Sign up Deadline: January 14th

Building Deadline: January 31st

Welcome to UU's Secret Santa! Now that the beta list is out, teams will be better than waiting mid alpha and rendered useless.

As most of you probably know, Secret Santa is an event in which the members of a community anonymously exchange gifts between themselves. In this particular Secret Santa, which, deep down, will work similarly to a teambuilding workshop, each person who signs up will PM me with a Pokemon or a core (I'll provide more information on this below) they'd like someone else to build a team with. Afterwards, everyone who joined the project will receive one of the aforementioned ideas and will have to build a team with it until the submission deadline. Finally, the teams will be sent to the people who requested them and this thread will be used for further discussion. Easy, isn't it? Let's get to the rules then!

General Rules:
  • Post "in" or whatever else you want to (as long as the intent is clear) to join.
  • Don't sign up if you can't guarantee that you'll be able to finish building a team in time. I'll try to keep tabs on everyone and help if needed, but depending on the amount of sign ups we get, it could be hard to do this.
  • Avoid telling people what request you sent/got, as it could ruin the project's purpose.
Submission Rules:
  • Each request submission should be sent to me through Smogon PM. You don't need to do it right after signing up, but if you fail to do it until the deadline then your sign up will be void.
  • Requests will be looked at on a case by case basis. It is preferred that requests are kept viable, but if you really want a team with an unranked/seemingly unviable Pokemon then you can try your luck.
  • Cores are usually preferred over individual Pokemon (i.e. Ninetales + Shiftry over just Shiftry) unless one of the Pokemon is known to be hard to build around or straight up uncommon (such as Rillaboom or Morpeko). Once again, this will be looked into on a case by case basis, and while I might not directly enforce anything, I could end up suggesting changes.
  • If you want your requested Pokemon or core to have specific sets, you're allowed to mention it.
  • After sign ups close, I'll use the same PM each user sent with their request in order to let them know the Pokemon or core that was assigned to them.
  • If the suggestion is invalidated by tiering decisions during the beta then you will be prompted to send a new one and disqualified if you do not send another one.
  • Once you're done building, post the team you made on the thread and share the gift!
Recommendations:
  • Don't be afraid to join just because you feel like your teambuilding skills aren't on par. I'm down to help everyone who feels this way (or even if you're just having a hard time finishing a team. It happens to everyone sometimes!)
  • You're allowed to change requests until the sign up deadline, but avoid doing it if possible, as it could lead the host into making big mistakes.
  • Have fun!

Happy New Year and good luck!

Crawdaunt, Gengar, and Obstagoon just got banned! Requests are due here soon. If you requested them I hope you can still find Pokémon you’d love to receive a team built around and change your wish!

I'm going to kick this off, here is your team gum (Actually the best user on this site) around the core of LO Sigilyph and Rhyperior. I went through a few iterations before coming to the final team shown below. The Milotic and Vaporeon versions aren't that bad tbh but I found the final version has a moderately better matchup against stuff like Chandelure and Mamoswine, which I value more given the core and not running a Shadow Ball resist or immunity. It also had a better matchup against Umbreon, which Sigilyph just can't break.

I went for a 3 Atk set, as I have found CM sets to be pretty underwhelming personally, but the sets can be interchangeable here if you wish to try it out. I opted for Air Slash over Psychic as I am an advocate of the Pangoro wave and Energy Ball is coverage for Rhyperior and the bulky Water-types. Standard Rhyperior set but I opted for Protect in the last slot as it helps a lot when scouting against choice locked Sirfetch'd, Pangoro, Inteleon etc. The former being pretty important given these Fighting resists don't want to hard into a Knock Off or Brave Bird. So this core literally loses to Rotom-C if it is Scarf, which is why I opted for Roserade next. Roserade helps break apart the bulky Ground- and Water-types and Toxic Spikes helps wear stuff down. Mantine was added because the offensive Ice-types screw over the current members, bar Rhyperior being able to tank one hit from Mamoswine and Weavile. Mantine can check both and is a good response to offensive Ghost-types like Chandelure and Doublade. Passimian was added for Speed control and pressures the Dark-types that threaten Sigilyph. Finally, I added Escavalier because I wanted a more secure Psychic resist that can also soft check Teapot. Escavalier can also pressure Umbreon for Sigilyph, taking pressure off Passimian being the sole way to do so.

The team has no hazard removal but I don't think it's that necessary here. I got to mid-1600s with it after I turned my brain on and stopped tilting to shit like Weakness Policy Orbeetle... The team has had some issues with overbearing stuff like DD Haxorus and SD Diggersby, so you'll have to limit their ability to set up. I slashed Sleep Powder on Roserade for this reason if you want to try that out to punish Haxorus more so then the latter. Below are some replays to showcase the squad:

I hope you like the team!
