SeedStorm - A gardening guide for sandstorms

so i was thinking of how great tyranitar is, and realised that ferrothorn has full immunity to sandstorm and how leech seed does pretty good as well, and what most sandstorm teams lack is recovery. but then i came to the hurdle of the uber'd garchomp, and looked for a replacement. choice banded flygon. of course it isnt up to par with garchomp, because thats been banned from ou, so i figured this to be the next best thing with resistances to sandstorm. it actually turned out to be a pretty good sweeper. then i thought of empoleon, which is an awesome pokemon all round, and gets rid of my fear of having two pokemon the same type, because ferrothorn + empoleon are complete different typing (sorta). ferro against EQ is a neutral, so they don't share the same for that. empo doesn't share quad weakness to fire, or neutral to flying. completely different typing. standard blissey holding leftovers to shrug off all sandstorm damage, and landorus because it is a beast with an amazing ability.

ANYWAYYYY

Jolly Tyranitar @Choice Scarf
Trait - Sand Stream
64 Def/242 Atk/202 Speed

-Stealth Rock
-Superpower
-Stone Edge
-Crunch

Tyranitar, one of the most used pokemon in the OU tier. The pseudo-legendary Dark/Rock hybrid has been somewhat a god in its reign since the near very beginning. He is the key component to the SeedStorm team, and will start by SR'ing, being faster than the opponent and if it still survives, will swap out into Ferrothorn. Tyranitar has just laid out a Sandstorm, and a Stealth Rock layer, making it increasingly hard for the opponent to fend off the uprising. I preffered Scarf over Band because I could never get it faster than the opponent. I never really had success with Tyranitar until this one, where before its base attack was below 130, it was about just under 120, and it sucked donkey balls on the Battle Subway. So this is it's confident replacement which definetely does its fearsome reputation proud.

180px-598Ferrothorn.png

Adamant Ferrothorn @Rocky Helmet
Trait - Iron Barbs
30 Atk/222 Def/252 SpDef

-Thunder Wave
- Leech Seed
- Gyro Ball
- Spikes

OH MY DEAR GOD THIS THING IS A BEAST. It was EV Trained whilst holding Macho Brace, so the Speed is especially low, placing Gyro Ball at its max. This is the ultimate mix between Tank and Physical Wall, and I think I might be in love with BarbHelmet, even when raising this to Level 100, one Fake Out would deplete around a third of the opposition's health, and i would take around 5 HP. Open with Spikes, then Leech Seed or Thunder Wave to your prefference, or to suit the situation. If you can manage to get three layers of Spikes, it is a godsend. Each switch the opponent makes will be resulting in loads of damage. Gyro Ball deals damage like a boss, and there has been an occassion or two where Ferrothorn has taken out 2 Pokemon solo, and puts a great stop to Sweepers.

250px-330Flygon.png

Jolly Flygon @Choice Band
Trait - Levitate
4 HP/252 Atk/252 Speed

-Stone Edge
-Earthquake
-Outrage
-U-Turn

Flygon has been, since Gen III, my all-time favourite Pokemon. In Sapphire, I raised it until Level 100, anticipating that it learned Earthquake, and I couldn't teach it to him because I used the TM on Swampert, which was only replaced by Kyogre. It was a major dissapointment, but since I Pal Parked it to Platinum, then Poke Transferred it to Black, I got it into a Trapinch egg and using it in my team was like a little party. This set is so good in a sandstorm its scary. If your cards had been played right, or there had been a couple switches on the foe's team due to paralysis, low health, uselessness, etc, Flygon would Outrage them down. Had ended a game completely by 3 Outrage OHKO's in Super Single Train at Battle Subway. All in all, this legendary creature is no more shadowed by Garchomp, and thoroughly deserves its place in OU now.

210px-395Empoleon.png

Modest Empoleon @Smooth Rock
Trait - Torrent
16 HP/252 SpA/240 Speed

-Flash Cannon
-Grass Knot
-Ice Beam
-Surf

My starter in Platinum, again, brought into Black, turned into an egg and then EV trained. Empoleon is my counter to other Sandstorm teams, Sunny Day teams, Hail teams, and Rain Dance teams. This is an anti-weather weapon, and can take down Gliscors, Flygons, Garchomps, Jellicents, etc. Whats also great about Empoleon on here, is that its one of the best counters to Ice Types I've ever seen. With quad resistance to ice, its an amazing switch out from Landorus/Flygon, and even Ferrothorn if Fire strikes. Flash Cannon will usually OHKO any Ice type, and though outsped by Weavile, it won't be able to take down Empoleon with ease, and it will be able to knock it out in one hit Flash Cannon. If Empoleon could learn Sandstorm it would be perfect. Holding Smooth Rock, Empoleon is constantly switched in, so it will increase Sandstorm's duration as an added bonus.

