Snail+Lizard+Scorpion=PROFIT [BW OU RMT]

Yay, Matt is here again. This time with a defensive core. And with some weather-filler. But let's skip useless words and let's see the team

I began to think at this team a lot of time ago, but I never ended it, because VGC 2011 was beginning and it was RNG time for Matt. So I ended to forgot this. But yesterday I cleaned all my old teams and I saw this thing, so I ended it. I've a 3-Pokemon defensive core: Gastrodon walls many Electric Pokemon to the like of Thundurus/Zapdos and can stop a Rotom-W Sweep/
Scout combo cold. With this, this lovely snail is probably the best rain counter ever. Then, we have Heatran: since my lovely snail ( <3 ) fears Ferrothorn and Grass like a mouse fears a cat, having a x4 resistance for it is a good answer. Heatran, along with his ability, can stop many sweeps to the like of Nite (without Quake), Scizor or Volcarona. Being able to come on almost every Ninetales makes him an excellent check for Sun Teams. And last, but not least, Gliscor. This thing can stop almost every Sand Abuser sweep (bar HP Ice Landorus, but anyway) and this, along with his high defense, self-healing in Poison Heal, status immunity, and either Ground and Electric immunity let it be a great physical wall. But I cannot only protect from attacks, isn't it? So here comes my Scizor, BulkyDDZor.This because I hate that blob with my soul and I WANT IT DEAD. ^_^ Ehm. Anyway. I had 4 Pokemon, and all of those were immune to the Sandstorm. So I put in a Tyranitar. This is a set I use very often in my teams, since it both hits hard and surprises the opponent. But you'll see it later. Then, the team was solid, but I was in trouble against stall teams, so a spinner was a good idea. Say hello to my Starmie, guys. Ok, it's time for

A CLOSER LOOK

Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Substitute
- Protect
- Toxic

This set of Gliscor is Stallrein-like. SubProtect is an infinite combo. Toxic on the Bulk Up of a Conkeldurr and it's over. With the Speed EVs outspeeds Toxicroak. This is the first part of my defensive core, where people like Jirachi go to die. Just like most of the sand abusers.

Heatran (M) @

Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Earth Power
- Lava Plume
- Stealth Rock
- Roar

Trolling Air Balloon-popped Tran mode: on. This BEAST can take a Earth Power from every Heatran (bar Specs D: ) with a 60/70% and OHKO back with his own Earth Power. With him I counter BulkyZor, I setup rocks and I block Volcarona sweep. Second part of my defensive core, blocks Grass, Fire and Ice attacks with ease. He's damn cool too.

Gastrodon (M) @

Trait: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
- Recover

Not sure about this set. Landorus 2hko with Earthquake so Ice Beam is obvious. Earth Power helps against Electivire (never seen, but anyway) and Politoed or Starmie, and is crucial against Toxicroak. But Scald, along with the STAB and Burn rate is really, really good, since I've only 4 EVs in Defense. Recover is Recover. Anyway, third part of my defensive core. I can stop Latios since I take around 70% from a Choice Specs Draco Meteor, and along with Leftovers, I can most of the time Recover away the damage taken. Lovely.

Tyranitar (M) @
Bag_Expert_Belt_Sprite.png

Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 20 SAtk / 236 Spd
Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def)
- Flamethrower
- Ice Beam
- Pursuit
- Superpower

He's going to troll you. And he's going to take down your Gliscor/Scizor/Ferrothorn after his first Scarfbluff. This is the plan: a Latios uses Draco Meteor: you take it and you Pursuit it to death. Or you kill a Bliss/Tyra with Superpower. "Oh a Scarf! Perfect, I can setup with my Gliscor/Nite/Zor-I can setup rocks with my Ferrothorn" NO. YOU'LL DIE. Easy to use, lovely to see the effects. 236 Spd so I can outspeed base 100 without EVs.

Scizor (M) @

Trait: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Atk / 216 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bug Bite
- Bullet Punch
- Roost
- Swords Dance

Yay, I kill Reuniculus because I'm a fucking bug. And I kill Terrakion because I've the fucking Bullet Punch. And a lot of other things. Really, I was thinking that having only STABs for coverage was bad, but I was an idiot. After 1/2 SD I can easily destroy a lot of things. Bronzong has no way to even touch me. Ferrothorn dies to Bug Bite (but I hate Leech Seed >_< ). I Roost away damage when needed. I kill even Gliscor after a couple of SD. God, I like it.

