Smogon Simple Questions & Suggestions Thread

The closest I can think of are the Modern Gen X tiers in Pet Mods, but those include all new things like ‘mons and abilities and whatever, drawing from the old gens for mechanics rather than the base. I don’t believe there is any format that exists as you described, where it is an old gen but with the mons having new moves.

BDSP is like what you're looking for, but it's based on gen 4.
 
After alolan raichu, incin and a few others appeared with animated sprites, I wanna know, is there a place in the forums where I can see the progress of new sprites? Similar to how we can look at the progress of new analyses? With the qc place and whatnot?
 
Hi, I spoke to Samirsin in the Help Chat on Showdown, and they sent me here.

I'm having an issue with the Smogon website. Specifically the Pokemon analysis pages themselves. Sometime in the last week or two, something changed with the advertisements, and now I can't really use Smogon for more than 10 or 15 minutes before I have to end my browser session with the task manager due to runaway memory usage. Basically within moments of opening Pokemon pages memory starts climbing until it hits 99% and then freezes. This is incredibly frustrating as I play draft leagues, and often have multiple tabs open when teambuilding. I really like Smogon, and really haven't clicked with any other websites, but if something isn't changed I'm going to have to just stop using Smogon except for Showdown itself.

Not really sure what else to say, other than I'd really like to keep using Smogon.

Does this happen on any other websites or only Smogon? Have you tried using a different web browser?

It's just Smogon. I haven't really used any other browsers, as it was working perfectly fine before, and I mean c'mon does anyone think Chrome is gonna be better on memory usage? Basically if I leave my browser open with a Smogon tab, and I come back and open that page, it gives me an out of memory error. Your ad scripts keep endlessly loading and reloading ads, until memory usage causes errors.

disabling my adblocker yields similar results; with it enabled I've never run into any issues. I guess I should ask if there's any particular reason why you don't just have e.g. uBlock Origin running all hours of the day

Oh wow, I'm an idiot. An Opera update apparently broke my adblocker, heh. Good call. I just assumed it was an ad provider finding a way around the blocker in that back and forth that goes on. Good lookin out!

The best I can think of is the moveset option on the stats page. Find your stats month page of choice (eg the most recent), click 'moveset' up top, and then pick a metagame. From there, you can control-F (or equivalent) the move name to see if any Pokemon in the metagame uses it appreciably often.

corroborating the above reply, altho since the PS! ladder stats just round off super niche move choices to an "Other" category you may want to try sifting through tournament usage stats instead.

there isn't really a centralized smogon tournament usage stats aggregator, but you can usually find what you want by either perusing the Tournaments subforum or by entering "$METAGAME tournament usage" into the search bar (the former works better for big metagames like current-gen OU; the latter for more niche metas like old-gen lower tiers or OMs).

as an example: here's the page for Smogon Premier League XVI usage stats. the "Moves + Teammates" sections list everything that was used, even if only a single player brought them

there is no public thread where the artists actively show their spriting progress but every new batch of sprites is always showcased here
 
I feel this is the place to suggest this. I have a many hundreds of pages(too much free time lol,) conversation, and it's hard to find specific parts of it where I mention what I want to cover on my team, and then the whole reasoning behind what I pick, evs, etc. I can remember a keyword, so it'd help if I could look up, say, firepon or ting lu, and have that highlighted in pages of the conversation. Also by the same thing I could look up on this thread if this has already been suggested XD. I'm good about preserving sets on PS, but I lose the reasoning and that kinda stinks.

There is sandbox so you can write down what the set does and you can save it
