I read in Swampert's analysis that a Choice Band set can be used. What niche does CB Swampert have over offensive water-types?
Its Ground-type and the fact it's one of the few physical Water-types which is able to pivot thanks to Flip Turn.
CB Swampert has a few things going for it;
- secondary stab that 2HKOes Amoonguss & Slowking / OHKOes (or comes close to it) some other Water resists (Keldeo, some Primarina, Tentacruel) which makes its switchin pool limited and kinda weird
- Ice Punch lets it nuke Salamence which is pretty notable among physical Water types
- Ground typing lets it block Volt Switch and means it's not scared out by some things other Water breakers would be forced to switch by (Raikou, Rotom-H for instance)
- flip turn hits pretty hard
the tier just doesn't have a whole lot of water types that can go physical so pert is unique in that sense, it's just generally very prediction heavy and the reward often isn't great if you run into something like a rotom or tangrowth. fun af to use if you really wanna try it though

Thanks. Also, what is the reason for using Liquidation on CB Swampert?
Mainly for the 2HKO on Hippowdon. Sometimes you could replace it for Superpower for Zarude, but it isn’t as common anymore with Cobalion being arguably the best mon in the tier.
Why is Mienshao bammed from UU?
One of the reasons was that it was just amazing at making progress with U-turn + Knock Off and could stifle enemy attempts at making progress versus it via Regenerator. It also gained more consistent STAB with Close Combat this generation.
I wasn't here for the suspect but I imagine that's part of the reasoning.

It's probably viable but there isn't much of a reason to use it over Choice Specs. Steel-types like Scizor and Cobalion are hit by any of Hydreigon's other moves neutrally/super effectively. In Cobalion's case, it's worn down incredibly fast by Draco Meteor and even Dark Pulse does a lot, and Scizor can't take Dark Pulse anyways. It's also not the type of Pokemon that wants to get worn down as fast as it does with how valuable its defensive utility is. It can run Leftovers or Life Orb. Black Glasses is probably fine too.

Are tournament battles strictly 1v1 or can players have someone playing with and coaching them?
Tournaments are always 1v1, doing this would classify as ghosting which is a punishable offense that will get you infracted and either tournament banned (if an official tour or part of a circuit tour) or at minimum team tour banned if in a subforum-pl style tour if lucky.
The only time it is allowed is in specific ghosting tours such as the Slips seance ghosting tour going on rn (https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/slips-seance-uu-ghosting-tournament-100-prize-signups.3708765/) which are unofficial fun tours designed to allow a team to communicate during a match.
Ghosting: Ghosting is defined as giving any piece of advice to someone playing a game. Any form of direct advice is considered ghosting. A player should be able to make their own decisions based on what they observe by themselves. Asking for suggestions or affirmation adds an unfair dynamic and greatly reduces the chances of making mistakes. Our tournaments are designed to be tests of individual skill, not the skill of one player with the support of others providing suggestions or preventing bad plays. Playing a game while in a voice call with someone else will always be treated as ghosting of the highest severity.
we have been discussing still having 1 more vr update soon(ish) now that SCL is over. This will be the last update for now in gen8uu if it happens, but gen8uu wont actually be "ended" or anything, it'll become one of our oldgens and will still be a format that sees tournament play in uu team tours and potentially classic as well as be featured as part of our tour nights system. When this happens a VR thread will end up being hosted under the RoA SS forum instead, and we will also host a version of it under our OldGenHub thread as we currently do, and changes will likely still happen after major team tours.
Gen9UU will be starting in December, we'll have the usage stats to generate what mons are in it on the 1st, although PS may not update immediately. In the mean time we will be hosting regular tours in the UU room to make sure people can play the format until it is functional on PS.
