Scrafty & Friends

Now that I've reached 1425 on the RU ladder I've decided to retire this specific RU team. This team has become more of an offensive type, however I've found ways to implement more support such as defensive Flygon which you can read about farther down. When using the team you must keep in mind that the momentum must be on your side most of the battle in order to get the most out of it. This is one of the first teams that I'm proud to show off, and has allowed me to pass several milestones on the RU ladder. I hope you enjoy!

Scrafty @ Lum Berry
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Drain Punch
- IcePunch/Crunch
- Substitute

Scrafty, the star of the show. I found that once I hit 1300 on the RU ladder I was seeing Scrafty more and more. So I figured I should build a team around it. On this team Scrafty is pretty self-explanatory, it's a full on sweeper. I've found myself winning several battles easily because of how naturally bulky it is, and the fact that it can destroy worlds with Dragon Dance makes it that much better. Substitute is a move I strapped onto Scrafty because I find a lot of people either attempting to status it, or switching out allowing me to get up a substitute. Ice Punch is specifically for Togetic, a major threat to Scrafty. It can be replaced by Crunch for the obvious stab, and allowing it to hit Jellicent. Next I decided to go with Moxie + Lum Berry. Moxie allows me to gain more attack without having to set up more DD's.

Jolteon @ Life Orb
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hidden Power [Water]
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball

Jolteon is a standard special attacker. I usually use it to scout for what people are leading with. HP Water is for the occasional Camerupt and Rhyperior that I can catch on the switch in, when people are predicting the obvious Volt Switch. I feel like Jolteon was a solid addition because it is an astounding revenge killer, which is what this team needs due to the fact that it requires you to have a lot of momentum on your side.

Flygon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- Crunch
- U-turn

Flygon @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Roost
- Defog
- Dragon Tail
- U-turn

Here are two possible Flygon sets. It all depends on how you want to play this team. Personally, I love this team because of how offensive it is. If you feel the same than the offensive set will be just right, however if you would like to prevent hazards and have a nice defensive support Pokemon, go with the second set. I've tested several Pokemon for this slot, including Choice Banded Braviery. I've found that Flygon works well as a revenge killer. It works well with Jolteon as well, creating that Volt-Turn type of core. More importantly, it keeps the momentum on my side.

Amoonguss @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Spore
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Clear Smog

Amoonguss is a Pokemon that I use on a few of my RU teams. I find it being a very good wall, and Regenerator makes it that much better. In some cases, spore allows me to get a switch in and a free substitute with Scrafty. Clear Smog is a nice addition, allowing it to threaten certain set-up Pokemon.

Alomomola @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Wish
- Toxic
- Protect
- Scald

Alomomola is here for obvious reasons. This is because I decided to go with the standard Regenerator core. It works well with this team and is a great switch in for a lot of offensive Pokemon that threaten Scrafty, such as Mach Punch Hitmontop and Scarfed Medicham. It is also a great wish passer for Meloetta and Scrafty.

Meloetta @ Assault Vest
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Psyshock
- Dazzling Gleam
- Energy Ball

I've been testing several Pokemon for this slot such as Calm Mind Delphox. However, I am still finding it a great Pokemon for this team because it's an easy switch in to specially offensive threats. Because Meloetta has such a great special attack and defense stat it makes it a serious threat when running Assault Vest because of the natural bulk and huge offense.

scrafty / mola / amoong / jolt / flygon / melo

Hi there. This is a fairly solid team, and I like the concept of mola offense. However, using mola does create a lot of issues for an offensive team and this team currently doesn't really deal with them. Scrafty becomes a major annoyance as it can set-up all over mola and you don't really have an answer to it. Jolteon can sort of revenge it but currently it's a major issue for you. Pkmn like tyrantrum also seem very troublesome, as you're only rock resist if flygon. The scarf set gets 2hko'd by head smash and you're defensive spread isn't fast enough to deal with banded t-rex anyway. Scrafty and tyrantrum are both huge threats so I feel you need a more solid way of dealing with them.

To help with these two(and other pkmn like opposing exploud, which you also struggle with) I recommend running tangrowth over amoonguss and steelix over jolteon. Tangrowth is much better at dealing with the likes of scrafty thanks to it's access to focus blast to scare it out. You maintain the regen core that you wanted and get to keep the nice synergy of mola + grass type. Growth is also more offensive than amoonguss and gives you a good way to bust through fat cores with a LO leaf storm, but you can also go more defensive. Mega steelix on the other hand gives you a much needed answer to strong psychics and exploud that currently give this team a very hard time - you rely so much on mola and amoong as the defensive backbone that any pkmn that beats this duo often threatens the whole team. A bulky spdef spread also helps cover the now larger weakness to jolteon with tangy > amoong. You lose out on jolteon's 130 base speed and cleaning ability which is annoying, but I feel mega lix is needed here as you are very weak to tyrantrum and exploud - they both 2hko something every time they come in.

