i wow what a question

i came here to
1) piss of my supporters from youtube and serebii.
2) because im a FTW and what others think kind of person (i hate smogon as a whole)
3) i play pro level in doubles (that might explain #s 1&2)
4) ehh practice on shoddy i guess
5) maybe there are some doubles people here who are sick of the singles tactics idk......probably not though.
why i stayed: who says im leaving?

Well, I'm actually a newbie here. :P
I got into pokemon long ago when i was around 6. I loved the Anime and the games at the time. I still play the games now (I'm 15.) and I like battling. Aulthough i havent figured out how to make my dumb router accept my DS for wifi >_>
I discovered Smogon through a link on Dragonfly Cave. I've actually been using the site for stratiges and such for quite a bit, but i just found the time to come visit the forums and register and stuff.

I've been playing pokemon for a while, but I've only recently gotten into the competitive scene. I've been using the references here for a while, but I decided to jump on the forums and get to know people so I could come up in the world. Everyone who's anyone doing well in the tournaments I'ven seen play with each other in things set up here. I decided I want to be a part of that. :)

I watched the TV show when I was 5, and bought Pokemon Gold a year and a half later. My Pokemon love continues.

I saw about this site on GameFAQs and searched for what it was. And I joined because... I dunno.

I stayed... oh wait. :P

Since I can't find an intro thread, I guess this will have to do.
I discovered Smogon last year battling random people on the Serebii wifi chat, when a person told me that I should check out the forums. I came and looked around, but didn't bother making an account since I didn't think I'd be too interested. However, I did stick around, using the site for strategies and such. Then one night I decided to explore the forums out of boredom, and ever since I've been coming in as a guest to read about all the stuff going on. Now I actually want to participate, and hopefully I will :)

I came here because I wanted to fight amoung good players, not those Youtube n00bs who think that Altaria is better than Salamence.

I found this site while looking for pokemon stats and such on google and it had really good ideas so i came back for more strategies and such so i joined XD. Also i was looking throught the threads and saw the balle me thread and i really wanted to battle new people instead of my noob friends

My Reason

I got into Pokemon almost at the beginning, but I didn't get an actual game until I was 11, when I also got my GBA. Besides the console games (XD, Stadium), I've played (and beaten) at least one game from every generation. Problem is with me, no one near me plays anymore, and since I have to walk two miles to use Wi-Fi, I tend to phase in and out. Losing my Pearl version with all of my strongest teams from Ruby, Sapphire, Fire Red, and Leaf Green didn't help either. Now, I'm just trying to regain what I lost, although I only possess Ruby and Diamond versions now.

I started playing pokemon around the age of 10.
I think I started when I saw the best friend playing it,
I really loved it for a long time.
after a really long time, I completed the Firered Dex,
Won DP, got bored, stopped playing.
Around the time of platinum coming out,
the same friend who got me started on pokemon
told me about "smogon university"
I looked around thought it looked cool, and started posting.
then, I downloaded shoddy battle, and haven't done much else sense.

Not sure when I started coming here, it was mostly for the strategy Pokedex at first, but since I realized smogon had a forum I lurked for quite a while. Been into Pokemon since the olden days, but not competitively until last year. I stayed because the community is interesting and I can get movesets and RMTs.

I first joined serebii forums to get some help for Battle Frontier-team in Emerald. There some of the people said that you should check out the Strategydex here on Smogon, to get some pinpointers on how to make pokes that are viable. I started to read there, and enjoyed reading those.

The reason I decided to join Smogon was actually the Tutoring rounds. During this vacation I finally decided to get shoddy, to give it a shot in competitive fighting. I had seen news on Smogons frontpage about tutoring round, and when i started with Shoddy, a new round was about to start. from there on, I have been lurking around a bit, reading RMTs and other threads, Hoping I can contribute to this site in some way later (probably tutoring, but who knows?)

I came to see if all the hype and trashtalk about this place was justified.

Been playing Pokemon since '98. Tried to quit after Gen III as I knew once I got into Gen IV's online play, there would be no coming back. Recently dragged back by a friend and by just how much I missed the game.

Have never played on the level of a competitive player, but am well beyond a "casual player" in knowledge and skill. Planning on moving up.

I started playing red/blue back in 98/99, when I was in 7th grade. My friend let me play on his game mornings before school started. He had a Charizard, and I thought "Woah, gnarly. I want that." So i went out and bought it.

I kept playing yellow version all through high school, but i never picked up gold/silver or ruby/sapphire. I just never really bothered with it. Then last year I was at the mall and saw the posters for Diamond/pearl outside of a gamestop. I thought Dialga and Palkia looked super bad-ass, and I told myself that I needed to get back in to pokemon. And so, here I am.

I stumbled upon smogon because I wanted to try to get into competetive battling. This is my first post.