160px-242Blissey.png

Bold Blissey @Leftovers
Trait - Natural Cure
252 HP/202 Def/54 SpDef

-Seismic Toss
-Softboiled
-Toxic
-Wish

YAAAAAAY, everyone loves Blissey, right? Well, love to use it probably but once you're pinned up against one you could be pretty much screwed. Known as the best Special Wall to ever exist, Blissey still looks down on the newly discovered Eviolite Chansey, and even Regice, Snorlax, etc. The fat angel is great fun to use, and everyone loves being able to 3-4HKO nearly anything, right? Yeah. That's the fun in Seismic Toss. And with Blissey's seemingly undepletable health, it makes a formidable foe. Toxic against any unparalyzed foes, Wish and Softboiled to stay in the game. Blissey is pretty much self-explanatory, which is why it's hard to explain it in full because if I don't I'll just get my thread locked again. -.-

144px-645Landorus.png

Naive Landorus @Life Orb
Trait - Sand Force
4 HP/252 Atk/252 Speed

-Stone Edge
-Earthquake
-Rock Polish
-Sandstorm

The last resort. If Sandstorm is needed, then it'll be used. Sand Force gives an amazing boost to the already massive attack, and after just one Rock Polish, this Landorus reaches 606 Speed, which is crazy! I don't really know what I can say about Landorus, except that if used properly, it will win a game if your cornered. The only Pokemon on the team which can activate Sandstorm aside from Tyranitar, and acts as a Physical Sweeper to put that final dent into the opposition.

That's the SeedStorm team, any constructive criticism that can be given will be well appreciated.

Hi there! Nice Sand team. My first criticism is that Ferrothorn should not have both Gyroball and Thunderwave at the same time, which is a bit contradictory. Empoleon also doesn't need Smooth Rock since he doesn't have the move Sandstorm. Landorus might also not be the best sand starter since he's more fragile, and once your opponent sees that he has sand storm, he will have a harder time coming in and getting kills, thanks to the obscenely speedy metagame nowadays. Synergy wise, your team has a pretty big hole for fighting type moves, and adding a Reuniclius will help.

Reuniclus @ Life orb / Leftovers
252 hp / 252 def / 4 spa
-Psychic / Psyshock
-Trick Room (Seeing that your team is a little slower)
-Calm Mind
-Recover

thanks, and yeah i noticed the massive fighting type weakness :L i could swap landorus for reuniclus but i have no way of gettin one, seeing as the only 2 people i battle against only have black, and i cant get online (hence the gap in my profile where it would have a friend code :s )
and i'm pretty sure smooth rock just prolongs the sandstorm in place, and what pokemon could i use to teach sandstorm? this is my first sand team so i dont know tons about it :s

Interesting team you have here. However, there seem to be a few odd things around the team that are really not needed.

First, Tyranitar with Choice Scarf and Stealth Rock doesn't really work that well, because you get locked into Stealth Rock. Instead, I would recommend using Tyranitar's mixed set.

Tyranitar @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 64 SpA / 192 SpD
Sassy Nature (+SpD, -Spe)
- Fire Blast
- Stealth Rock
- Crunch
- Superpower

Also, Tyranitar's ability, Sand Stream, causes a *permanent* Sandstorm every time Tyranitar is switched in. So the uses of Sandstorm on Landorus, and Smooth Rock on Empoleon is completely pointless.

On Empoleon, the item should be replaced with Life Orb, so that Empoleon can get more power. Additionally, Flash Cannon provides very redundant coverage, and can be replaced with Agility.

Landorus doesn't need Sandstorm, because it is permanent, so instead of Sandstorm, he can use Hidden Power Ice to deal with Gliscor.

Also, as mentioned before, fighting-types, especially Conkeldurr, can be a huge problem.
You can try to fix this by replacing Flygon with Choice Band Dragonite.

Dragonite @ Choice Band
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpA)
- Outrage
- Extremespeed
- Waterfall
- Fire Punch

Also, Ferrothorn should be Rekaxed , not Adamant.

