choice Band Sawk is an incredibly potent wallbreaker with a fairly limited pool of reliable switch-ins. Close Combat can easily 2HKO non-resistant physical walls like Sandaconda, Eldegoss, and Quagsire, and its coverage lets it cover for other possible switch-ins. Knock Off targets Cofagrigus and other Ghost-types like Gourgeist-S and Gourgeist-XL; it also has the added benefit of removing items from checks like Rotom-S and Garbodor and being harder to punish than Close Combat. Earthquake heavily punishes Poison-types like Garbodor, Silvally-Poison, and Qwilfish. Ice Punch has generally good neutral coverage, hitting a wide range of potential switch-ins like Rotom-S, Gourgeist-S, and Golurk, although Poison Jab is Sawk's best way of damaging Fairy-types. Sturdy is situational, but it helps Sawk revenge kill faster threats like Silvally-Dark and Choice Scarf Indeedee-F and prevents Sawk from being revenge killed itself.

Choice Band Sawk is greatly appreciated by late-game cleaners like Swords Dance Silvally formes, Choice Scarf Togedemaru, and Swords Dance Toxicroak because of how effective it is at opening holes in the opposing team. Toxicroak in particular is an excellent partner because it benefits hugely from Cofagrigus and Rotom-S being heavily chipped or removed. Faster Flying-types like Rotom-S and Unfezant can give Sawk problems, so checks to them, such as Togedemaru, Lanturn, and Galarian Stunfisk, are good partners. Because Sawk wants to spam Close Combat as much as possible, other Pokemon that can help get rid of Ghost-types, such as Silvally-Dark, Skuntank, and Drampa, work well alongside it. Entry hazard removal from Pokemon like Silvally-Water and Rotom-S helps to ensure Sawk's Sturdy remains intact, which makes it a much more potent wallbreaker.

[SET COMMENTS]
Choice Scarf Sawk sacrifices some wallbreaking potential for improved revenge killing possibilities, taking advantage of the increase in Speed to reliably threaten foes like Rotom-F, Choice Specs Indeedee-F, and non-Choice Scarf Toxicroak. Knock Off provides great utility in targeting Ghost-types such as Cofagrigus and Gourgeist-S and removing items from switch-ins like Garbodor, Rotom-S, Clefairy, and Sandaconda. Earthquake hits Poison-types like Garbodor, Qwilfish, and Silvally-Poison. Ice Punch covers several possible switch-ins to Sawk, including Rotom-S, Gourgeist-S, and Golurk. Alternatively, Poison Jab lets Sawk more reliably threaten Fairy-types such as Clefairy and Alcremie. Toxic is also an option in the last moveslot as a means to punish Cofagrigus better than any of Sawk's other moves. Although a Jolly nature is preferred so Sawk can at worst Speed tie with Choice Scarf Toxicroak and Indeedee-F, Adamant provides enough of a damage boost to always 2HKO Black Sludge Garbodor with Earthquake. Sturdy is helpful for letting Sawk revenge kill even faster foes like +1 Silvally-Dark.

Despite having coverage moves for Fighting-resistant foes, Sawk can sometimes struggle to make headway against Pokemon like Cofagrigus, Rotom-S, and Garbodor. Many special wallbreakers, including Drampa, Abomasnow, and Rotom-F, are capable of beating such foes and enabling Sawk to freely use Close Combat. In return, Sawk can help weaken special walls like Galarian Stunfisk and Clefairy. Similarly, because many of Sawk's checks lack reliable recovery, entry hazards from Pokemon like Garbodor, Sandaconda, and Piloswine are helpful to have so Sawk has greater odds of cleaning late-game.

I'd argue a small mention of entry hazard removal because of how dumb sturdy CB is.
