Hello to all. I put together this team a while ago, and recently made some edits to it. It is pretty different than my other one, and I was looking to get some feedback on this version of it. Each Pokemon has a role on this team, and they will all be explained below. So here it is:
(NOTE: EV spread suggestions are greatly appreciated, as I am bad at creating them. For the most part, I just use the suggested spreads, but I know that there are better ones I could be running.)
Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
I chose Ferrothorn because I needed something to deal with water types, and I wanted a better lead. The Ferrothorn is, as you can tell, my set-up. I generally lead with it, setting up the spikes using his admirable bulk. I mostly am able to get up a few layers of spikes before he gets KOed by a fire type move. Also, he is very susceptible to being burned, so a Lum Berry could also be a viable item. He has 0 speed IVs as well so that his Gyro Ball will do maximum damage. Ferrothorn isn't going to be outspeeding anything anyways...
Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Ice Fang
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
I chose this Gyarados because I have had it sweep me multiple times, so I decided to make my own adaptation of one. This Gyarados will ruin your day unless you run a Rotom-W. Gyarados has enough bulk to live one non-super-effective hit most of the time, allowing him to set up one d-dance. This 1.5x speed is enough for him to outspeed most common threats with the a speed of 261, becoming 392 with the boost. It also has decent coverage. The earthquake will take out electric types, waterfall dealing with the rock types, and ice fang dealing with other things such as grass that neither of the other two can deal withthe moxie boost, he can hit extremely hard.
Thundurus @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 76 Atk / 180 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Knock Off
- Superpower
- Hidden Power [Ice]
I chose Thundurus because I needed a special attacker, and I saw the potential in Thundurus, even though he is rarely used. This Thundurous seems to go to either extreme for me. Either he demolishes, or he just gets killed right off of the bat without doing very much damage, 50% at the most in these scenarios. But his set, as you can tell, is a mixed sweeper set. Thunderbolt is his most powerful attack, what with stab, knock off will deal with annoying items such as scarves. Superpower is here to hit things such as rock that nothing else he has can. HP Ice is just for there for more coverage. He can also be used to deal with annoying Pokemon that have the ability Intimidate, using defiant to instead raise his attack.
Tyranitar @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch
- Dragon Dance
- Stone Edge
This Tyranitar is on my team because I originally needed a stealth rocks user, and he seemed to be a good choice. His role has now been changed however, and I am contemplating replacing him. Similarly to the Thundurus, Tyranitar can go either way for me. I used to run him as a stealth rocker, but with the addition of my Ferrothorn his role has switched to one of a d-dancer. With his 403 attack, even just the 1.5x boost can be enough to fuel OHKOs. Tyranitar also has decent bulk, and can take 1 or 2 hits to get his d-dances up. His set is rather similar to that of the Gyarados, but I think that Gyarados does a better job of it. Tyranitar has only stayed around for me due to his typing and rock moves that only he has currently on my team.
Smeargle @ Salac Berry
Ability: Own Tempo
EVs: 244 HP / 12 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Spore
- Baton Pass
- Belly Drum
- Substitute
Ah, the Smeargle. With banned moody... His role on my team is just to allow Scizor to get quad attack at no cost to his own health, the reason he was chosen for my roster. In addition to the 4x attack he provides, he is holding a Salac Berry to give his baton-passee a 1.5x speed boost. If my Scizor is no longer aroung at the time of Smeargles appearance, he can also give this boost to any Pokemon that is still alive, namely Gyarados.
Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Superpower
- Bullet Punch
- Swords Dance
- Roost (Possibly Bug Bite)
Finally we have Mega-Scizor, the one who carries this team on his back. Scizor is an absolute beast, and he was recruited for this reason. He sweeps so well, and few can withstand his might. And if he gets the belly drum-baton pass, he will be able to take a fair number of hits as well. This is significant becuase if his bullet punch will not kill, he will be able to get a superpower (or bug bite if it ends up being used) off. The reason that bug bite is suspect is because Roost is only needed if Smeargle doesn't work. There is almost no reason for the Scizor to know roost outside of healing himself while Swords dancing, which the belly drum eliminates the need for. If he is forced to use his Swords Dance, roost is necessary, but if Smeargle is successful, it is more useful to have Bug Bite. Which do you think is more helpful to run?
