[OVERVIEW]

Simipour's solid Speed tier, high Special Attack, and great coverage make it a top-tier offensive threat in the metagame that every team must prepare for. Between its Water-type STAB moves hitting much of the tier for neutral damage, Ice Beam hitting Grass-types such as Maractus and Vileplume, and Hidden Power Electric threatening checks such as Tentacool and Mantine, Simipour forces many switches and has the power to beat almost all of its checks with correct prediction. With access to Nasty Plot, it can also become a devastating mid- or late-game sweeper, taking advantage of forced switches or more passive checks like Tentacool to set up a Substitute and sweep with considerable ease. However, Simipour's fragility limits its longevity and switch-in opportunities. It also relies on correct prediction to succeed, as teams that stack checks like Scraggy and Tentacool punish Simipour if it predicts incorrectly.

[SET]
name: Choice Item Attacker
move 1: Scald / Surf
move 2: Ice Beam
move 3: Hidden Power Electric
move 4: Hydro Pump
item: Choice Scarf / Choice Specs
ability: Torrent
nature: Timid
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Scald is the best STAB option, with the burn chance being great for wearing down switch-ins that aren't immune to Water. Still, Surf's slightly better power is somewhat useful for cleaning. Hidden Power Electric hits most Water-types, OHKOing Mantine after Stealth Rock and wearing down Tentacool. Hydro Pump is a powerful attack mainly used for wallbreaking. Choice Scarf allows Simipour to outspeed the entire unboosted tier, acting as a solid revenge killer against Pokemon like Zebstrika and Jumpluff. Choice Specs turns Simipour into a fearsome wallbreaker, notably being able to 2HKO Scraggy and Beheeyem after Stealth Rock.

Due to Simipour's fragility, a solid defensive core can provide switch-ins to the threats that force it out, as well as opportunities to safely get in. Scraggy and Stunfisk can take advantage of standard offensive threats like Beheeyem and Zebstrika by setting up or setting Stealth Rock, respectively. Klang is a solid tank that does not mind Scalds from Simipour switch-ins like Frillish and Tentacool due to Rest, and it can bring Simipour in safely with Volt Switch. In return, Simipour forces out opposing Ground-types such as Torterra. Offensive Pokemon like Jumpluff and Zebstrika synergize well with Simipour because they force out Water-types like Tentacool for it. Entry hazards from setters like Dwebble and Marcatus are also useful, as they can guarantee OHKOs on Pokemon like Dodrio, Zebstrika, and Shiftry.

[SET]
name: Substitute + Nasty Plot
move 1: Substitute
move 2: Nasty Plot
move 3: Surf / Hydro Pump
move 4: Ice Beam / Hidden Power Electric
item: Salac Berry
ability: Gluttony / Torrent
nature: Timid
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
This set takes advantage of the many switches Simipour forces to make it an even stronger, and more flexible, wallbreaker than Choice Specs allows. Surf is consistent, while Hydro Pump allows for obscene feats like 2HKOing Tentacool at +2 after Stealth Rock with Torrent activated. Ice Beam gives Simipour solid neutral coverage to hit Grass-types like Torterra and Maractus, while Hidden Power Electric hits Water-types like Mantine and Frillish. A Salac Berry makes Simipour outspeed the entire unboosted tier and most Choice Scarf Pokemon when eaten. Torrent turns Simipour into a more fearsome wallbreaker; however, this comes at the cost of being weaker to priority.

Due to the explosive nature of this set, it fits on dedicated offense teams. Leads such as Rampardos, Dwebble, and Glalie can set entry hazards to wear down Simipour's checks, as well as being easier to fit on offense teams than other entry hazards setters like Stunfisk and Bronzor. Monferno is a solid partner, forcing out Scraggy and Klang, which can otherwise break Simipour's Substitute and prevent it from setting up, while bringing it in with U-turn. In return, Simipour can help wear down shared checks like Swanna and Tentacool, forming a solid offensive core. Zebstrika is a revenge killer for offensive teams that appreciates Simipour threatening Ground-types like Stunfisk. In return, it can force out Water-types like Mantine for Simipour. Klang and Mawile are defensive options that can check Grass-types like Simisage and pivot back into Simipour.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Bulky Water-types**: Tentacool and Chinchou are two common Pokemon that resist Water and can handily switch into most of Simipour's moves. While Tentacool lacks recovery, Chinchou can use Rest to heal itself back up. Frillish is less common, but it has reliable recovery and is harder to wear down, since Water Absorb heals it upon switching into Simipour's STAB moves. Mantine and Swanna both resist Water, but they are shakier switch-ins due to their weakness to Stealth Rock and 4x weakness to Hidden Power Electric.

