Shelgon [GP 2/2]

IMO put the DD set before the Support one. Shelgon makes a better teammate that can absorb status than one that passes Wish, and Dragon is just a fucking boss attack type.

<p>Last generation, nobody really considered using Shelgon outside of NU because, being a middle evolution despite evolving into the mighty Salamence, it's (don't use "it's" when showing ownership; the proper word is "its") base stats are lackluster (to do what? Explain to the reader why Shelgon has lackluster stats). However, with the 5th generation’s generous benevolent gift of the eEviolite, Shelgon will find a place on many UU teams (Analyses are meant to sell a Pokemon’s particular advantages, not put it in a positive light) can fill a specific role on your team as a physically defensive pPokemon. His ability to serve as a Dragon-type wall, sporting Wish and Roar over the competition, or a defensive Dragon Dance sweeper, with his high Defense enabling him to ignore physical blows while setting up, gives Whether you want him to be an annoying wall, or a bulky setup Pokemon, Shelgon a valuable niche in UU as a will find a place on many teams due to being one of the few UU dDragon-types.</p>

<p>With solid defense and access to moves like Wish, Toxic, and Roar, Shelgon just seems made for being a bulky eviolite staller. However, stalling isn't the only thing he can do. With access to Dragon Dance and Outrage he can become a nightmare thanks to awesome typing, eviolite, and great attack after a few DD's. If you're in need of a dragon and you want to try something new, give Shelgon a try! He may surprise you.</p>

<p>Defensive Dragon Dance is the way to go on Shelgon. With four key resistances to Fire, Water, Grass and Electric, an amazing offensive type in Dragon, and a great Defense stat, Shelgon can shrug off hits while it sets up. Rest and Sleep Talk allow you to recover health and set up or attack while asleep. Outrage is a neat STAB move that tears holes in most non-Steel-type Pokemon after setting up. This rinse-and-repeat combination allows Shelgon to pose as a threat to the opponent. This set is designed to slowly become a speedy and powerful offensive powerhouse. Rest and Sleep talk give you "status-immunity" and Sleep Talk allows you to setup Dragon Dances as you sleep. with the given nature and ev's Shelgon is insanely bulky with an eviolite. after 4 Dragon Dances he becomes strong and fast and he's a nightmare to take down once he gets those DD's up. Outrage is great in UU as there's not much steel types except for Registeel, Cobalion, and Magneton pretty much. (at least, the ones who are used) but once you remove the opponents steel types you can set up on pokemon like Chansey who can't really do anything to you. After you do that, proceed to sweep with Outrage.</p>

<p>Dragon Claw serves as a fine option over Outrage if you feel that the confusion from Outrage will get the better of Shelgon. Keep in mind, however, that when Outrage is executed during Sleep Talk, it will not leave Shelgon confused, nor will it lock him into Outrage. Confusion is nasty. Especially when you've uped your attack. We all know that. So you can always replace Outrage with Dragon Claw if you don't really appreciate that nasty confusion. Keep in mind though, when using Outrage through Sleep Talk, you won't end up getting confused due to fatigue. You also won't get locked into Outrage either. You might not get as many OHKO's with Dragon Claw so it's Power versus No Confusion. Whichever you prefer, but as said before. Sleep Talk bypasses the fatigue and it bypasses being locked into Outrage. Utilising a Careful nature isn’t recommended, as the Defense bonus from the Impish nature is generally higher than with Special Defense. Although it appears that Wish and Dragon Dance is a superior combination to Rest, Sleep Talk and Dragon Dance, Wish is an event move and is illegal with Dragon Dance, a breeding move. Other than that there's not much you can change with this set other than nature and a small tweak to the ev's to suite your team. Careful is always an option, but it's better to stick with Impish as you get a better Defense bonus than you would a Special Defense bonus.</p>

