[SET]
Defensive Pivot (Slowbro) @ Heavy-Duty Boots / Rocky Helmet / Colbur Berry
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Scald / Body Press
- Future Sight
- Teleport
- Slack Off / Thunder Wave
[SET COMMENTS]
Slowbro takes advantage of its stellar physical bulk, Regenerator, and Teleport to act as an excellent bulky pivot. Scald is preferred for its good chance to permanently hinder most physical attackers such as Mega Scizor and Landorus-T while also deterring foes like Zapdos and Gholdengo. Body Press can be used while holding a Colbur Berry to survive a hit from Mega Tyranitar, Kingambit, and Hisuian Samurott, allowing Slowbro to retaliate with Body Press. Future Sight is used in combination with Teleport to help offensive teammates such as Mega Lopunny, Urshifu-R, and Zamazenta break Pokemon like Toxapex and Alomomola. Thunder Wave is an alternative to Slack Off that punishes Pokemon such as Volcarona, Ogerpon-W, and Dragapult that attempt to set up in front of Slowbro and permanently hinders switch-ins like Tapu Lele and Tornadus-T that Slowbro otherwise struggles against. Heavy-Duty Boots affords Slowbro much more freedom to pivot, while Rocky Helmet punishes weak contact moves, such as Landorus-T's U-turn, and resisted hits from Pokemon such as Urshifu-R and Mega Medicham.
Slowbro fits best on balance and bulky offense teams that feature Pokemon such as Urshifu-R and Zamazenta that benefit from its Future Sight and pivoting capabilities while answering Kingambit and Hisuian Samurott, which Slowbro struggles to beat. Slowbro can also be paired with fellow Regenerator users such as Tornadus-T to form a double Regenerator core, with Tornadus-T answering Grass-type Pokemon such as Kartana and Ogerpon-W. Teammates like Ferrothorn and Gliscor can help against Tapu Koko and Raging Bolt, which Slowbro struggles against. In return, Slowbro deals with Urshifu-R and Mega Medicham. Dark-type Pokemon such as Mega Tyranitar, Kingambit, and Ting-Lu pair well with Slowbro, as they deal with Gholdengo and Dragapult, which easily break Slowbro: the former two teammates have the added boon of Pursuit to forcibly remove these Ghost-types and help stave off Choice-locked Tapu Lele.
