Thanks again to MiniArchitect for the logo!

Welcome to the seventh Smogon Classic! This tournament celebrates Smogon's and Pokemon's history throughout the years. Players will compete in separate tournaments for the RBY, GSC, ADV, DPP, and BW generations, culminating in a play-off stage where the contestants must play all generations with this amazing trophy on the line:

The format is the same as previous editions and consists of five separate tournaments: The BW Cup, The DPP Cup, The ADV Cup, The GSC Cup, and The RBY Cup. Each tournament is single elimination, best of three. Depending on your performance in a Cup, you will be awarded points. The point system is the same as the one used in Smogon Tour (see this for further explanation). When all the Cups have been finished, the sixteen players with the most points will advance to the play-offs. There they will battle in a best of five series until there is one undisputed Smogon Classic champion.

Signups for each Cup will be posted a week after the signups for the previous Cup. Here is the list of the five Cups with the names of the hosts and the dates each signup thread will be posted:

  • The BW Cup - Hosted by Finchinator - July 26th
  • The DPP Cup - Hosted by emma - August 2nd
  • The ADV Cup - Hosted by Vileman - August 9th
  • The GSC Cup - Hosted by false - August 16th
  • The RBY Cup - Hosted by FriendOfMrGolem120 - August 23rd
If there are any questions, then you can post in this thread or message me on Discord (Boat#2573). Please do not use this thread as a venue to complain about the format.

Tiering changes to the metagames in this tournament might not immediately affect this tournament the round after they happen.

Have fun and good luck to everyone competing!

I've heard the reason why the DPP Cup deadline is 5 days-long is because the TDs want it to be aligned with BW Cup.

On the other hand, we could use a 2 week deadline to:
- Sub in more players as we currently have around 50 byes in the first round.
- Get a lot more games done as it leaves more time to schedule.
- Avoid some players having to sub out because they didn't expect this unprecedented change and couldn't compete in the first week.
- It's inconsistent with, not only the history of the tournament, but the other rounds of this very Classic as BW Cup is a 2 weeks long round.

If we're being real, all those reasons are a lot more important to the tournament's standing than the cups aligning. What is it gonna change anyway? The other cups will finish later than the DPP one anyway. Not to mention that DPP Cup has 256 pairings, which means it won't end in a round robin whereas some other Cups will, so aligning with BW Cup possibly/probably has 0 advantage in the long game.

Boat emma kjdaas Vileman BKC just highlighting the host(s) and some TDs to please consider this possibility.

To be clear, the reason the deadline was Sunday was not because I wanted it to align with BW Cup. https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/regarding-the-slam-and-classic-format.3679705/#post-8847486 The plan for this Classic was to do 1-week deadlines for all rounds of all cups, for the reasons explained in that thread and post. BW Cup had to be posted several days late, and so it was forced to be 2 weeks. At the time, I felt that posting DPP Cup on Tuesday afternoon still left enough time that the first Sunday deadline would have been fine. Clearly the community does not agree, and the change to a 1 week deadline was communicated very poorly by myself. The host / other TDs think that extending it is preferable, and so we'll be doing that. ADV Cup looks like it will be posted on time, and so we will resume one week deadlines starting with that.

Hey all, there's been an update to the Record sheet for this tournament. I took it upon myself, and at Perry's request, to create a new sheet that is more easy to maintain, updated the visuals, and kept all the features consistent with the previous version and it can be found here!

On behalf of Perry, we would like to thank McMeghan for their work with helping maintain the previous sheet. The new sheet will be maintained by Perry and me so please reach out to either of us if there are any issues. The sheet was only finished recently and while I tried to address all situations, some may have fell through the cracks. That being said, we are confident that it will perform well so I hope everyone enjoys it!