<p>Shelgon loathes Ice-types, especially Abomasnow, which can claim an OHKO on Shelgon with a chilling Blizzard. Slowbro or Slowking carrying Flamethrower or Fire Blast can barbecue Abomasnow and its band of Ice-types, and Scald deals super-effective damage to Ground-type Pokemon that find themselves walling Shelgon. Walrein in hail, however, infuriates the slow Water-type salamanders by setting up Substitute and Protecting. Empoleon is an amazing partner for Shelgon; it sets up Stealth Rock for Shelgon to obtain more damage with Outrage, and absorbs Ice-type attacks that Shelgon would die to take. Meanwhile, Shelgon resists the Electric-type moves that damage the metallic penguin. This Shelgon set appreciates it when you remove the opponents Ice types. Abomasnow often spells doom for Shelgon because that means your facing a hail team. Carrying Slowbro or Slowking with Fire Blast will help Shelgon out as those two pokemon are really helpful when it comes to fighting hail teams because they don't have much weaknesses to hail while Scald can help you get rid of hail's ground types like Nidoqueen and Donphan while Fire Blast will dish out damage to the Ice type Pokemon. Just be cautious of the infamous Stallrein with Blizzard as Slowbro / king will have a hard time against Walrein. Empoleon works as a fantastic partner for Shelgon as Empoleon can set up stealth rock and he can deal with pokemon like Kingdra with a simple roar. Not to mention Empoleon is able to absorb ice type attacks for Shelgon while Shelgon can take electric attacks.</p>

Shelgon can be a chore to take down without special attacks; in fact, Shelgon carries as much physical bulk as Cresselia! Shelgon also supports your team with 167 HP Wishes. Wish and Protect allow you to restore HP to take more physical blows, and Protect finds itself as an excellent scouting tool as well. Toxic allows Shelgon to break through walls that are not of the Steel- or Poison-types. Roar is great when you have entry hazard - especially Toxic Spikes - support, and it can also scare away physical attackers that attempt to set up on you. Dragon Claw takes the cake in the last slot, as a move that Taunt cannot stop, and as a reliable STAB attack that can leave some scratches on the opponent. The main reason to use Shelgon over a bulky pokemon such as Dusclops, is the fact that it gets the invaluable wish. Shelgon reaches towering defense with max EV's and an eviolite. Wish / Protect is your general form of healing and Protect can be used to scout, or stall out with toxic damage. Shelgon has a passable 226 atk with no investment so dragon claws will dish out some damage to the frail pokemon. Roar is an option over Toxic is you have entry hazzards such as Toxic Spikes up as Toxic is, for the most part, redundant. Dragon Dance is illegal with Wish so you can't run both Wish and Dragon Dance</p>

<p>Body Slam is an option over Toxic or Roar if paralysis support is necessary. However, it only paralyses 30% of the time, so it is generally inferior. An EV spread of 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD with a Careful nature merits a mention to abuse Shelgon’s unique resistances, but it no longer takes physical attacks as well as it would; Choice Band Heracross always 2HKOes 252 HP / 4 Def Shelgon with Close Combat, even with Eviolite. With those EV's and an Impish nature, holding an eviolite will give Shelgon great bulk. 334 HP / 492 Def / 205 SpD is no laughing matter. However, don't overestimate what you can wall with Shelgon as any special attacker will break through that decent Special Defense. The HP is also lacking so don't think you can come in on just any physical attack and survive. Body Slam is an option over Toxic / Roar if you absolutely need the paralyze support but it might not always work in your favor. So only use it if you absolutely need the paralyze support. You can also change the EV's so it leans more towards Special Defense or a mix. Leave the nature as Impish in most cases however.</p>

<p>As always, Shelgon struggles with Ice-types, especially Abomasnow and Froslass. Hitmontop destroys Ice- and Steel-type Pokemon, and can make use of Rapid Spin to remove entry hazards, enabling Shelgon to switch in unscathed. Scolipede and Nidoqueen can set up Toxic Spikes, and in Scolipede’s case, Spikes. This allows Roar to find a spot in the third slot, as phazing opponents and forcing them to rack up damage is nasty. Shelgon has trouble with Hail pokemon such as Abomasnow or Froslass. He also has trouble taking down opposing steel-types. Carrying a bulky fighting type like Hitmontop will do wonders as he can dispose of Ice and Steel types while also getting rid of hazards with Rapid Spin. Speaking of hazards, pokemon who can set up hazards such as Scolipede and Nidoqueen will help a bundle because Shelgon appreciates the hazard support so that way he can run Roar instead of Toxic.</p>

[Other Options]

