Smogon Simple Questions Thread

Hello.
I noticed today that you can't really use the searchbar to find threads which have "multiple word" sentences. For example, if you want to look up "Crunch Zamazenta" in the OU subforums, you won't get posts that directly have the words "Crunch" and "Zamazenta" together (like, right next to each other), you'll also get any post that includes both of those words even if they are at the opposite ends of the post.
Example:
View attachment 728527
Yet if I go into that post, and I "Control F" the sentence Crunch Zamazenta there are no results. Searching it via Google in quotation marks and "site:" doesn't work either, since you can't really use it for subforums. Sure you can use it for just https://www.smogon.com but you'll get results from every single thread, not just the specific one you are looking for.

Related yet unrelated, searchbar also has some issues when finding words that are "similar" in a way... If you look up "freezes" you won't get JUST posts with the word freezes specifically, you'll also get posts that have the word Freeze (like Freeze-Dry) in them, which can be really frustating.

TLDR: adding a "quotation marks" option sort of like Google and other search engines have would be really useful, ty :chatot:
search Crunch, Zamazenta

Hi,
what happened to the pokemon showdown client for windows PC ?

There used to be a download button for the setup file.

It's like deleted from the internet like in The Matrix.

I used the client for years, so I find that very disturbing.

It looks like the according forum section has also been deleted.

The only thing I found with a non-google search engine was a short reddit post about a nintendo takedown against the pokemon showdown client for mobile.

I figured this would be stated in the rules, but I couldn’t find anything on it regarding Smogon (though I did find something for PS! specifically)- is a banned user allowed multiple ban appeals, or do they only get one?

Idk if this is the right spot for this but I just got top 500 on the Doubles OU ladder and I wanna check if I got a badge, how do I?
Doubles OU only sometimes has medals, this 3 month period it doesn't. Additionally, medals are only for top 100, top 30, and top 3 and automatically get added at the end of every hour. The only tiers that permanently have medals are OU and Random Battles.

How do I delete a post?
There's a button at the bottom of your post like this:

__________^----- Right here

Hello! I have a huge issue on showdown and that being I don't remember my password at all and there's no other way for me to log back in. Is it possible that I can request a change password form or anything at all to get my account back?

looks like there is no way to reset it sorry.

waht determines "usually useless moves" I am pretty sure garchomp would never use moves like body slam, double edge, or crunch while moves like thunder fang vs fire fang is also smth despite them being equal in base power yet thunder fang is in usually useless.

Or how chilling water on latios isnt in usually useless despite surf being miles better yet icy wind sits in usually useless despite having a similar thing of giving the opponent a debugg

idk it’s by Pokémon but rather by tier. So like Follow Me is good in VGC so it is in useful moves. On the other hand, it sucks in singles, so it is labeled as usually useless.

Body Slam is generally good in most singles tiers, hence why it is put in useful moves.

Where do I report something minor on the Pokédex page? It's very miniscule so I could say it here, Vice Grip got reformatted to Vise Grip starting Gen 8, but the Dex still uses the old spelling

this thread would work

hmm so its just a general basis instead of a mon by mon. Guess it makes sense and it would be far to much effort to try to say "this is useless on x mon but usable on y mon"

I have a question on showdown if my pokemon gets hit with a move that does 99.1-99.9% does it KO or does my pokemon survive. Ive seen a time or two where my pokemon take 49.6% at 50% hp and it dies does it not survive with .4%?

The in-battle display will generally round up (though it does not display 100% for a pokemon that has less than full HP), which can result in an opponent that appears to have 50% HP remaining taking "more damage" than the calculator's displayed maximum of 49.6% due to the actual HP value being somewhere between 49.1% and 49.6%. This is in order to prevent additional information leaks, which could let you determine exact EV investment or provide more detailed information than possible on cartridge.

If your pokemon has full HP, then unless it gets hit by an attack that would do 100% or more of its HP in damage then it will survive a hit that's calculated to do 99.9% of its HP in damage, assuming that the calculation is accurate.

if i wanted to get involved with tournament directing, where would i start?
If you mean tournament hosting, you’re best of speaking to CLs of the sections you want to host for about their tours and see if they need any tour hosts. The tournament directors are in charge of the official circuit and tend to be pulled from a pool of experience hosts/policy makers, you can apply for that here.
