In the 5th generation, they introduced us to the 3 elemental monkeys, Simisear, Simipour and Simisage. Simisage is the grass one, As Simipour is the water one and Simisear is the fire one.
Overview
-It has a pretty good movepool for a grass type.
-It has above average speed of 101, Which allows you to outspeed base 100 which can be very useful
-It's abilities can both be used in different situations, especially when the pinch berries come out. Gluttony, Which can be used mainly when the pinch berries are released. Overgrow could also be used with a set identical as the set mentioned above.
-It can go both ways as in Physical/Special attack.
Simisage (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Gluttony
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Leech Seed
- Substitute
- Leaf Storm/Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Ice]
This set can abuse it's above average speed since not many things outspeed Simisage. This was like the Sub Seeding Sceptile from 4th gen. The set is pretty much self-explanatory, You Sub on a switch or on a status move. and leech seed and thanks to Simisage's low hp stat so it has an easier time subbing. Leaf Storm/Giga Drain/ is all in your preference, Leaf Storm is more of a 1 shot move. A nice powerful attack, You could use Giga Drain for recovery along with Leech Seed.
Nasty Plot Sweeper.
Simisage (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Gluttony
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Focus Blast
- Energy Ball
- Hidden Power [Rock]
This makes Simisear's Decent Special Attack and make it into a deadly weapon. After a Nasty Plot, You reach a maximum 590 special attack, Which isn't anything to frown upon. This thing will hit hard if you let it set up, You run HP Rock because it hits Flying types and Fire types but you're missing grass so guys like Amoongus and Tangrowth will take a hit and KO you. You could use HP Ice to hit the Flying/Grass. It depends what your team structure.
(Dream World)
Simisage (M) @ Petaya Berry
Trait: Overgrow
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Focus Blast
- Energy Ball
- Hidden Power [Ice]
This set uses the Dream World ability Overgrow which is an signature ability that the starters have. This set abuses the Overgrow ability and the Petaya Berry and to sweep without setting up. This set is self explanatory. You sub on the switch or on a pokemon and once you get to your overgrowth range and petaya berry you fire off Energy Balls. Focus Blast are for Steel types, Hidden Power Ice for flying/grass types that can wall you.
Other Options: Simisage could use an acrobatics set with seed bomb and acrobatics but it isn't worth it since Sceptile does it's job 10x better. You could use an Choice Specs set and hit something hard but the Nasty Plot set outclasses it.
Counters: Countering Simisage is pretty easy, most bulky grass types wall it like Amoongus, Meganium and bulky special walls that resist it's stab like Mandibuzz and Articuno that can KO with Brave Bird and Ice Beam. Also, Guys that outspeed Simisage can counter it like Scolipede, Durant and Accelgor.
