[Overview]

Despite Shedinja being considered uncompetitive and weak Though Shedinja is generally considered as weak, uncompetitive, and a gimmick, this little shed bug can do extremely well in the Uber tier thanks to its wonderful ability Wonder Guard. Wonder Guard allows Shedinja to switch against some of the biggest threats of the Uber metagame, such as Kyogre, Bulk Up Dialga, some Arceus, most Palkia, non-Toxic Blissey, Latios, Latias, certain Arceus and some Mewtwo variants. His Its STAB attacks are also welcomed in Ubers due the abundance of Psychic-types. However, our beloved bug does not come without flaws. It's weak to four common attacking types (Fire, Dark, Ghost, and Rock, as well as Flying), is being andvulnerable to entry hazards and status like such as burn and poison. This means that using the bug Shedinja requires a lot of support. Regardless of these drawbacks, Shedinja is still a menace that every competitive team should be aware for of.

[SET COMMENTS]

Shedinja is often forgotten because people claim that there are better Pokemon to use. However, one must not forget about Shedinja's niche: walling a great deal of pokémon in the Uber tier. X-Scissor is Shedinja's primary STAB move, dealing good damage against Mewtwo, Latios and Latias, Deoxys, and Darkrai to name a few. Shadow Sneak complements X-Scissor to 2HKO certain Pokemon. Shadow Claw can replace Shadow Sneak, but usually is better than the damage but Shedinja will lose out on a valuable priority move. For example, X-Scissor followed by Shadow Sneak can 2HKO Mewtwo and Kingdra. Shadow Claw can still be used over Shadow Sneak, but Shedinja risks being outsped and hit by a super effective attack by the Pokemon mentioned above. Will-O-Wisp cripples physical sweepers like such as Salamence, Rayquaza, and Metagross, while Toxic is a slow death sentence to Wobbuffet, Blissey, Kingdra and Kyogre. The last move is a choice between Protect, which allows Shedinja to scout for any dangerous moves the foe may happen to have (Hidden Power Fire Latios, for example); Heal Block, that useful against opposite opposing walls that can recover their health (For example, Blissey, Lugia, RestTalk CM Calm Mind Giratina-O); and finally Baton Pass, that makes you switch enables Shedinja to scout for possible switch-ins.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Focus Sash is the preferred item because it allows Shedinja to survive a attack that would kill him it. However, Lum Berry is also viable as it prevents harmful status such as confusion, burn, poison, and Darkrai's Dark Void (Bad Dreams kills Shedinja). A Lonely nature in combination in conjunction with 0 Defense IVs prevents Pokemon with the ability Download to get from getting a Special Attack boost.

Shedinja requires a lot of support to shine. Since entry hazards kills the ghostly bug, a good Rapid Spin user like such as Forretress, who can also set up entry hazards to help Shedinja, can pair well with it. Sandstorm and the less common hail also spell doom for Shedinja. Kyogre makes a formidable partner because it can set up and eliminate the aforementioned weather conditions thanks to Drizzle. In addition, Shedinja can switch into every Kyogre counter bar Zekrom (thanks to Teravolt) and Ferrothorn (because of Iron Thorns and Leech Seed). Kyogre can also counter Heatran, who walls this entire set. Safeguard is another option because, with Safeguard, Shedinja can switch into supporter Lugia without fearing Toxic. Some Pokemon that enjoys Shedinja's walling capacities, such as Groudon and Reshiram, also go well with it.

[SET COMMENTS]

Although using Shedinja as a sweeper may sound ridiculous, it has a niche that can make a Swords Dance set works, namely Wonder Guard. Because of Wonder Guard, Shedinja can often set up in front of some Pokemon (get rid of the accented 'e') like such as Kyogre, non-Hidden Power Fire Latios, Latias and Kingdra. X-Scissor and Shadow Sneak are the main moves of this set, both getting STAB and with good coverage overall, denting, after Swords Dance, some threats including Kyogre, Choice Scarf Palkia, and Kingdra. Unfortunately, Shedinja's offensive movepool is very limited. Shadow Claw is another STAB attack, getting and is a stronger hit on Giratina (both formes), Rayquaza, and Lugia, while also having a high critical hit ratio. However, either Will-O-Wisp or Toxic can also be used here because his Shedinja's movepool is barren.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Dig can also be used here, but this is an opportunity for the opponent to bring something deadly like such as Abomasnow, Tyranitar, or a Pursuit user. The same partners that Shedinja needs in the Wall set can be applied here for its other set can be used here.

Shedinja gets walled by most Steel-types. Reshiram can destroy every Steel-type Pokemon in the game thanks to TurboBlaze Blue Fire (including opposite opposing Reshiram with a Dragon-type move), making it a good partner to Shedinja, while Shedinja can wall and kill Kyogre, Latios, and Latias that make Reshiram shuffle in fear. Shedinja also appreciates entry hazards, especially Stealth Rock and Spikes (Ho-Oh is OHKOed by +2 Shadow Claw after Stealth Rock damage). Forretress and Ferrothorn can lay both, making them good partners to Shedinja. A Substituted passed from something like Mew and Vaporeon also helps Shedinja Baton Pass users such as Mew and Vaporeon can also help Shedinja by passing it Substitute.

[Team Options]

Shedinja is better used as an element of surprise, but the Wi-Fi clause can spoil the strategy. Also, Shedinja can't be placed in just any team. The ghostly bug requires specific support to make his job.

