We believe we are less than a few hours away from the release time of The Teal Mask part of the DLC for Scarlet and Violet! As many of you have seen from information elsewhere, it seems there are around 100 Pokémon being added to the game and a brand new location!

This thread is to discuss your findings and story related segments of The Teal Mask. If anyone finds out some interesting quirks of new abilities or mons post it here!

There will likely also be datamines before I wake up, so there might be a lot to discuss! I'll add these to the OP when I find them (unless an SS member wants to edit them in themselves).

Ogerpon. It’s just a cute little guy under the mask(s), and I like that. Going to speedrun the DLC when it drops tonight so I can get mine ASAP.

Outside of that, Dripplin’s cute, Raging Bolt is a long fellow and I like it better than Walking Wake, and I don’t really feel much either way on the rest of ‘em.

I’ll be up for the datamine (and the DLC in general, 9 EST can’t come soon enough), can’t wait to see the new TMs! And whether Umbreon got Toxic back!

This might be one of my ultra spicy takes, but for me it's gotta be d(r)ipplin. Idk why, I just rly liked applin in the first place, so having a caramel version of them is rly neat! I also don't rly mind them being similar to the og (just like dudunsparce).

I also enjoy both of the dlc's mascots, they're so much better than gen 8's but idk how or why I think so...
 
I'm really looking forward to see how orgerpon works exactly, it seems like an interesting concept mon with the potential to be good in both official and smogon tiers thanks to its stats & typing options

I'm most curious to see what the typing actually is

Hell we don't even know if it goes dual type; for all we know it's mono-type and that's all that changes based on the mask!
 
Yeah they do this with all the major updates to their games, not just Pokemon

It's silly but it makes sense to stick with a given date instead of the truth which is "tomorrow" in some countries and "tonight" in others and even "today" in others still


Also a final story prediction: We won't get access to the Teal Mask Ogrepon in this DLC. After we knock it off Ogerpon in our battle, Briar will take it to study (or perhaps "study", in scare quotes oohhhh!!!) the terastalization phenomenon, and we'll get proper access to it after our final trek into Area Zero (alongside Terastal Form Terapagos)


I'm also curious to when in the DLC we'll be able to get any of the Loyal 3 or Ogrepon. SWSH was very...interesting, in that all of its legendary Pokemon aside from Kubfu/Urshifu were designed as either explicitly post game (the wolves, calyrex, the horses, the musketeers) or late game/effectively post game (eternatus you get before the final battle, the birds & regi are at such high levels that you effectively can only catch them at minimum after beating Raihan and Crown Tundra as a whole is definitely meant as a "post game" type section anyway).
SV tucks the Ruinous Legends to end game due to their levels & stake locations (so you likely need to finish all 3 stories for various reasons either to access their stakes or ungate the level capture mechanic). So maybe they do the same here?

  • You will now be able lock the mini map that appears while you are out in the field so that up is always north. You can do this by pressing the Right Stick twice while you have the map app open to select the App and mini maps locked setting.
  • Camera settings have been added to the Options menu. These settings will let you adjust how the camera works while you are out in the field.
  • We have added a feature that allows you to signal a Pokémon accompanying you in the field to stop and wait where it is. To give this signal, press the Left Stick.
  • You can now take pictures by pressing the A Button in the camera app.
  • You can now play music by pressing the ZL Button or ZR Button while the camera app is open. You may find that Pokémon accompanying you in the field and people around you will react to the music.
  • While using the Union Circle, Trainers can now share photos they have taken with the camera app during that Union Circle session with the friends they are playing with.
  • We have added a feature to TM Machines that allows you to filter for moves your Pokémon can learn. By interacting with a TM Machine and selecting the option to filter for learnable moves, you will be able to display only TMs containing moves that a specific Pokémon can learn.
  • Gave Tyranitar the move Pursuit (/joke)
 
They finally stopped beating around the bush and have explitiyl referred to Kitakami as a "region", which I think is pretty interesting since the marketing just avoided it alltogether. Maybe they thought it'd set different expectations? Still uses the Paldea mark, though.

The Map seems pretty big though there's some slightly different scale. Pretty neat!
