- Silvally-Grass is a Grass-type defogger that can check Golem, Floatzel, and act as a defensive pivot. Silvally-Grass can also wall some pretty decent Pokemon, like Kecleon, Silvally-Water, and the aforementioned Golem.
- Silvally-Grass has a good match-up against hazard setters, like Golem, Gabite, and Sandslash. This is very valuable as a Defogger.
- Silvally-Grass is the only Silvally form that is immune to Leech Seed and Sleep Powder, so it has a better matchup against opponents that use those moves to stall or set-up, respectively, such as Bellossom and or Tangela.
- However, the popularity of Pinsir, Bronzor, and Abomasnow really hurt it, either because they outspeed and/or OHKO it or wall and status it.
- All of its attacking moves are special, leaving it easily walled by special tanks thanks to an overall lack of power. Examples of these walls include the aforementioned Bronzor, Grumpig, Dusclops, and Vigoroth.
- Silvally-Grass is easily worn down by hazards and status effects. This is because it lacks a reliable method of healing itself, as well as being pressured to come in on hazards to remove them.
- In addition, Silvally-Grass comes with opportunity cost, because if you run it, then you can't run other, better Silvally forms, like Water, Fighting, and Dragon.
- Finally, despite having a number of factors to separate itself, Silvally-Grass still faces competition as a bulky Grass-type from things like Gourgeist-Super, Tangela, and Roselia.
move 1: U-Turn / Parting Shot
move 2: Grass Pledge
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Defog
item: Grass Memory
ability: RKS System
nature: Timid
evs: 248 HP / 100 SpA / 160 Spe
Moves
- U-Turn gives Silvally-Grass the option to get out and not hard switch into the unknown. Its also a great way to maintain momentum against checks. Such checks include Gourgeist-Super and Defensive Roselia.
- Parting Shot is another decent option for a pivot move. It weakens the opponent while simultaneously switching, allowing for a momentum transition that also makes the switch safer. However, U-Turn is generally better because it can be used to deal the last bit of damage to the opponent if they're low, while switching into a Pokemon that does well against the opponent's remaining team. In addition, Parting Shot can be blocked by Soundproof and Clear Body users such as Mr. Mime and Metang.
- Ice Beam provides extremely valuable coverage to hit Pokemon like Altaria, Gabite, and other Grass-types, such as Offensive Roselia and Shiftry, normally wall Silvally-Grass.
- Defog provides valuable hazard removal for the team. Also, because of its typing, it generally has a good matchup against most setters.
Set Details
========
- 100 Special Attack is used to to OHKO Physically Defensive Altaria with Ice Beam.
- 160 Speed with Timid to outspeed Pokemon such as Servine, Monferno, and Shiftry.
Usage Tips
========
- Since Silvally-Grass is mainly a defogger, it should be switched into setters that it can check, like Golem or Gabite.
- Silvally-Grass should not be used to attack unless it can hit the opponent super-effectively. As such, it should focus on bringing in teammates safely who can threaten the foe. However, it can be used to finish off slower, weakened threats.
- Some Pokemon that usually Silvally-Grass usually checks occasionally run status moves, like Toxic Golem and Alolan Dugtrio, so watch out for those.
- Be careful about coverage moves from Pokemon like Floatzel, Silvally-Water, and Tangela.
- Use U-Turn/Parting Shot on things that Silvally-Grass outspeeds, but gets walled by. If the opponent is faster, then switch normally. That way you can switch into a partner that checks that wall, and keep the momentum going.
Team Options
========
- Silvally-Grass has a horrible match-up against the tiers fire-types like Rapidash, Simisear, and Monferno. Silvally-Grass pairs well with Fire-type checks like Golem or Altaria.
- Poison-type checks like Steel-types and Ground-types such like Bronzor and Dugtrio-A are useful ZU's Poison-types like Muk, Silvally-Poison, and Roselia, though Steels should be careful about Fire Punch from Assault Vest Muk.
- Silvally-Grass appreciates a Steel-type check like Rapidash, Simisear, and Combusken are all good for taking care of Steel-types like Bronzor, Mawile, or Metang.
- Silvally-Grass really appreciates a good cleric because it does not like getting statused, and Lickilicky is the best cleric in the tier, so that's a great option.
- Since Silvally-Grass doesn't have a lot of breaking power, it can be walled rather easily. Wallbreakers like Floatzel, Kadabra, or Raichu are valuable partners for their ability to KO these walls.
Other Options
=============
- Flamethrower can be used over Ice Beam for Abomasnow and Steel-types but generally Ice Beam is better outside of that. If Silvally-Grass does run it tho, run 248 HP / 124 SpA / 136 Spe (Timid) to outspeed Shiftry and OHKO Abomasnow.
- Thunderbolt can be used for Water-types like Swanna and Mareanie, but again, Ice Beam is generally better. Also, Grass Pledge hits most Water-types already.
- Toxic is useful for the special walls mentioned in checks and counters.
- A 252 HP / 72 Def / 184 Spe spread with a Timid nature could be used for a less offensive role. 184+ outspeeds Rotom-Fan, while the rest is for physical bulk.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Fire-Types**: Pokemon like Rapidash and Combusken can outspeed and easily OHKO Silvally-Grass.
**Poison-types**: Poison-types such as Muk, Mareanie, and Silvally-Poison force Silvally-Grass to pivot out and can freely setup on it, set hazards, or threaten to 2HKO it respectively. They can also take pretty much any attack Silvally-Grass throws at them, though Offensive Roselia can't take an Ice Beam.
**Steel-types**: None of Silvally-Grass's attacks do that much to Steel-types like Bronzor and Probopass. In addition to that, these two also have their own individual problems. Bronzor wears Silvally-Grass down with Toxic and Probopass can gradually chip away at Silvally-Grass's health and set rocks for free.
**Status Users**: Silvally-Grass doesn't like to be statused. Yes, it can U-Turn out, but once its back in, the effects of the status will really hurt it.
**Bulky Pokemon**: Silvally-Grass doesn't have a lot of breaking power, with only 251 Special Attack. As such, things like Avalugg, Grumpig, and Vigoroth can wall anything Silvally-Grass tries to do, especially with their reliable recovery options. Toxic is useful for these, because they really don't like chip damage, but if Silvally-Grass doesn't have it, it'll be forced to switch out.
**Wallbreakers**: While Silvally-Grass is decently bulky, that bulkiness can only go so far. Combusken, Pinsir, Abomasnow, and Oricorio are just a few examples of things that break through its defenses