**Grass-types**: Despite their dislike of Ice Beam, defensive Grass-types such as Maractus and Vileplume can switch into Simipour's STAB moves and use a free turn to set up Spikes or Growth, respectively. Offensive Grass-types like Shiftry and Jumpluff can take advantage of Choice item Simipour not locked into Ice Beam by setting up Nasty Plot or Swords Dance.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Pokemon with naturally high Special Defense, such as Audino and Zwelious, can switch into most Simipour sets at least once while threatening to break its Substitute. Special mention goes to Scraggy for switching into Choice Scarf sets and making them setup fodder by healing status with Shed Skin and recovering with Rest.

**Offensive Pressure**: Faster Pokemon such as Zebstrika, Jumpluff, and Rapidash can all force Simipour out with super effective moves, allowing them to pivot or set up. Choice Scarf users such as Dodrio can also force Simipour out, but they cannot outspeed the Choice Scarf set. Weather sweepers such as Golduck and Victreebel can easily revenge kill Simipour as long as their respective weather is up.

**Priority**: Simipour's vulnerability to all entry hazards and fragility means that residual damage stacks up. This makes it easy to get Simipour into the range of priority users such as Purugly and Shiftry.

However, Simipour's fragility and vulnerablity to entry hazards (this applies to most mons tbh) limits its longevity, and it lacks opportunities to arrive on field unharmed. It also relies on correct prediction to succeed, as teams that stack checks like Scraggy and Tentacool punish Simipour if it predicts incorrectly.

[SET]
name: Choiced Attacker

move 2: Ice Beam
move 3: Hidden Power Electric / Hidden Power Grass
move 4: Hydro Pump

EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Scald is the optimal choice for a consistent STAB option, with the burn chance being great for wearing down switchins that aren't immune to Water. Surf has a bit more power, which is useful for cleaning, but the burn chance of Scald makes it generally more useful. Hidden Power Electric hits most Water-types, OHKOing Mantine after Stealth Rock and being more useful for wearing down Tentacool. Hidden Power Grass hits Chinchou and Relicanth harder, with both being able to hit Frillish. Hydro Pump is a powerful attack mainly used for breaking. Choice Specs turns Simipour into a fearsome breaker, notably being able to 2HKO Scraggy and Beheeymen after Stealth Rock. Choice Scarf allows Simipour to outspeed the entire unboosted tier, acting as a solid revenge killer against Pokemon like Zebstrika and Jumpluff. (again, swap these 2. scarf makes simipour into one of the very best revenge killers in the format period, whereas specs enjoys a good portion of its viability from ppl expecting scarf)

Due to Simipour's fragility, a solid defensive core can provide switch-ins to the threats that force Simipour out, while providing it opportunities to safely get in. Scraggy and Stunfisk can take advantage of standard offensive threats like Beheeyem and Zebstrika by setting up or setting Stealth Rock, respectively. Klang is also a solid tank that does not mind Scalds from Simipour switch-ins like Frillish and Tentacool due to Rest, and can bring Simipour in safely with Volt Switch. In return, Simipour threatens out opposing Ground-types such as Torterra. Rain support from Pokemon like Volbeat can help augment Simipour's power, making it either an insanely powerful breaker or a strong cleaner depending on the item. Common Rain partners like Golduck and Mantine can help wear down shared checks like Tentacool. (taking out the rain mentions, since thats not the primary focus of the set. that being said though, i would add in a line about good offensive partners for simipour that synergize, like zebstrika or jumpluff.)

move 4: Ice Beam / Hidden Power Electric

[SET COMMENTS]
This set takes advantage of the many switches Simipour forces to turn into a stronger breaker than even Choice Specs allows, letting it change moves while having the protective capabilities of a Substitute. Surf gives Simipour a consistent damage output (so why does the first set prefer scald and this one prefer surf?), while Hydro Pump allows for obscene feats like 2HKOing Tentacool at +2 after Stealth Rock with Torrent activated. Ice Beam gives Simipour solid neutral coverage to hit Grass-types like Torterra and Maractus, while Hidden Power Electric hits Water-types like Mantine and Frillish. A Salac Berry makes Simipour outspeed the entire unboosted tier and most Choice Scarf Pokemon when eaten, and should always be run with Gluttony to ensure early activation. However, Water Gem + Torrent provide immense power, especially when used with Hydro Pump, at the cost of being easier to revenge kill. (the main reason to run Torrent is to make Simipour a lot more multifaceted with this set, effectively making simipour its own wallbreaker. With torrent, u can np in the midgame and break, then sub up and just take the salac and torrent to sweep later. getting both is also great, but u r 100% right about making simipour a lot weaker to priority. also water gem is very niche, to the point where i wouldnt recommend it)

