Scrafty (Amnesia/Bulk Up)

560.png

[Overview]
- DDance and Bulk Up sets popular due to boosting Attack on top of other stat
- Scrafty learns Amnesia, which is extremely underrated
- Dual Fighting/Dark STAB unresisted, therefore no need for extra coverage move
- Base 115 Defences to abuse Def. and Sp.Def boosts
- Drain Punch for recovery, Shed Skin for status
- Deserves mention for being able to singlehandedly raze teams in late-game sweeps

[SET]
Name: Wall
Move 1: Bulk Up
Move 2: Amnesia
Move 3: Drain Punch
Move 4: Crunch/Ice Punch
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Shed Skin
Nature: Impish
EVs: 252 HP / 136 Def / 120 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

- With both defences being boosted, Scrafty's natural bulk can be abused
- Amnesia or Bulk Up according to opponents team (specially or physically based)
- With Amnesia netting +2 SpD and Bulk Up +1 Atk +1 Def, usually better to Bulk Up once, Amnesia, Bulk Up again since Scrafty has 2 weaknesses that are both physical based (Fighting and Flying)
- After setting up 2 Amnesias and 3-4 Bulk Ups, literally unstoppable (save phazers)
- Again, Shed Skin for status removal and leftovers for constant recovery to help wall attempted attacks

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

- Impish nature chosen to boost Def, because majority of fighting/flying attacks are physical
- EVs are balanced with a little more in Def to provide extra bulk against physical attacks
- No EVs in Atk because Bulk Up boosts that
- Recommended that Phazers and Taunters be removed prior to setup (just like other setup pokes)
- Also nice to have Dual Screens upon entrance for Scrafty in order to tank a few hits while setting up
- Avoid priority pokes as much as possible before setting up (lucario, conk, infernape etc.)

[COUNTERS]
- Powerful fighting STAB (subpunch breloom, drain/mach punch conkeldurr, close combat terrakion)
- Phazers: Skarm
- #1 Counter is Skarm because of massive Def, brave bird and whirlwind

I can't really say what's wrong / going on with it due to my lack of experience with this thing, but I'm pretty sure everybody who's used a Scrafty would like to see the viability of Amnesia. Perhaps you can back this up with logs (no cheerypicking)? My urgent opinion of this is that Specially Defensive Bulk Up Scrafty already so much special attacks as it is.

I can't find these logs anywhere, but to the cynics out there, the best thing I can say about this Scrafty is its surprise factor. Feigning Bulk Ups to lure out special attackers then using Amnesia to wall them is extremely effective in my opinion, but unfortunately I don't think i have the credibility as of yet, merely to vouch for this set.

Isn't bulk up scrafty on site? If so, Amnesia could just go in OO as an alternative to Rest/Ice Punch. A wall that relies on boosting moves and drain punch for recovery doesn't sound ideal to me...

Scrafty is a very slow Pokemon, so no one will be using a priority attack when attempting to beat it. Lucario and Conkeldurr will just use Close Combat and Drain Punch respectively (Conkeldurr will most likely try to set up on you and Drain Punch afterward), Scizor and Azumarill have Superpower to deal with it, Dragonite will maul you with Outrage, etc. Remove all mentions of it.

In place of that, I would recommend Ice Punch get a slash with Crunch. It cuts down on a lot of his counters (Gliscor, Dragonite, Landorus, things with wings) and most Psychic/Ghost-types won't stop him regardless. If you do, make special mention of Scarf Tyranitar for SubDisable Gengar, Mew, and Jellicent, all of which can beat you once they've scouted your set.

Thanks SJ for the tips

badabing, BulkUp/Amnesia Scrafty operates differently than BulkUp/Rest so i think it deserves an alternate set mention

At this point, I'm not seeing it. ShedRest is what makes Bulk Up Scrafty so hard to take down, and Drain Punch doesn't fill the void.

I think that, for this to be accepted, you'd have to give examples of situations where Amnesia allows Scrafty to beat powerful special attackers that would otherwise beat it, and do so consistently.

I hope that I'm not necro-posting or anything... But I realized that Amnesia Scrafty could fit well into my team, so I ran a few tests tonight.

This first battle features Scrafty coming in at Turn 17. In my opinion, this Scrafty works pretty well late-game when its chief opponents are down for the count. He also needs a bit of support; I chose to run Encore support. At the end of the day, he managed to take down Reuniclus and Rotom-W by himself, which is rather impressive. Sorry for my misplays (and my opponent's).

This second battle featured Scrafty barely surviving at the end of things. My opponent was running a weird Gengar set that lacked Focus Blast (which I didn't know until the turn he used Thunderbolt). Again, I'm sorry for my misplays (my team is a bit wonky). But in the end (starting at Turn 22), Scrafty pulled out a victory against Mach Punch Hitmontop (!), Dragonite (!!!) (Remember Scrafty lacks Ice Punch), Gengar, and Espeon. It's pretty cool stuff.

Again, sorry if these battles aren't the best examples of Amnesia Scrafty. These were just two random logs that featured said Scrafty. If you guys want me to pull up more logs I can try my best! I really think this thing can get cooking with some prediction and is a worthy set to be on site.

Just a nitpick; Dark/Fighting is resisted by two Pokemon: Toxicroak and Heracross.

Birkal I watched those 2 replays and I have to say that on the first one you were better off with a DD Scrafty because it would still sweep and on the second one your opponent had the win but he decided to let you Encore Gengar AGAIN and thus let you set up so it isn't a good example.

I still think this set isn't good enough to be on the analysis.

I really don't think this set deserves reasoning for why it's being rejected, but Scrafty just doesn't have time to boost both its Defense and Special Defense on the same set, and the healing from Drain Punch just isn't enough to offset this.

QC Rejected (1/3)

I'm open to adding Amnesia to other options though, as Scrafty does have that nifty pseudo-immunity to status.

I'm not really a fan of running double defensive boosters. (Amnesia / Iron Defense Registeel popped up in the past) but i'm not opposed to adding Amnesia as an option the bulk up set. I gave this set a shot on the ladder, but I was typically boosting with Bulk up (I never had time for both)

QC REJECTED (2/3)

QC REJECTED (3/3)

This set is "okay" in theory, but its mono coverage is pretty poor, and Amnesia just isn't worth it. It takes too long to get scary, and for not enough payoff.

Better luck next time.