Good Luck.

cheers, i actually didn't know it was permanent. that helps a ton. i actually hate dragonite though :/, is there another dragon i could use that would work similarly? not hydreigon obviously, because of tyranitar :s
could i change fire blast to something else? i hate the move and it doesn't seem a great move for tyranitar tbh :L
so changes so far are:

-1 Flygon
+1 some other dragon
-1 Landorus
+1 Reuniclus
-1 Smooth Rock
+1 Life Orb
-Gyro Ball
+Power Whip/Iron Head?

thanks for all the feedback, much appreciated.

Okay. Btw, if you are switching Flygon for another dragon, you don't need to put Reuniclus in. I think Landorus is a solid part of this team, it would probably be better if it were to stay.

As for the other dragon, you could use Salamence, who would be able to switch in easily thanks to Intimidate.

Salamence @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naughty Nature (+Atk, -SpD)
- Outrage / Dragon Claw
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Roost

Also, I would recommend using Power Whip over Gyro Ball, not Iron Head.

Hey Con Artist, I liked the idea of your Sand team but it is really weak to Stall. In this current metagame every team needs a spinner except for HO and BP. Stall can ultimately destroy you since you don't have much counters for it. To overcome this problem I suggest you to make the following changes. Change Tyranitar to a standard set:
248.gif

Tyranitar (M) @ Chople Berry
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 236 HP / 24 Atk / 232 SDef / 16 Spd
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Crunch/Pursuit
- Rock Slide
- Superpower
By this set you can set up your hazards and yet being able to hit very hard. Crunch/Pursuit will allow you take on Latios, Gengars, Reuniclus, Lati@s, Etc. Rock Slide is mainly for the Flying Types/Volcarona. Superpower is for pokes who resist Tyranitars other moves. Secondly I'd suggest fixing your Landorus to this set:
645.gif

Landorus (M) @ Expert Belt
Trait: Sand Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 24 SAtk / 232 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Smack Down
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Substitute
This poke can be a really good stall-breaker if you use it wisely. Smack Down is for killing Skarmorys, Rotom-Ws, Gengars, Etc. Earthquake is for stab hitting with great power paired with Sand Force. Subsitute is to block statuses. Hidden Power Ice is for Gliscors and Dragons. Lastly you should replace your Flygon with a Hydreigon and the set is:
635.gif

Hydreigon (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Rash Nature (+SAtk, -SDef)
- Draco Meteor
- U-turn
- Fire Blast
- Focus Blast
Hydreigon is really good poke scouting your opponents team and having a great amount of bulk and power. Draco Meteor is primarily for stab. U-turn is for scouting and for Physics. Fire Blast is for Steels and Focus Blast is for Dark/Rock/Bulky Steels.

Glad it helped. Good Luck!

@mostwanted: thanks for the feedback, here's my response.
i've got a massive weakness to fighting types at the moment, and i'm going to run salamence over flygon, instead of hydreigon because my dragon is going to try and be the resistance to fighting types.
next, i really like your suggestions, and i'm gunna change the two sets. i just didn't want it to look like i was copying smogon's sets :s
so when i get on the computer, i'll make the changes, cos i'm on my phone atm

1) T WAVE AND GYRO BALL WTF? Id replace t wave with power whip. And use a sassy nature the attack doesnt help, or at least use a brave nature.

2) I think mixtar is better but i presume both ice beam and fire blast are egg moves and you seem to be doing this legitamitely so thats probably why you dont use it.

3) The synergy in this team is quite poor, Both of you walls are weak to fighting and once landorus is gone infernape will go through your team for a shortcut. i recommend raplcing bliss with a gliscor, and using 252hp/ 252spD/ 4 atk.

4) A lack of priorty will hurt you bad, I recommend Banded infernape, he fixs your ferrothorn weakness.

CB Ape w/ Choice band
Jolly with Blaze
252speed/ 252Atk/ 4 hp

- U turn
- Flare Blitz
- Close combat
- Mach punch

He is a perfect fit for your team, he both hits harder and is faster than flygon, can U turn and adds priority. Often you can flare blitz one thing the get knocked into blaze, the you just wreck something, ive ohko'd hippowdons with blaze boosted flare blitz.

5) Flash cannon provides no coverage and doesnt really help empoleon at all. If you feel the need to keep empleon at all id use agility, Im not sure why you dont have max speed if there is some purpose im overlooking but "The mo speed the mo better"

6) I just noticed you have fixxed some of the problems i complained of, you should update the RMT for the benefit of new people rating.