Due to the more explosive nature of this set, it fits on more offensive teams that appreciate its ability to quickly snowball. Leads such as Rampados, Dweeble, and Glalie can set entry hazards to wear down Simipour's checks. Monferno is a solid partner, forcing out Scraggy and Klang, who can otherwise break Simipour's Substitute and prevent it from setting up, while bringing it in with U-turn. In return, Simipour can help wear down shared checks like Pelipper Swanna and Tentacool, forming a solid offensive core. Zebstrika is a speed control option for offensive teams that appreciates entry hazards to wear down its checks and Simipour threatening Ground-types like Stunfisk. In return, it can force out Water-types like Mantine for Simipour. (theres no mention of defensive partners here, but things like klang or mawile that can take blows and slow turn back in are handy.)

Checks and Counters
===================

**Bulky Water-types**: Tentacool and Chinchou are two common Pokemon that resist Water and can handily switch into most of Simipour's moves. While Tentacool lacks recovery, Chinchou can use Rest to heal itself back up. Frillish is less common, but has reliable recovery and is more resistant to being worn down due to Water Absorb letting it heal itself if it switches into Simipour's STAB. Mantine and Pelipper Swanna both resist Water, but are shakier switchins due to their weakness to Stealth Rock and 4x weakness to Hidden Power Electric.

**Scraggy**: Scraggy can often abuse Simipour by switching into a coverage option and turning it into setup fodder, while healing off status with Shed Skin and recovering with Rest. It can also stop Substitute sets from setting up, although it will most likely trade instead of win. (i think this should be expanded to "specially defensive pokemon" cuz audino and even zweilous can do most of what scraggy can do in this example, i.e. take a hit and break subs. however, ur right that scraggy should get an extra special mention due to how hard it can beat scarf)

**Offensive Pressure**: Faster Pokemon such as Zebstrika, Jumpluff, and Rapidash can all force Simipour out with super effective moves, allowing them to pivot or set up. Choice Scarf users such as Dodrio and Fraxure can also force Simipour out, but they cannot outspeed the Choice Scarf set. Rain and Sun abusers such as Golduck and Victreebel can easily revenge kill Simipour as long as their respective weather is up.

**Residual Damage**: Simipour's vunerability to all entry hazards and fragility means that all residual forms of damage stack up, from stray U-turns to Stealth Rock damage. Too much residual damage can also hinder Substitute sets from setting up. (my personal opinion is that this section should instead be replaced by a mention of priority. in zeb's case, it lives or dies by hazards. monkey is only inconvenienced, but its more important to bring simipour into range for the actual money: priority from either shiftry sucker or monkerno mach)

(one more thing: add a mention of grass types. maractus, vileplume, and even shiftry are all worth mention.)

the main thing that covers all of my changes was that i wanted to keep it as standard as possible. the best example is pelipper being swapped a lot for swanna or mantine, since pelipper has been very mediocre for a while now. even so, this was good so just do the changes and qc 1/2

Torrent allows Simipour to achieve the aforementioned damage roll as well as turning turns Simipour into a more fiercesome fearsome wallbreaker. H, however, this comes at the cost of being weaker to priority and more reliant on Salac Berry to avoid revenge killing attempts. (I think both sets are reliant enough on Salac to get rid of this bit, the same faster rkers that take you out at 25 are probably still taking you out at 50)

Good read overall, I think you may be rating Gluttony a little highly on the NP set as the power boost from Torrent is what really pushes simi over the edge, but the info you gave all said that, imo it was just in the wrong order. will have a further discussion with other qc members but either way, nicely done!

e: we will consider gluttony/torrent personal preference on the np set but I personally would still prefer torrent first. you can change it if you like, just make sure to also change them in the description if you do

Simipour's solid Speed tier, high Special Attack, and great coverage make it a top-tier (added hyphen) offensive threat in the metagame that every team must prepare for. Between its Water-type STAB moves hitting much of the tier for neutral damage, Ice Beam hitting Grass-types such as Maractus and Vileplume, and the Hidden Power of its choice hitting Hidden Power Electric threatening (should chinchou still be here even though hp grass isn't mentioned? up to you) checks such as Tentacool, Mantine, and Chinchou, Simipour forces many switches and has the power to beat almost all of them its checks with correct prediction. With access to Nasty Plot, it can also become a devastating mid- to or late-game sweeper, taking advantage of forced switches or more passive checks like Tentacool to set up a Substitute and sweep with considerable ease. However, Simipour's fragility limits its longevity, and it lacks opportunities to arrive on field unharmed. longevity and switch-in opportunities. It also relies on correct prediction to succeed, as teams that stack checks like Scraggy and Tentacool punish Simipour if it predicts incorrectly.

