Silent Riot

I was planning on saving this team for the Smogon Frontier, but lately there’s been a dearth of quality teams in this forum. Newcomers to competitive pokemon often have trouble making teams (since they’re new). Posting quality teams in this forum can really help these new players out, so I urge all the amazing teambuilders in the community to donate a quality team once in a while. In the meantime, I’ll post this team. I used it to get suspect reqs and peaked at #8 on the suspect ladder. Its not the best team n the meta and probably not even the best stall team in the meta, but it’s good. Have fun using it!
This team was designed to be an effective stall team that could beat every other stall team. I started off with Sub/Toxic Aegislash and sub WoW Gengar. Both of these mons can set up all over Blissey and start spreading toxic and burns like crazy mothafuckers. Ghost STAB is also godly this gen, and most teams only carry one resist. If I can eliminate that resist (I can), then these two become amazing cleaners which gives me a nice win condition to work with.
I decided Venusaur and Chansey would work well with Aegislash and Gengar. Venusaur can support the pair with Leech Seed which is great because they both lack any form of reliable recovery. Chansey could support the two ghosts with heal bell; although both Aegislash and Gengar have substitute, they still can get stuck with a burn through a stray scald or WoW, and having Heal Bell at my disposal when that happens is pretty nice. Also, Blissey and Mega Venusaur basically handle every special attacker in the game except Lati@s and Gardevoir, both of which are comfortably handled by aegislash.
So I had four members down and two to go. I needed these two pokemon to basically handle all the physical threats that venusaur and aegislash couldn’t and one of the mons had to have defog or Rapid Spin. The two combinations that worked best for me were Zapdos/Hippodon and Zapdos/Slowbro. I decided Slowbro was the better choice because it gave me a Fire resist and worked better against Charizard X and, if I guess the wrong Charizard, it can actually take a Fire Blast from Charizard Y without becoming dead weight for the rest of the game. However, using Hippodon helps against Mega-Mawile and Mega-Tyranitar, but I can play around those two.

AC/DC (Zapdos) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 252 HP / 168 Def / 68 SAtk / 20 Spd
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Heat Wave
- Thunderbolt
- Roost
- Defog
Zapdos can Defog against DeoSharp teams without dying which is a big deal because DeoSharp teams are everywhere. Heat Wave OHKO’s or 2HKO’s Bisharp, depending on if it invests in bulk. This means Bisharp can’t blindly switch into Zapdos in order to punish defog. Even if it does get a boost off of Defog, Even if Bisharp grabs the +2 from defog, Zapdos can survive its boosted knock off, roost off the damage, and then kill it with Heat Wave. Zapdos also deals with things like Mega-Pinsir and Mega-Scizor, both of which could otherwise sweep through this team. Zapdos can also switch into all of the Heal Bell users fairly well and eat up the PP faster with pressure; This team uses a lot of status moves to deal passive damage, and being able to limit my opponent to four heal bells a game is really useful, especially against opposing stall teams.

Lily Allen (Chansey) (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Heal Bell
- Soft-Boiled
- Seismic Toss
Chansey is basically a badass. It handles most pure special attackers in the game with the exceptions being Keldeo, certain CMers, Mega-Gardevoir, Gengar, and lati@s, most of which can be handed by the rest of the team really well. Anyways, outside of walling things Chansey contributes to this teamby providing SR support and Heal Bell support. Since most of my team is vulnerable to some form of status, Heal Bell was almost mandatory for me. Chansey is the only member of the team with stealth rock so it got stuck with that job. It gets quite a few opportunities to use those two moves though because most special attackers can’t 3HKO it. Moral of the story, Chansey=beast

Green Day (Venusaur) @ Venusaurite
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 104 Def / 148 SDef
Calm Nature
- Leech Seed
- Giga Drain
- Knock Off
- Synthesis
Venusaur’s main job on this team is to handle mixed attackers such as thundurus, aegislash, and infernape and to handle things like Gengar and Azumarill. In theory, Venusaur can check most of the metagame, but since it gets worn down quickly, I try to limit it to checking two pokemon a game at max. that being said, the thing is basically impossibly to OHKO so if you need to emergency check something Venusaur’s your mon. Synthesis and Giga Drain are recovery option and STAB respectively. I chose Knock Off over sludge bomb mainly to deal with Gengar, but the move also helps by knocking off the life orbs on a bunch of random things that switch into venusaur which prevents the opponent from muscling through my team with things like Landorus-I and Kyurem-B Knock off also comes in handy during stall wars by getting rid of lefties on the other team which forces my opponent to use roost or recover to restore HP. I chose Leech Seed over Sludge Bomb because it prevents things from setting up on Venusaur, it helps me handle things like Mega-Tyranitar, and provides passive recovery to Aegislash and Gengar at times.