<p>Shelgon’s choices are essentially nonexistent outside of what was listed in the sets. Brick Break cannot really find a place on the sets, or too weak to do even super-effective damage. Kingdra outclasses Shelgon when it comes to using an absolutely offensive spread for a Dragon Dance set, as it has Water-type STAB, higher speed, and freedom to run a different item. With Shelgon, other options are nearly non-existent as it's movepool is very lackluster for a wall such as himself. However, it's possible to run a max speed and attack DD set as with eviolite and no investment in defense, you reach a defense of 354. However, with max speed and max attack your HP is a measly 271 so you can't take much hits. not to mention with a jolly nature you'll reach a speed of 218 and only 289 atk. So your better off just abusing his great typing, physical bulk, and wish stalling. Offensive DD is made even worse by the fact that Kingdra is able to run the exact same set only better due to his STABs and the freedom to run a different item.</p>

[Checks and Counters]

<p>Trick or Knock Off is an obnoxious surprise for Shelgon, removing its precious Eviolite. Trick might even give Shelgon a Choice item, which will ruin any attempts to set up with Dragon Dance from that moment on. Nevertheless, Protect can guard against Trick and Knock Off. Super-effective attacks, even physical ones, can force out or crush Shelgon. Fraxure, Kingdra, and Altaria can simply spam Outrage to fell our pupa-staged dragon. Steel-types walk all over Shelgon, and take practically nothing from Shelgon’s STAB attacks. Mismagius and Mew can burn Shelgon’s sturdy shell with Will-O-Wisp, crippling it and preventing it from doing much damage. Kingdra that have managed to obtain two Dragon Dances wreck Physically Defensive Shelgon with Outrage if the shelled dragon lacks Roar. Kingdra with one Dragon Dance crush Defensive Dragon Dance Shelgon with Outrage. Any pokemon with Trick or Knock Off will dispose of your eviolite leaving you with only decent bulk and those two moves are becoming all the rage so you better watch out. Use protect to scout a Trick or Knock Off if you have to. Hail teams and their Blizzard spamming can be the death of Shelgon as it's an instant KO. Steel-types will manage to wreck any set. Especially Registeel. Other toxic stallers such as Chansey will slowly chip away at your health as you have no form of status healing unlike Chansey who has natural cure. Once again, use protect to scout and switch or just carry a Heal Bell / Aromatherapy user. Taunt + WoW Mismagius and Mew cause great problems for Shelgon as he can literally do nothing to them. Kingdra can break through the physically bulky with 2 DD's unless you carry roar. While the bulky booster set will loose out to a max attack adamant Kingdra's outrage with just 1 DD.</p>

[Dream World]

<p>Shelgon's unreleased Dream World ability, Overcoat, is currently unreleased, and therefore illegal. Immunity to hail and sandstorm damage It sounds like it'd be better would carry more viability than Rock hHead giving you immunity to Hail and Sandstorm, if it were not for the fact that but Rest, (Rest is available via TM44) Sleep Talk, Wish, and Outrage are all illegal with Overcoat., so just stick with Rock Head.</p>

I’m terribly sorry to say this, but your analysis has a lot of spelling and grammar errors, and omissions of certain words, and it looks like a first-grader, or even a kindergartner, wrote this. Your vocabulary could also be spiced up a bit. In fact, I feel that this needs a complete rewrite, as I pretty much rewrote the analysis.

Not bad at all.

I saw an instance of "it" at the beginning and changed the subsequent "he"s to "it"s. It doesn't really matter which you choose but be consistent.

Be careful not to needlessly double-space things. I fixed many instances of this but noticed many more. I stopped checking after a certain point, so go through the rest if you want to. Actually now that I think about it it's probably not a big deal.

Keep in mind, however, that when Outrage is executed during Sleep Talk, it will not leave Shelgon confused, nor will it lock it Shelgon 'it lock it' seems confusing into Outrage. Utilizing a Careful nature isn’t recommended, as the Defense bonus from the Impish nature is generally higher than the Special Defense boost granted to you by a Careful nature. Although it appears that Wish and Dragon Dance is a superior combination to Rest, and Sleep Talk,<comma> and Dragon Dance, Wish is an event move and is illegal with Dragon Dance, a breeding move.</p>