Scald is the optimal choice for a consistent best STAB option, with the burn chance being great for wearing down switch-ins (added hyphen) that aren't immune to Water. Surf has a bit more power, which is useful for cleaning, but the burn chance of Scald makes it generally more useful. Still, Surf's slightly better power is somewhat useful for cleaning. Hidden Power Electric hits most Water-types, OHKOing Mantine after Stealth Rock and being more useful for wearing down Tentacool.

Due to Simipour's fragility, a solid defensive core can provide switch-ins to the threats that force Simipour out, while providing it it out, as well as opportunities to safely get in. Scraggy and Stunfisk can take advantage of standard offensive threats like Beheeyem and Zebstrika by setting up or setting Stealth Rock, respectively. Klang is also a solid tank that does not mind Scalds from Simipour switch-ins like Frillish and Tentacool due to Rest, and it can bring Simipour in safely with Volt Switch. In return, Simipour threatens forces out opposing Ground-types such as Torterra. Offensive Pokemon like Jumpluff and Zebstrika synergize well with Simipour due to both of them forcing because they force out Water-types like Tentacool for Simipour. it. Entry hazards from setters like Dwebble and Marcatus are also useful, as entry hazards can turn rolls into guaranteed they can guarantee OHKOs on Pokemon like Dodrio, Zebstrika, and Shiftry.

[SET COMMENTS]
This set takes advantage of the many switches Simipour forces to turn into a stronger breaker than even Choice Specs allows, letting it change moves while having the protective capabilities of a Substitute. Surf gives Simipour a consistent damage output, make it an even stronger—and more flexible—wallbreaker than Choice Specs allows. (this should either specify something like "as opposed to Gluttony" or "however, Simipour is vulnerable to priority when it's active".)

Due to the more explosive nature of this set, it fits on more offensive teams that appreciate its ability to quickly snowball. dedicated offense teams. (I imagine?) Leads such as Rampardos, Dwebble, and Glalie can set entry hazards to wear down Simipour's checks. (pretty applicable to all offensive pokemon; if you want to keep, pls be more specific w benefits or synergy) Monferno is a solid partner, forcing out Scraggy and Klang, who which can otherwise break Simipour's Substitute and prevent it from setting up, while bringing it in with U-turn. In return, Simipour can help wear down shared checks like Swanna and Tentacool, forming a solid offensive core. Zebstrika is a speed control option revenge killer for offensive teams that appreciates entry hazards to wear down its checks and Simipour threatening Ground-types like Stunfisk. In return, it can force out Water-types like Mantine for Simipour. Klang and Mawile are defensive options that can check Grass-types like Simisage and pivot back into Simipour.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Bulky Water-types**: Tentacool and Chinchou are two common Pokemon that resist Water and can handily switch into most of Simipour's moves. While Tentacool lacks recovery, Chinchou can use Rest to heal itself back up. Frillish is less common, but it has reliable recovery and is more resistant to being worn down due to Water Absorb letting it heal itself if it switches into Simipour's STAB. harder to wear down, since Water Absorb heals it upon switching into Simipour's STAB moves. Mantine and Swanna both resist Water, but they are shakier switch-ins (added hyphen) due to their weakness to Stealth Rock and 4x weakness to Hidden Power Electric.

**Grass-types**: Despite their dislike of Ice Beam, defensive Grass-types such as Maractus and Vileplume can switch into Simipour's STAB moves and abuse a free turn by setting to set up Spikes or Growth, respectively. Offensive Grass-types like Shiftry and Jumpluff can take advantage of a Choice item Simipour not locked into Ice Beam by setting up Nasty Plot or Swords Dance.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Pokemon with naturally high Special Defense, such as Audino and Zwelious, can switch into most Simipour sets at least once while threatening to break Simipour's its Substitute. Special mention goes to Scraggy because it can often abuse Simipour by for switching into Choice Scarf sets and turning it into setup fodder, while healing off making them setup fodder by healing status with Shed Skin and recovering with Rest.

Weather abusers sweepers such as Golduck and Victreebel can easily revenge kill Simipour as long as their respective weather is up.

**Priority**: Simipour's vulnerability to all entry hazards and fragility means that all residual forms of damage stack residual damage stacks up. This makes it easy to get Simipour into the range of priority users such as Purugly and Shiftry.
