I'm Mister Militia. I'm actually proud to say some people know me now, but for those who don't, get to know me :-P.
I love competitive gaming, From DBZ CCG, to MtG, to MLG Halo 3, I have been involved with it for a long time. Each of these has it's own message boards. But in all honesty, I must commend Smogon.
The Smogon boards are the most well organized, nicest, most accepting, and easiest to overall get acclimated to, community for a competitive game, I have ever seen.
While at times some people are elitist, this is no where NEAR what some other communities (the MLG vs Bungie war is like Smogon vs Serebii/Marriland x9000). Additionally, the moderators and badge holders are very personable, active, and above all, helpful.
Additionally many "regular users" are just as good a help. It is so amazing that you guys won't scare away new users (even if they do silly things like ignore the Simple Q, Simple A thread, you re-direct them with a welcoming "Welcome to Smogon"). You are very organized and it makes it easier for an up and comer to get better at the metagame.
In specific, I'd like to thank:
Tay: For the LNT's which allowed me to meet a few people.
MS/Matty: For being very personable, and recognizing/ remembering me, even as a new face.
Kevin Garrett (who makes me think of the celtics XD): for working with me while I had to make a match up.
Haunter: For his help in SQ,SA and RMT.
and I'm sure I'm forgetting some people.
Overall, give yourself a pat on the back, and continue forward.
