why dont we just get rid of all pokemon with base 600 or above? If the idea is to create a more conservative metagame, getting rid of the hardest hitting pokemon in OU would surely help.

The only argument I see against this (if the point is to make a conservative metagame) is that the metagame becomes more stall-oriented and less offensive.
But what about specialized Pokemon, like Heracross and Infernape, that hit very, very hard? No one's going to bother arguing that Shaymin in more useful than Lucario or Hippowdon, despite having a much higher base stat total.

It's more that Grass is such a bad attacking type than Shaymin being bad. Seed Flare is amazing, but the two you mentioned resist it. There are many 4x Grass resists currently, 4 of them in the 580+ group (Moltes, Dragonite, Salamence, Heatran). Shaymin is just suspect to not fitting the metagame. It's very powerful in terms of raw power, but resistances own it.

Anyways, I think the 555 and below metagame would be fun to play in. The only wall lost is Cresselia, but amazingly it was mainly used to wall others in its stat range. Blissey, Skarmory, Gliscor, Weezing, etc. are still allowed in this game play. It mostly removes the Pokemon so varied in terms of their abilities that it is hard to wall them. Only Infernape comes close to the unpredictability of 600 group (excluding Shaymin....). The legendary trios might be able to stay, just because of how limited their movepools are.

Edit @ GEPH:

I concede that. I was just going off memory though. I still don't know why I forgot Gengar.

Shaymin has zero movepool, which is why it isn't OU, not because of the Grass resists. For offensive attacks, it basically has Seed Flare, Hidden Power, and Psychic (or Hyper Beam lol), or maybe Bullet Seed and a bunch of Normal attacks for physical offense. For support, it does pack the handy Aromatherapy, as well as a decently fast SubSeed, but doesn't get Sleep Powder, and is generally viewed as an inferior Sceptile or Celebi.

I want to see what happens if Blissey is just yanked out of the game. I'm not saying she should be, but it'd be interesting. Watching Calm Cresses and Snorlaxes attempt to stop Azelf and stuff.

What about a no-auto-weather environment?

You know, I disagree with narrowing down the list of metagame pokes. One of my personal favorite things d/p has brought to the table is the diversity of both pokemon and moves, and this high number of choices lets the metagame fluctuate like it should. The problem with picking off pokemon from the mass list is that if the list gets too small, the game has no way to change from week to week, and the same pokemon would end up on everyone's team.

So unless we can both find and agree upon the most balanced amount of selection, this little change to the roster probably wouldn't work very well. It would probably take a bit of time to finally find a good list, but it might be possible.

When I first saw this thread I had a similar idea although I set the bar slightly lower at 540, but making an exception for Arcanine ...

The perfect metagame is one the allow most pokemon possible in competitive range. What i would do is eliminate the pokes that clear advantage the pokes that which where created to be super pokes Mewtwo, Groudon, Rayquazza, etc basically every poke above 600 mark except regigas and slaking and i would also ban Deoxy -F because it would unbalance the game.

With the extra 600 poke level in mix a new top tier would form and some pokes would drop to underused. What i am suggesting leads to one huge OU game and one huge UU game with about 7-9 pokemon banned from play.I know somebody is going to say Lati@s,Darkrai will run rampant but three of the best walls Cress,Blissey,Deoxy LG are game.I think that suggestion leads to large group of pokemon in competitive play which is what everyone should want.

Banning just Blissey would change the metagame about as much as banning all 600ers without losing as much diversity, imo. And how hard it is to stop an Azelf? It's hard to get in in the first place because it dies to almost everything, has a predictable moveset and maxes at 361 speed. Lots of things can come in on the NP and threaten a 1hko.

How about something where more than six Pokemon are allowed per team? 7 or 8 maybe. I'd like to play it.

And I know it wouldn't work, but I want to give everything bar Spiritomb and Sableye Wonder Guard. Just to see what would happen.

I'd like to see a 3v3 metagame, best out of 3 emerge...sorta like PBR. You'd see your opponent's 6, pick 3, rinse and repeat. This would allow you to pick a different three than you did the first time, make adjustments based on opponent's playstyle...it could be cool.

Yes, I personally prefer 3v3, and a best of 3 matches would balance out the issues with it quite a bit. I think that is the direction Nintendo is headed as they flood us with more and more Pokemon, if you think this generation is bad next generation there is no way you'll be able to counter everything with 6 Pokemon. Might as well get used to it.

When battling you shouldn't strive to counter yourt opponent. You should strive to execute your own strategy as that's the only way to win tbh :/

I think I'd start by reconsidering that position ... there are a number of purportedly NU pokemon that can function effectively in higher tiers.

Personally I've used Purugly, Stantler, Ariados, Noctowl, Magcargo, Dewgong and Parasect, and seen others utilise Girafarig, Wischcash, and Raticate with great success.

Also you've overlooked some great UU pokemon like Ampharos and Mr. Mime, in favour of things like Luxray and Victreebel.

He also forgot Crawdaunt, Chimecho and Arbok, but whatever.

I know that some people love some pokes, but if you do a list with an smaller metagame, you can't include pokes like Crawdaunt, Chimecho, Dewgong or Noctowl, which will be rarely used.

Other way could be to create a tier between Ubers and OU:

Uber:
Arceus
Darkrai
Deoxys (attack)
Dialga
Giratina
Groudon
Kyogre
Lugia
Mewtwo
Palkia
Rayquaza

Faux tier:
Latias
Latios
Wobbuffet
Manaphy
Mew
Ho-oh
Deoxys (all forms except attack)
Dragonite
Garchomp
Tyranitar
Salamence
Metagross
Heatran
Cresselia

I doubt with this 3 bolded. Anyway, this could balance a bit OU, and create a new metagame with the Faux tier.

Let's create an index to give every pokemon a score depending on their movepool and base stats and then draw arbitrary lines from there as to which pokemon should be banned and which ones shouldn't until we get something acceptable.

That would require discussion, or some individual already very experienced at making charts and tables...
