If you max his happiness you don't have to do it again unless you use berries that decrease happiness or loose a non wifi battle with it.

If you use soothe bell and happiness power level 3 it will be at level 15-20 I think. You can use EV reducing berries as well.
I think there is a girl in laverre city that tells you the happiness in words.
