Pokémon Slate 2: Attack
Here are our class Slate winners!

The strategy-based approach
:Scizor: :Great-Tusk: :kleavor:
Primary Stat: Attack
Extra Restrictions before Pokémon phase:
- This Pokémon must have a set that uses a priority, pivoting (U-Turn and clones), or utility (Knock, Spin etc) Physical move
OR
- This Pokémon must have at least one of Bug or Dark Type

- This Pokémon must have higher Physical than Special attack
Extra Restrictions after Pokémon phase:
- This Pokémon's highest stat must be Attack
- This Pokémon must want to run Physical priority, utility, or pivoting moves (not neccessariy all 3 in one set)
Description/Justification:
funny little guys that do silly things but also do damage at the same time.
The talent-based approach
:samurott-hisui::hitmonchan::braviary-hisui:
Primary Stat: Attack (A)
Extra Restrictions before Pokémon phase:
- This Pokémon must originally be Dark, Fighting, or Psychic type
OR
- This Pokémon must originally have a Specialist Ability (ie. an ability that unconditionally boosts the damage of a certain category of attack) as one of its abilities
Extra Restrictions after Pokémon phase:
- This Pokémon must want to run a Specialist Ability or a custom clone of a Specialist ability
- This Pokémon must have a signature attack whose damage gets boosted by their Specialist ability (For mons with signature attacks that fit the bill, simply retaining this signature attack will qualify. For mons without qualifying signature attacks, adding a custom move will be necessary)

Description/Justification: Adepts are considered masters of the combat arts, specializing in a specific style of fighting. Cultivated through aptitude, resolve, genius, and/or pure talent, members of this class have worked tirelessly to hone their craft. Such efforts culminate into their magnum opus: a signature technique known only to themselves.
I’m all the way back here, I’m not approaching
Pointy sticks from far away, a superior military strategy for centuries
:vespiquen::decidueye::dragapult:
Primary Stat: Attack (A)
Extra Restrictions before Pokémon phase:
- This Pokémon must know a non-contact physical move (Link to those moves here)
Extra Restrictions after Pokémon phase:
- This Pokémon can’t know any contact-based physical moves, unless you make Long Reach its only ability
Description/Justification: Before anyone gets up in arms about this, you could basically drop Mamoswine here unchanged and it would still be legal. There’s a wide range of non contact moves, use them to make unique sets, and if there’s something you feel is missing, nothing’s stopping you from making a custom non-contact move (just please make it balanced, I will be checking)
You can submit up to 2 Pokémon for each listed class, as well as 1 Pokemon in the Brawler class, a class that has no restrictions except that the Pokémon you’re modifying must already have Attack as its highest stat. Submissions will close after a warning, good luck!

Abilities: Sheer Force
Move Changes:
+Throat Chop, Zing Zap, Iron Head, Ice Punch, Fire Punch
-Nasty Plot, Ice Fang, Fire Fang
Custom Elements: N/A
Justification: Only small buffs in Attack, given that Aura Wheel with Sheer Force is now a 143 power Electric move. Also has pivoting with Volt Switch/Parting Shot.

Pokémon: Lycanroc-Dusk
Class: Adept
Type: Rock/Fighting
Stats: 75/117/65/55/65/110
Abilities: Tough Claws
Move Changes:
+Sacred Sword, Body Press, Rock Smash
-Close Combat
Custom Elements: N/A
Justification: A better typing than pure Rock (defensively, that is). Other than that, not a lot has changed from the base. It loses Close Combat because 156 power off of STAB is terrifying. Also has a Power Boosted Priority in Accelrock

Pokémon: Rhyperior
Class: Brawler
Type: Ground / Fighting
Stats: 105 / 140 / 130 / 55 / 55 / 50 (+10 speed, -10 HP)
Abilities: Solid Rock / Stamina (HA: Bulletproof)
Move Changes:
+ Bulk Up, Close Combat, Drain Punch, Shore Up, Superpower, Wave Crash
- *none, as it still evolves from 2 rock types*

Justification: I like Rhyperior, but its current design is poor competitively. I gave it the Fighting type as it looks like a scrapper, and also to help it fit the Brawler class a bit more. Rhyperior gets a lot of Fighting-type moves so it makes sense there. It still learns a lot of rock moves from Rhydon.

I kept Solid Rock as it's still a solid option here and it's pretty well known for being on Rhyperior. Stamina to help it boost its already great defense on Body Press sets, now that it gets STAB on BP and reliable recovery in Shore Up. Bulletproof was chosen for flavor at Rhyperior looks like it's wearing a bulletproof vest, doesn't it? The speed buff was to help out any possible Rock Polish sets, at the cost of a little bulk. Finally, adding Wave Crash is a nod to Surf Rhydon.

