Smogon Simple Questions Thread

Hi! Quick question. What happened to the other themes on the site? Could've sworn there were other colors I could choose from.
 
When readding the themes to the site, I think it might be cool to make a theme for each of our major tournaments. I had the idea cuz the theme that's automatically on is "Smogon Classic", which of course would stay the same. But we could have a pinkish theme for Smogon Tour, a purplish theme for Masters, etc. Maybe even the SPL or other team tour themes could be based on the current holder.

This is very unlikely to happen. Each style needs to be manually maintained every update and each new style is an equal amount of work to fix. The reason the festive style itself isn't working right now is because it'd delay an already several-week-long forum update. Adding another 6-10 styles would exponentially complicate things. The two modes currently available still has bugs themselves that needs to be fixed.

It's to discourage people from camping high ladder. If not for decay, I could hit Top 10, not play another game, and I could come back months later with the only changes to my ranking coming from more people passing me on the ladder. To consistently be a top ladder player, you should understand how any given metagame evolves, and having to play games regularly enforces that idea. If I come back to a metagame in a state unrecognizable compared to that of when I left it, I'd have to spend time essentially learning a new tier, and a change in elo/ladder placement is designed to reflect that.

TL;DR it stops people from camping ladder and makes them know the metagame to keep their ranking, hope this helps :)

I'm doing a project on pokemon data analisys for my uni class and the data stock that I can find is outdated (only reaches the 6th generation). I was wondering if the data stock used for smogon/PS is available for me to use. And if so, where can I find it? Thank you!

It depends on exactly what you need. https://www.smogon.com/stats/ has usage stats dating back to 2014 as a starting point. The chaos/ folder for each month has the complete data while the txt files out of those are a summary.

They're not compiled, but older stats also start here in Pokemetrics (I believe these are as old as they go) and Antar's threads for 2012-2013 are at the bottom of this page
 
Hello, coming back from a trip I found my smogon account disabled (not banned), I would assume it got hacked or something since I saw some suspicious DMs in my linked mail that I never wrote, who could I contact to have it restored?
 
Hey does anyone know how to verify an account on the ruins of alph discord? It had instructions for inputting my showdown account, but I put both my profile name verbatim and a screenshot of me logged in and it still doesn't accept it. Any suggestions?

What I have tried already:

image first, then profile name

image, / verify profile name (while the image is ready to be sent with extra text)

And yes, my account is well over 30 days old.

The account age is for your forum account, not your discord/PS account.
edit: While I don't know what the reqs are in RoA, I do know that using your PS account with Chatot won't work. If RoA allows you to provide screens, then you'll need to wait for staff to manually approve you.

Here is the discord directions and it says I indeed can. When you scroll down from there, it even shows a sample screenshot of someone's profile. Unless it hasn't been updated and you're correct

I have a lock appeal on showdown but nobody answered even as i waited until the room expired, Is this a problem I should bring elsewhere? or should I not be posting this here?

edit: Idk, I really wanna deal with this and clear things out with somebody, sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place.

Should someone else have this question, your screen explains 3 entirely separate methods to verify in RoA:
  1. Link your forum profile in Chatot's /verify command. Your forum account must be at least a week old to work. This is an automated process that does not require server staff intervention.
  2. Post in the verification channel your PS username + a screenshot of you logged in. Your PS account must be at least 30 days old. Then wait.
  3. PM server staff.
Number 2 is an entirely manual process, so it will not automatically verify you. That's only in option 1. Option 1 doesn't apply because (a) it does not accept a PS name and (b) your forum account is too new. So my guess is Chatot has told your your account is too new try again in 6 days or it cannot find your account. If you have indeed followed option 2 (and you aren't already verified because Discord sometimes gets angry when your roles change and doesn't update the display), then it's just a matter of waiting for RoA staff to update your roles.

If all else fails, try 3.