Van Halen (Slowbro) @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 Spd
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Slack Off
- Toxic
Slowbro is the all purpose physical wall on this team. It handles things like Garchomp and Excadrill like a boss and also serves as my primary answer to Keldeo (I tend to save Venusaur for trickier threats). Scald is obligatory STAB. I chose Ice Beam over Psychic because I found that I need to be able to oneshot Garchomp since nothing on my team besides slowbro handles Garchomp at all. I chose Toxic because without it Charizard X with Roost sweep me. Slack off is for obligatory recovery.

Aerosmith (Aegislash) @ Leftovers
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 Spd
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shadow Ball
- Toxic
- Substitute
- King's Shield
Aegislash’s biggest job on this team is to Toxic to as much of the opposing team to as many opposing pokemon as possible. IIt can come in with impunity on Lati@s, Mega-Medicham, Terakion, Deoxys-S, and so many others. I decided to invest in special attack instead of special defense Aegislash because it helps me wear down bulky steels such as Mega-Mawile and Skarmory which I don’t have a good way to dal with otherwise. Also, investing in special attack can wear down the opponents Ghost resists/special walls which can lead to Gengar coming in and cleaning up the opponent’s team. The moveset is pretty self explanatory-king’s Shield to return to defensive form, substitute helps me dodge status and ease prediction, Toxic to spread status, and Shadow Ball to nuke things. Aegislash is this teams best answer to quite a few Pokemon including those mentioned above. Try to get Aegislash into the game as often as possible because it does a phenomenal job of disrupting teams and putting the opposing Pokemon on timers.

Black Sabbath (Gengar) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 236 HP / 20 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Taunt
- Will-O-Wisp
- Shadow Ball
Gengar does a similar job to Aegislash but targets Pokemon that Aegislash can’t handle such as Chansey and Gliscor. It also allows me to status steel and poison types such as Venusaur and Ferrothorn. Gengar’s high speed also allows it to check things like Garchomp and Mega-Mawhile if they manage to power through Slowbro and Aegislash respectively and just provides a nice mayday button for this team. The EV’s allow me to two-shot Deoxys-D with Shadow Ball 90% of the time and gives me a lefties number for more recovery. Actually, Gengar handles Deoxys-D very well since it threatens both a 2HKO and a Taunt. One special note: Bisharp loves switching in on Gengar. Odds are its going to try to pursuit trap Gengar so just go for the WoW instead of trying to switch. Doing so basically takes Bisharp out of the game.
Baton Pass chains: They aren’t as common post nerf, but they still mostly beat this team. Getting aegislash behind a sub and spamming Shadow Balls is your best bet, but you’ll probably lose this matchup most of the time.
Offense
General Notes: the key is to figure out who’s going to wall what. I first figure out what Aegislash walls since it can raise hell once it gets a safe switchin vs offensive teams. Then I pair slowbro and chansey against one or two pokemon apiece. Then I assign Zapdos to anything left that it can counter and figure out where it might have opportunities to defog, and anything left is up to Venusaur to handle. Gengar isn’t going to be walling a whole lot on offensive teams, but it can provide emergency Will-o-Wisp support against things like Mawile and Garchomp if they manage to power through my first answer for them.
Deo-D Hyper Offense: Lead with Gengar. You’ll be able to limit Deoxys-D to one layer of hazards max and if they decide to lead with Bisharp you can cripple it with WoW making defogging a lot less painful later on. If the opponent gets up two layers at some point in the game, defog them; Zapdos should be able to survive a +2 Knock off from Bisharp, and if not Venusaur can check Bisharp pretty well. Besides that, pair up your walls with the opponent’s sweepers so you know how to deal with the opponent’s p=Pokemon. Most of the opposing team should be packing life orbs so they will kill themselves over time. Just make sure you spam those recovery moves like all hell.
Charizard-Y offense: Chansey is the only thing that handles Charizard Y oon this team, so be sure to keep it really healthy. Charizard-Y is usually paired with a pursuit trapper for chansey but they can only do about 30% to it max, and Chansey still dodges the 2HKO from Charizard’s Fire Blast. Everything else on these teams tend to be walled pretty easily, and you can usually bring in aegislash on their defogger to unleash hell/toxic shit.
Bird-spam: Zapdos deals with Pinsir, Slowbro gets Talonflame, and Aegislash gets Staraptor. As long as you keep Zapdos healthy birdspam should not be a problem. Just treat it like any other offensive team.
Rain offense: lead with Aegislash if they have Deoxys-S and Shadow Ball the shit out of it. Its usually carrying Damp Rock so it should be a clean OHKO. Even if they switch, Shadow Ball will lay down the hurt on something. Kindra is handled by Blissey, Kabutops by Slowbro and Aegislash. Gengar is usually completely useless in these matchups because its outsped by almost everything so your probably gonna end up using it as death fodder. This team has two strong water resists, so this matchup should be winnable.
Sand Offense: sand offense is basically normal offense with Sand Rush Excadrill. Since slowbro wasn’t outspeeding excadrill anyways, it doesn’t really matter. Treat it like a normal offensive matchup.
Defensive teams
General notes: These games are a lot more slow paced then matches against offensive teams (obviously). The general gameplan is to overload the opposing team with status conditions and to eat up Heal Bell PP with Pressure from Zapdos. The ghosts have a really easy time switching in against defensive teams and start mucking up the opponent’s gameplan. Gengar really shines in these matchups thanks to WoW and taunt, which allow it to stallbreak very well. Also, try to use Venusaur’s Knock Off to get rid of as many Lefties as possible. Chansey and Slowbro are the best status spunges on this team since Chansey rids itself of status upon switching out and Slowbro can recover most of the passive damage it accrues with regenerator.
Spikes Stacking Stall: these teams use ferrothorn or skarmory to stack spikes, both of which can be scared out by Zapdos, who could then defog, and both are setup Bait for Aegislash. If you think you can bring in Zapdos safely a bit later to defog, do that and send in Aegislash against these two. Otherwise just send in Zapdos and defog the hazards away. Just don’t let the opponent get toomany layers up because that can get overwhelming fast. Two layers at max is a good rule in my experience.
Status stall: Like I said earlier, Slowbro and Chansey should be your two status sponges. Use make sure to use Heal Bell sparingly. I usually only use it once Venusuar and Zapdos are statused or if Either Aegislash or Gengar get statused since the ghosts are pretty useless burned. Once again find opportunities to bring in Aegislash and Gengar to force your opponent into using Heal Bells.
Semi-Stall: This is basically stall with a sweeper as a win condition. Just treat it like reqular stall but keep the counter to their sweeper very health. These teams aren’t too difficult unless thei win condition is Mawile in which caseyour probably fucked.
Balanced Teams: Every one is different. Your goonna have to figure these out on your own!!
If I forgot any archetypes let me know. I might get around to adding them eventually.