I kept came back here because I had to take a poop in the middle of writing this post, and if I didn't come back to post this it would have been a tremendous waste of typing.

Right, well this is my first post here, and it makes sense to post it here...

I've been playing Pokemon since it first came out, and have been hooked on it ever since. I started getting involved competitively during ADV, but I never actually had Netbattle. I worked with theorymon, but when DP came out, it made me realise just how much you need proper experience to get the full idea of what your Pokemon can do and what other people will do. Also, prediction wasn't a big thing.

As for Smogon...well, who doesn't know about Smogon nowadays? Known throught the other communities for its well-deserved arrogance and elitist nature, I figured this would be the best place to study to improve.

My favourite Pokemon are ones that fit into the Dragon Egg Group, as they all look so awesome, and I'm rather taken with Water types too.

So...yeah. First post out the way.

well i looked up Raikou looking through the selections ,so then i clicked
here ,and started Looking through this site.I have not heard of the RNG process until now until now so i found out my Pokemon IVs via Metalkids calculator.I think i will come to like this site also i found about shoddy at the same time too.same way i found serebii and bulbapedia. That is how i found this site

Hello everyone. This is my first post of any real substance here on the Smogon forums. I was unable to find the "Introduce Yourself" topic, and I'm assuming that this is the appropriate substitute. But I digress...

My name is Harry, and I'm a competitive Pokemon player from the UK.

Some of you may be vaguely aware of my presence in various online communities. I first started to play Pokemon at a high level during 2006, as Generation 3 was drawing to a close. With the release of Diamond and Pearl I moved into Generation 4 and joined up on the Marriland Forums. After a period of activity there I formed my own small community, the Regi League, in November '07 (we're still going relatively strong :) ).

I've been using (and appreciating) the resources here at Smogon for quite sometime now. The compilation of articles detailing recommended movesets, team ideas, EV spreads etc. has been extremely helpful to me and certainly has progressed my game.

I plan to be relatively active here on the Smogon forums as I see an opportunity to get involved with a plethora of exciting projects, further my knowledge of the game and meet new friends. I'll see you around the boards.

i just came and joined recently =] got better info to make my new pokes better and just became a better battle and had fun its just the smogon experience =]

How are you doing everyone, my name is Tenzuku.

I came here on the smogon forums just to learn more and help out people with their team and such, because I just want to keep in touch with the Metagame, that's most of the reason I came to Smogon, I have been playing competitively since Diamond and Pearl came out, I started hanging out on Marriland forums, and just decided to come here because Smogon usually updates things and pick right choices of what kind of Tier what certain Pokemon should stay in.

I do plan to became active on the board so I'll see you guys later.

I came because I wanted good battles and stuff, and smogon looked like a great place for competitive battling and getting better.
I stayed cause I was right.
xD

My cousin actually got me into it. I've been into Pokemon since the Generation I games. I really lost intrest when I played the Generation III games. I liked the Generation IV games so I started playing again. Shortly after, I joined The Pallet Tribune forums, which are also about Pokemon. I wanted to get serious about competitive battling so I heard Smogon is the place to go.

There. How I got into Pokemon AND Smogon.

:-)

It was about time I joined the Smogoners. :) This is pretty long and insane, so if you don't want to read, don't read. I'm letting some steam off.

Let's see...it was in 2008-ish...maybe it was September when I was frustrated with a certain Froslass. I was a ghost noob then. I used almost nothing but my starter Pokemon and my favorite ghosts: Mismagius, Froslass, and Banette.

I had some knowledge of the natures (courtesy of Serebii.net), and I tried my best, with the materials I had, to EV train Froslass in Sp.A in the Old Chateau. It turns out I got pretty bored, and I almost left out until I Googled Froslass out of boredom. In that time, of course, Serebii's Pokedex entry for Froslass was the first link, and the second link was the Smogon article for Froslass.

Out of boredom (AGAIN), I clicked on the link. There it was: the usual DP spite for my young lass, and the stat bars. The movesets caught my attention. I grew attracted to the SubPetaya set, which, sadly, doesn't exist anymore. (*SCIZOR. SCCCIIIIIIZZZZOOOOR...!!!! DO YOU THINK YOU'VE WON, SCIZOR!? WELL, DO YOU?!*)

In order to obtain this set faster, I would have to have a timid froslass (which, fortunately, I already had with 31 IVs in Speed) . I followed some directions and eventually got my Subpetaya. It did wonders on PBR, and I went on Smogon again. I searched for Mismagius. An even more appaling set. And, I let loose. My greed got the better of me, and I wanted to chat with expert battlers. So I joined. I don't know when, I don't know how, but I joined.

So, Why did I stay? This will give you some ideas: This post, the one you're looking at right now, is only my second post.