Pokémon: Mightyena
Class: Adept
Type: Dark
Stats: 90 / 110 / 90 / 60 / 80 / 90 (+20 in every stat except SpA)
Abilities: Strong Jaw / Guard Dog (HA: Moxie)
Move Changes:
+ Jaw Lock, Hyper Fang, Ambush Hunt
- *none*

55 BP
Dark-type
Physical
15 PP
Biting move
Effect: Doubles in power if the opponent switched in this turn

Justification: Wallbreaker / pseudo-trapper using Stakeout: the move. No setup outside of Howl, and poor defensive utility leave it as an offensive Pokémon. Forces and punished a lot of switches but is committal to get onto the field with no pivot move. Coverage is still mediocre, relying on moves such as Hyper Fang, Poison Fang, and Play Rough to hit Dark resists. Can theoretically still do Moxie things but you're almost always going to be better off using Strong Jaw.

Pokémon: Toxicroak
Class: Tactician
Type: Poison / Fighting
Stats: 93 / 116 / 75 / 86 / 75 / 85 (+10 in Atk and all 3 bulk stats)
Abilities: Quick Striker / Dry Skin (HA: Poison Touch)
Move changes:
+ Toxin Strike
- *none*
40 BP
Poison-type
Physical
15 PP
+1 priority
Deals double damage if the opposing Pokémon is Poisoned or Badly Poisoned.

This Pokémon's attacks are 30% stronger when it attacks first. (aka reverse analytic aka weaker fishious rend but ability)

Justification: Toxicroak has a ton of priority moves already. Bullet Punch, Vacuum Wave, Fake Out, Upper Hand, and Sucker Punch, the latter of which it actually commonly uses. I'm taking that and running with it to create a dedicated priority attacker. The stat buffs are to just help keep it up stat-wise, as it's currently an NU Pokémon. One very dynamic aspect of this version of Toxicroak is that it does not get Mach Punch, so if it wants Fighting-type priority, it has to use Upper Hand or Vacuum Wave. This means that, while Toxicroak is a dedicated priority attacker and will be quite good at it, it can't just click Swords Dance and sweep with priority. In fact, not a single one of its priority moves can be spammed to great affect; Toxin Strike is the closest to spammable, but being a Poison-type move, can't hit Steels. Bullet Punch is fairly spammable, but isn't the best offensive type. Fake Out only works your first turn out, Vacuum Wave uses a worse Special Attack stat, and Upper Hand and Sucker Punch don't always activate. This makes Toxicroak fairly strapped for moveslots, but, in my opinion, not a frustrating way, but a way that allows you to tailor it to your team.

Toxin Strike's secondary affect probably won't come into play much, as Toxicroak doesn't learn Toxic Spikes and struggles to fit Toxic, but it can be a lethal option for a team built around abusing it. Poison Touch sets with Fake Out could be a thing, but it definitely misses Quick Striker. Dry Skin is also available if you want a more traditional Toxicroak set.

Pokémon: Emboar
Class: Adept
Type:

Stats: 120 / 123 / 80 / 100 / 65 / 40 [528 BST]
Abilities: Blaze / Exertion [HA]
Move Changes:
+ Close Combat, Quick Burn
- Wild Charge
Custom Elements:
Exertion - Boosts the power of moves that lower the user's stats by 30% (see Joltemons Overclock)
Quick Burn -
-
- 60 BP - 100% Acc - 15 [24 Max] PP - Lowers the user’s attack stat by 1 stage. +1 Priority (Contact)
Justification: Bulky Mixed Breaker. Exertion provides a good boost to the likes of Overheat & Close Combat. With Overheat's raw power from this boost, Special Attack investments are not all that necessary, allowing for more investment into bulk. Close Combat will typically be Emboar's fighting STAB of choice, however if you prefer not lowering Emboar's defenses in exchange for a bit less reliability, Hammer Arm is still an option (and also gets boosted by Exertion). Emboar's new Signature Move, Quick Burn, when boosted by Exertion, provides Emboar effectively with a Fire Espeed, but in exchange drains offensive potential until switching out. Will find success when up against the likes of Gourgeist & Tangrowth, while it may find difficulties against Primarina and Koraidon (although Primarina is definitely the biggest counter).