Things I basically insta-Lose to:
Magic Guard CM Clefable: it straight up beats this team. There’s really nothing I can do about it. You could replace either Knock Off or Leech Seed with Sludge Bomb, but sludge Bomb is kinda meh against everything else and I’m okay losing to one mon if it helps me against most other teams. Unaware variants I just status J.
Sub CM meloetta: My ghost can’t touch it once its behind a sub and Chansey takes quite a bit from psyshock. If I can status it I can stall it out but most of the time I can’t status it. I usually end up spamming Seismic Toss with Blissey, let it KO me and then send in Gengar to burn it, but that’s an iffy countermeasure.
Crocune: The bitchy part about this thing is Pressure. Blissey can’t stall it out because of that ability. Venusaur can switch in pretty comfortably and seed it, but after a couble CMs giga drain’s not doing much and scald Burns will eventually finish me. A well played Crocune probably means I lose
Tricky Stuff
Mega-Tyranitar: if it doesn’t have crunch slowbro wall it for days. If it does, things are gonna die. When I see it I usually send in slowbro, use Toxic, and then spam Slack off in order to get as much mileage out of toxic as possible. Then I stall out turns with Aegislash’s King’s Shield while sacking things as necessary. Mega-TTar can usually take a bite out of my time, but it won’t beat me outright
Gothitelle: this things annoying. Usually it comes in on Venusaur though so I can knock off its damn scarf and then go for a Giga Drain for the kill. The biggest thing is it prevents me from really using Chansey which is annoying. Luckily, If I predict the switch in, I can switch to Aegislash or Gengar and start spreading status/nuking things with Shodow Ball
Mega-Mawhile: variants without Fire Fang or Knock Off are handled by Aegislash. If it does have one of those two moves though, I’m in trouble. Zapdos can Heat Wave it for a good chunk of damage and Gengar can revenge Wisp it. It likes to come in on Chansey a lot so I usually try to hit it with seismic toss on the switch for some chip damage