Rapid Spin is a must to bring Shedinja in without the possibility of dying. Forretress is a good spinner to team up with Shedinja, because he can also learn all three forms of entry hazards, helping Shedinja in either stalling or killing the opponents. Shedinja is dead if he is burned or poisoned, making Pokemon with Safeguard potent Shedinja's partners. Examples of Safeguard users in Ubers include Wobbuffet, Cresselia and Latias. Sandstorm and hail are also a problem for Shedinja. Kyogre can get rid of hail and sandstorm thanks to Drizzle, with a bonus of countering most of Shedinja's counters such as Ho-Oh, Heatran and Reshiram. Trick Room, while uncommon, can support Shedinja, especially the Swords Dance set. Dialga can set up Trick Room, as well Stealth Rock.

From an offensive point of view, Pokemon that can benefit from Shedinja killing their counters can team up well with the ghostly bug, like Speed Boost Blaziken and Reshiram, who can sweep after Kyogre and Latios fall for status or the Swords Dance set. Groudon also appreciates Shedinja's stalling capacities against his mortal nemesis: Kyogre. Groudon can set up sun via Drought, Stealth Rock and paralyze stuff with Thunder Wave, while Shedinja takes any Grass and Ice move aimed at Groudon.
(We no longer use Team Options. Please add the sentences in this section to the relevant Additional Comments of the sets)
[Other Options]

Shedinja suffers from limited movepool. Every usable option was already listed in the above sets.

Shedinja's shallow movepool means that there aren't too many other options which it can use. Trick can be used along with a Choice Band to cripple specially-based pokémons Pokemon and walls. Sucker Punch is stronger than Shadow Sneak in some cases, but there isn't a risk about Shadow Sneak missing under normal circumstances. Shedinja can use Baton Pass and Agility, but both are illegal together and with Swords Dance. Baton Pass can still be used with Hone Claws, but Mew outclasses the ghostly bug since the former can Baton Pass Swords Dance and Work Up. Spite can be used to PP stall some sweepers like CM such as Calm Mind Kyogre and Bulk Up Dialga. Dig can hit some Steel-types, but they can switch to something that has Pursuit or something that can bring harmful weather.

[Checks and Counters]

Shedinja isn't as hard to kill as many people think. Here comes a list of everything that destroys the shed bug: Fire-, Ghost-, Dark-, Rock-, and Flying-type damage-dealing moves; sandstorm damage; hail damage; residual damage from sandstorm, hail, Spikes, and Stealth Rock; status effects such as regular poison, toxic poison, burn, and confusion; Leech Seed; Ghost-type Curse; Struggle; Struggle recoil; Life Orb recoil; Black Sludge; Sticky Barb; Doom Desire or Future Sight; Iron Thorns; Mold Breaker and its variants (TurboBlaze and TeraVolt); Rough Skin and Bad Dreams.

Shedinja can't stand Dragon moves from Haxorus and Zekrom (because of Mold Breaker and TeraVolt, respectively), although both can't switch in a Will-O-Wisp. Reshiram also has a variant of Mold Breaker in TurboBlaze and can smack it with a Fire or a Dragon move, but the flame dragon can't stand a boosted Shadow Claw Shedinja cannot deal with Haxorus, Zekrom, and Reshiram, as they ignore Wonder Guard thanks to Mold Breaker, TeraVolt, and TurboBlaze, respectively. However, Haxorus and Zekrom need to watch out for Will-O-Wisp when they switch in, while Reshiram can't stomach a boosted Shadow Claw. Ho-Oh can send Shedinja to hell with either Sacred Fire or Brave Bird, but like Reshiram, can't switch in a boosted Shadow Claw, especially if Stealth Rock is on the field. Groudon doesn't like neither Toxic nor and Will-O-Wisp, but can destroy Shedinja with Stone Edge, Fire Punch, or Overheat. An unexpected move from Shedinja's target, such as Hidden Power Fire Latios or Toxic Kyogre kills the ghostly bug. Heatran resists everything Shedinja has, and can also grab a Flash Fire boost should Shedinja run Will-O-Wisp. Shedinja also falls against Pursuit users, especially the ones that it can't damage well, such as Scizor and Metagross. Ferrothorn can dent eliminate Shedinja if the latter used a contact move against the steel leech, as do other Pokemon holding Rugged Helmet. Houndoom, although very rare in Ubers, can use a mixture of Fire move + Sucker Punch finish off Shedinja with a combination of Sucker Punch and a Fire-type move. Other things Pokemon that can revenge kill but cannot switch into him Shedinja directly include Pokemon such as Darkrai, Hydreigon, Tyranitar and Shaymin-S. Chandelure and Mewtwo can handicap Shedinja with a Ghost- or Fire-type move, but should be aware of Shadow Sneak and Shadow Claw (and X-Scissor in Mewtwo's case). Giratina-A has enough defenses to take a Shadow Sneak or Shadow Claw, and can then retaliate back with its own Shadow Sneak or Shadow Ball. Shedinja can be killed by a lot of ways, but can also wall your entire team if you're not prepared The bottomline is that Shedinja can be KOed by many ways, but is a Pokemon to watch out form, as it can wall your entire team if you aren't prepared for it.

[Dream World]

Shedinja doesn't't get an ability from Dream World, but instead get a great counter: Shadow Tag Chandelure.
(If the Pokemon has no DW ability, then no DW section)