:sv/mr_rime:
Pokémon: Mr. Rime
Class: Adept
Type:

Stats: 80 / 110 / 75 / 110 / 100 / 70 [545 BST]
Abilities: Fancy Footwork / Screen Cleaner / Ice Body [HA]
Move Changes:
+ Revelation Dance, Mesmeric Step
Custom Elements:
Fancy Footwork - Sharpness clone. This Pokémon's dancing moves have their power multiplied by 1.5
Mesmeric Step -
-
- 80 BP - 100% Acc - 10 [16 Max] PP - Fiery Dance Clone. 50% Chance to boost Special Attack by 1 stage. (Dance)
Justification: Rapid Spinner & Special Breaker. Doesn't have the best bulk to set up with, but its main idea is to Rapid Spin then hit hard with high power special STABS, potentially even boosting its power further through its new Signature. Quickly drafted this one, may need a little fine tuning
:qwilfish-hisui:
:sv/qwilfish-hisui:
Pokémon: Qwilfish-Hisui
Note: Is still Eviolite compatible
Class: Tactician
Type:

Stats: 75 / 95 / 85 / 45 / 55 / 85 [440 BST]
Abilities: Poison Point / Merciless / Intimidate [HA]
Move Changes:
+ Flip Turn, Tainted Edge
Custom Elements:
Tainted Edge -
-
- 65 BP - 90% Acc - 15 [24 Max] PP - Ceaseless Edge Clone, sets Toxic Spikes instead of Spikes (Slicing)
Justification: Qwilfish-Hisui, being the more defensively oriented of its evolution line (thanks to Eviolite compatibility), lent itself more for utility sets. With Flip Turn (and a small boost to its health), Qwilfish can lean further into its role as an Intimidate Pivot. It also gets some Offensive Utility in Tainted Edge, allowing it to utilize some moveslot compression to further its potential as a hazard setter. Qwilfish can also further monopolize upon this utility with Merciless and Barb Barrage, allowing for some good damage despite its less-than-ideal attack stat.
:braviary:
:sv/braviary:
Pokémon: Braviary
Class: Brawler
Type:

Stats: 100 / 123 / 70 / 57 / 80 / 80 [510 BST]
Abilities: Keen Eye / Sheer Force / Contrary [HA]
Move Changes:
- Close Combat
Justification: Covers two unrepresented types in normal and flying. Plays similar to its original bulk up sets, except Contrary Superpower allows for moveslot compression. Contrary also covers Intimidate Blocking just as Defiant would have. Removed CC as paired with Contrary it could potentially be problematic w/ Recovery.

Type: Fighting / Flying

Abilities: Limber / Aerilate / Mold Breaker
Move Changes:
+ Rapid Spin
Justification: unblockable spinner with great power
- Araquanid’s highest stat must be attack.
- Golurk must have a custom move, as stated in the rules for Adept (honestly for this one just remove rage fist and make an extremely similar move by adding or dropping 5 BP and giving it a different name. Or ignore that and make a whole ass custom move from the ground up, I trust your judgement on what you feel is right for your subs).
- For Hawlucha, do the same thing with Rapid Spin that you’re doing with Golurk

That is, fortunately, all the vetoes we have. Sorry to call you out Ana but you have until Saturday 12:00 AM EST to fix your subs up (or delete them) before voting begins.

Before I end off, I want to say that I like what I’m seeing with everyone’s subs, and how I’m seeing unique interpretations and adaptations to different restrictions. For all its bumps and delays, I’m glad to see this mod begin to take shape. I’ll be back on Saturday, or sooner, who knows?

The vetoes were fixed expeditiously, which means we can get started on voting right now!

Just as a reminder, you can vote for up to 6 of the larger categories, being Tactician, Adept, and Sharpshooter, with 1 SV allowed for every two votes. As for the Brawler class, you can vote for up to 3 Pokémon, with the same SV rules as before.

Votes will end after a warning. Good luck everyone!

Congratulations to the winners. Before the next slate starts up, I have an announcement to make. Starting now, I will be accepting applications for the Shellder’s Gate council. If you’ve been following along, you can tell that I may not be able to do this all on my own, especially since I don’t know how to code. I’ll be looking for two people who can put some of their time into keeping this mod running in a timely manner if I can’t pick up the slack. I would also greatly appreciate assistance from a coder in the community, whether they want a council position or not, to bring Shellder’s Gate onto servers, so we can run room tours for balancing and eventually release the final product to DH.

If you’re interested in joining the council, coding for the mod, or both, just DM me on Discord with your Smogon name, prior council/mod coding experience (it’s fine if you have none of the former and are considering a council run, I don’t mind discovering new talent), and what you believe that you personally would bring to the table.