<p>Shelgon loathes Ice-types, especially Abomasnow, which can claim an OHKO on Shelgon with a chilling Blizzard. Slowbro or Slowking carrying Flamethrower or Fire Blast can barbecue Abomasnow and its band of Ice-types, and Scald deals super-effective damage to Ground-type Pokemon that find themselves walls Shelgon. Walrein in hail, however, infuriates the slow Water-type salamanders by alternating between Substitute and Protect. no need to mention counters of your teammates, and slowbro and slowking aren't salamanders, it's Quagsire that's a salamander... Empoleon is an amazing partner for Shelgon; it sets up Stealth Rock,<comma> enabling Shelgon to nab a few KOs with Outrage after Stealth Rock damage, for Shelgon to wreck more havoc with Outrage, and absorbs sponges Ice-type attacks that would make short work of Shelgon. Meanwhile, Furthermore/In addition, Shelgon resists the Electric-type moves that damage targets the metallic penguin. its an emperor Pokemon to be exact, but I guess that is understood</p>

<p>Shelgon is unique from other Dragon-types, as it is more defensively-<remove hyphen> oriented and obtains Wish. Shelgon can be a chore to take down without special attacks; in fact, 252 HP / 252 Def Impish Shelgon holding an eviolite carries this variant/set of Shelgon has as much physical bulk as a Cresselia with the same EV spread and nature! Shelgon also supports one's team with 167 HP Wishes. Wish and Protect allow you to restore HP to take more physical blows, and Protect acts as an excellent scouting tool move as well. Toxic allows Shelgon to break through walls that are not of the Steel- or Poison-type. Roar is useful in conjunction with entry hazards - in paticular Toxic Spikes, and it can also scare phaze away physical attackers that attempt to set up on Shelgon. Dragon Claw takes the cake in the last slot as a reliable STAB attack.<peroid>, not stopped by Taunt, that can leave some scratches on the opponent. It prevents Shelgon from being a complete Taunt bait while giving a way to deal consistent damage to the opponent.</p>

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

<p>Body Slam is an option over Toxic or Roar if paralysis support is necessary. However, it is unreliable,<comma> only paralyzing the opposing Pokemon 30% of the time, so it is generally inferior. An EV spread of 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD with a Careful nature merits a mention to abuse Shelgon’s unique resistances, but it no longer takes physical attacks as well as it would could; Choice Band Heracross always 2HKOes 252 HP / 4 Def Shelgon with Close Combat, even with Eviolite.</p>

<p>As always, Shelgon struggles with Ice-types, especially such as Abomasnow and Froslass. Hitmontop destroys Ice- and Steel-type Pokemon, and can make use of Rapid Spin to remove entry hazards, enabling Shelgon to switch in unscathed without receiving entry hazards damage doesn't switch in unscathed if it switches in on an attack. Scolipede and Nidoqueen can set up Toxic Spikes while the former can even lay Spikes to maximize Shelgon's walling potential while allowing Roar to force the opponent to take entry hazards damage.and, in Scolipede’s case, Spikes. This allows Roar to find a spot in the third slot, as phazing opponents and forcing them to rack up damage is nasty.</p>

[Other Options]

<p>Shelgon’s choices are essentially limited to those listed in the sets. Brick Break cannot really find a place fit into a moveslot on the sets, as it is quite weak, even when hitting super-<remove hyphen>effectively. Kingdra outclasses Shelgon when it comes to using an absolutely offensive spread for a Dragon Dance set, as it has Water-type STAB, higher speed, and freedom to run a different item. Although Shelgon can use an offensive EV spread on the Dragon Dance set, it is outclassed by other Dragon Dance users, such as Kingdra, which boasts better coverage, higher offensive stats, and is not dependent on Eviolite.</p>

[Checks and Counters]

<p>Trick or Knock Off is an obnoxious surprise for especially threatening to Shelgon, removing its precious Eviolite. Trick will likely bestow upon Shelgon a Choice item, which will ruin its attempts to set up with Dragon Dance from that moment on. Nevertheless, Protect can guard against Trick and Knock Off. Super-<remove hyphen> effective attacks, even physical ones, can force out or crush Shelgon. Fraxure, Kingdra, and Altaria can simply spam Outrage to fell our pupa-staged dragon. Steel-types walk all over Shelgon, and take practically nothing from Shelgon’s STAB attacks. Mismagius and Mew can burn Shelgon’s sturdy shell with Will-O-Wisp, crippling Shelgon and preventing it from doing much damage. Kingdra that have has managed to obtain set up two Dragon Dances wreck physically defensive Shelgon with Outrage if the shelled dragon lacks Roar. Kingdra with one Dragon Dance crushes annihilates used 'crush' too many times defensive Dragon Dance Shelgon with Outrage.</p>