Those two fix up the big holes in the team, but there are other issues. Your spreads and movesets are often suboptimal. On mola, you should be running e 120 hp / 252 def / 136 spdef w/ bold. Running max hp is simply inefficient as you take only slightly less damage from physical moves - 252 Atk Choice Band Flygon Outrage vs. 120 HP / 252+ Def Alomomola: 204-241 (40.7 - 48.1%), 252 Atk Choice Band Flygon Outrage vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Alomomola: 204-241 (38.2 - 45.1%). There's very little in it and it's therefore better to move it to spdef to make mola able to handle houndoom, delphox etc. better. On scrafty, a jolly nature is better as this way you get the jump on mglalie, virizion and durant at +1 as well as modest exploud with no boosts. These are all major threats that you want to be outspeeding. I feel as though hjk is better than drain punch for the extra power boost, and that shed skin w/ chople berry is better on this team than lum and moxie. With chople berry, scrafty can act as a makeshift against things like subcm meloetta as you can take a focus blast and then use knock off which is better than crunch for the power boost with an item and the ability to remove items. I'd also recommend iron head or poison jab over ice punch, as these moves allow you to beat bulky fairies in the long run giving you a good stall breaker(stealth rock + knock off and roar on steelix makes wearing down aromatisse / togetic ez). Substitute isn't necessary because you have shed skin for status anyway. On flygon, I'd go with scarf as a catch all revenge killer, but a bulky spdef spread helps with houndoom and provides a more reliable defog. This is entirely preference, but a spread of 252 hp / 116 def / 116 spdef / 24 speed gives you the jump on band t-rex and enough bulk to deal with houndoom. If you want to keep the squad more offensive then scarf is obviously still good but go jolly for revenging a +2 scrafty.

As for the melo slot, I'd try out sigilyph over meloetta as it gives you a much need fighting resist. Between sigi, tangy and a phys def mola you should be okay vs. fighting types. CM + roost is nice for stall breaking but sets like psycho shift + cm + air slash are fun as well, and you can always use 3 attacks + roost if you don't want to increase the houndoom weakness. Melo still works but I'd run a faster spread as otherwise hitmonlee becomes a real pain to deal with.

I realise that there are a huge amount of changes here but I tried to keep as close to the original idea of regen core offense as possible. Here is a list of changes and the sets.

Scrafty @ Chople Berry
Ability: Shed Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- High Jump Kick
- Knock Off
- Dragon Dance
- Iron Head

This is my favourite set, scrafty is incredibly customizable so play around with it.

Mola: 120 hp / 252 def / 136 spdef with a bold nature

Amoonguss --> tangrowth, either full phys def spread or an offensive set with LO (both are onsite btw)

Jolteon: --> mega steelix

Meloetta: --> sigilyph, if not try running enough speed for hitmonlee and either specs or life orb / colbur calm mind, 232 speed should do it iirc

Flygon: scarf works but run jolly for +2 scrafty and also either iron tail or defog over crunch as crunch hits nothing. Alternatively this set might work
Flygon @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 116 Def / 116 SpD / 24 Spe
Careful Nature
- Roost
- Earthquake
- Defog
- Toxic / U-turn

GL with the team and I hope I helped.

This team has an incredibly bad case of "5 guys and" syndrome.

5 guys dead to BU braviary and a half assed check.
5 guys dead to rantrum and a check.
5 guys dead to exploud and a check.
5 guys and etc etc etc every single big threat including opposing scraftys

This, combined with a pretty hefty lack of knowledge of how pokemanz work as a game as demonstrated by your set commentary (ahahahahaha "offense") and the general unfixable nature of this team leads me to this...

I mean if you had the patience to hit 1425 with this on ru's completely dead ladder congratulations, here's your masochism badge.

Hi Herbie2, nice team you've got there but i noticed some flaws. First on Scrafty you should run a Jolly Nature over Adamant and change the moveset to High Jump Kick | Knock Off | Dragon Dance | Iron Head/Iron Tail, also running Chople/Roseli Berry over Lum Berry will allow you to setup or not getting revengekiled by fight or weak fairy types. The boosted nature will allow you to outspeed base 110 mon, that could revenge kill you if you were Adamant. The moves are for having more power as possible because without adamant nature scrafty will be weaker. On Jolteon Choice Specs over Life Orb will give you more power and since it has to pivot many times during the battles not having the LO recoil can be really useful for him, also Signal Beam over Shadow Ball will allow you to hit Meloetta and Tangrowth harder. Now I noticed that your team miss a stealth rock user and a fairy check, so going for Mega Steelix over Flygon can fit your team very well. On Amoonguss a spread of 248 HP / 160 Def / 100 SpDef alongside a Bold Nature will allow you to check many threat in a easier way, also Stun Spore over Clear Smog will allow you to cripple fire switchins when you sleeped a mon. On Alomomola as ss234 suggested a spread of 120 HP / 252 Def / 136 SpDef will allow mola to perfmorm his role better. My last suggestion is Scarf Delphox over Meloetta, this will allow you to have a good revengekiller to things like Scrafty or Durant that can make problem to your team, it's also a good cleaner and it complete the FWG core.

Steelix (M) @ Steelixite
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 248 HP / 204 Atk / 56 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Heavy Slam
- Toxic

I hope i was useful n_n