Congratulations to the winners once again, thank you to all who apply in advance, and I hope to see you all in Slate 3 with by my side soon.

Class Slate 3: Defense

WHO’S READY TO ROCK?! Of course, with how long this slate was postponed, you’d assume I have something prepared. Fortunately, I do. I’m proud to officially announce Shellder’s Gate’s two new council members: anaconja and Bobsican

With an actual council, and not just me, these slates should run more smoothly, and the time between them should shrink drastically (no more two month gaps if we can help it, really)

Just as a quick reminder for the slate, you can make up to two classes, where one of each of their requirements must be that the highest stat of the mon in that class must be defense.

I would like to thank everyone involved for your patience, and wish you all good luck!

Primary Stat: DEF
Extra Restrictions before Pokémon phase:
-DEF must be this Pokemon's highest stat
-This Pokemon must have a SPE below 80
Extra Restrictions after Pokémon phase:
-One of this Pokemon's types must be Steel, Fighting, Water, Dragon, Ground, or Rock
-This Pokemon's lowest stat must be SPE, and it must be lower than the original Pokemon
-This Pokemon's highest stat must be DEF
-This Pokemon cannot have more than four weaknesses
Description/Justification: The slow wall that everyone rallies behind! The Anchor wants to lead its team to victory through bearing the weight of its team, and what better way to do that than with a slow, high-defense mon? The type restrictions are all the "powerful" types. Of course, an anchor must be slow, so it has a Speed restriction... but a weak Pokemon cannot lead, so it cannot have more than four weaknesses.

:slowbro::pecharunt::golisopod:
Primary Stat: Defense (B)
Extra Restrictions before Pokémon phase:
- This Pokémon must have a move that enables pivoting (ie. U-Turn, Parting Shot, Teleport, etc.) or an ability that interacts with themselves switching in or out (ie. Regenerator, Intimidate, Emergency Exit, etc.)
Extra Restrictions after Pokémon phase:
- This Pokémon must be designed act as a defensive pivot
- This Pokémon must have an ability that interacts with itself switching in or out in some fashion.
Description/Justification: Powerful and resilient, Bulwarks devote themselves to the art of defense. When their allies may find themselves in danger, it is the Bulwark’s job to swoop in and shield them from the blow. From a plethora of experience, Bulwarks have adapted to obtain abilities that bolster their effectiveness while stepping in to save allies.

:corviknight::diancie::sandaconda:
Primary Stat: Defense (B)
Extra Restrictions before Pokémon phase:
- This Pokémon must be able to learn a move that is guaranteed to raise the user’s attack stat or defense stat (these moves include status moves that boost stats such as Bulk Up, and attacks with 100% chance to raise a stat such as Power-Up Punch)
Extra Restrictions after Pokémon phase:
- This Pokémon must want to viably run a move that is guarunteed to raise the user’s own stats (no longer limited to attack & defense)
- One of this Pokémon’s types must be Steel, Rock, Ground, or Fire
Description/Justification: Masters of the forge, Blacksmiths specialize in crafting tools for the battle ahead. Such skills make them experts in matters of preparation. Their craft has come shape their very being, as Blacksmiths fuse themselves with elements found in the forge.

Edited resub because my brain is dumb.

Primary Stat: Defense (A)
Extra Restrictions before Pokémon phase:
- Pokemon must be canine or canine-like in nature (Something like Mightyena would count even though hyenas aren't actually canids, for example) and/or be in the Human-Like Egg Group and/or have a bipedal, tailess form.

Extra Restrictions in Pokémon phase:
- Defense must be highest, and either HP or Attack must be its 2nd highest.
- Must be part Dark, Grass, or Normal types OR viably be able to use a move that would be boosted by Strong Jaw.

Description/Justification: A common enemy in tabletop games, some games go the extra mile and give this option to player characters. Defense stat primary because even at their weakest, they're still pretty beefy, especially for a normal human to go against.

:regirock: :groudon: :aggron::ferrothorn: :rhyperior:

Primary Stat: DEF
Extra Restrictions before Pokémon phase:
- Must be a Rock, Ground, or Steel type
- Must have a Defense stat of 110 for greater
…etc.
Extra Restrictions after Pokémon phase:
- This Pokémon must have at least one ability that defensively interacts with a move flag (i.e. Iron Barbs, Fluffy, Bulletproof)
- Attack must be the second- or third-highest stat
Description/Justification: This is the class for the Big Boys. Rivals to the feared Giants of the HP nation, these guys focus on physical bulk, living hits, and retaliating with strong hits of their own.