Starmie @
Bag_Leftovers_Sprite.png

Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Surf
- Thunderbolt
- Rapid Spin
- Recover

SPIN SPIN SPIN SPIN SPIN! Surf+Bolt are a good coverage, that's enough for a spinner. 252 HP so I can take hits better, but Timid 252 so I don't lose Starmie's speed ties. Recover is a thing I love in spinners. (and a thing they never have D: ) With him I can kill Landorus without a Rock Polish up, or OHKO a Gyarados with TBolt after SR damage outspeeding most of the times even after a DDance. If since RBY this star is OU, there will be a reason.

Trait: Poison Heal

Ok, this is it. Enjoy. ^_^

Hi, as promised, here's the rate.

Overall, solid team. I suggest swapping Tyranitar for a more Specially Defensive variant. This allows you to take attacks from the Latii twins better. Because at the end of the day, Tyranitar is the best counter for them in existence. As well, run Crunch over Superpower. Crunch is an absolute necessity on any Tyranitar set, because Pursuit just does not cut it as a STAB. If Latios opts to stay in, it can beat you down with Surf as you do diddly shit with Pursuit. As well, Fire Blast over Flamethrower to have a higher chance of OHKOing Skarmory and Ferrothorn. Yeah, you miss 15% of the time, but Flamethrower will never OHKO.

- Pursuit
- Ice Beam

On Heatran, I suggest Roar over Dragon Pulse. Yeah, you get to "troll Air Balloon Heatran". But Volcorona is a much much scarier threat than Air Balloon Heatran will ever be. With Roar, you can set up Stealth Rock and Roar it out to end the threat, making Volcorona more manageable. I'd even suggest Toxic over Earth Power since Toxic+Lava Plume allow you to status every Poke in the game except Heatran, and all Earth Power does is "troll opposing Heatran". Gastrodon should run Toxic over Ice Beam. Scald hits Landorus hard enough, and once again, the ability to double status is extremely valuable. Your Scizor EVs also seem very unconventional, since there really isn't any need for speed. I suggest a spread of 252 Hp/ 40 Atk/ 216 SpD Adamant instead. This allows Scizor to survive a 2HKO from Reuniclus' Focus Blast and retaliate with Bug Buzz.

Conkeldurr beats your version of Gliscor 1v1, and wrecks your team pretty badly in general. SD Lucario is another pokemon who could prove problematic. As it has no trouble OHKOing anyone except Starmie who still gets owned by Extremespeed. I suggest swapping to a Subtect Toxic stall Gliscor. With Substitute and Protect, Gliscor can start up an infinite stall chain because with Poison Heal, Hp lost from Substitute is healed back in 2 turns. This can be really abused considering how good Gliscor, Heatran, and Gastrodon are at distributing status. Earthquake hits pretty much everything that Toxic doesn't hit, with a few exceptions like Gengar, Skarmory, and Bronzong. But you already have other pokemon on your team to deal with all those, so it shouldn't be an issue. The best part is how badly this set destroys Conkeldurr. I suggest going with an EV spread of 252 Hp/ 40 Def/ 216 Spe Jolly to outspeed SD Lucario with Ice Punch and Mynism's Toxicroak, effectively ending those two threats.

Hey there.

Physical attackers can really become a threat to this team seeing as how Gliscor cannot cover all of them. SD Lucario, SD Toxicroak, and Sub + 3 Attack Landorus are some of these notable pokemon.

I feel like Tyranitar is not really vital to to your team. A lure set is nice, but since Choice Scarf Tyranitar really isn't common, it makes it much harder to use it effectively. Its coverage moves in Flamethrower and Ice Beam are both very predictable on Tyranitar in 5th gen regardless. Your team also does not need sand to function well. By replacing Tyranitar with a Skarmory, you can take on most of the threats your weak too, and be able to put more pressure on the opponent with entry hazards. Skarmory also forms a superb core with Gastrodon and Heatran.

Defensive Skarmory

Skarmory (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 Speed
Impish Nature
- Spikes
- Roost
- Brave Bird
- Whirlwind

I also suggest that you replace Earth Power on Heatran with Protect and Dragon Pulse with Roar. Earth Power really isn't too useful on specially defensive Heatran; the same goes for Dragon Pulse. Protect allows Heatran to net another turn of Leftovers recovery, and also helps it scout against threats such as Choice Scarf Landorus and Choice Banded Terrakion. Roar will provide you with a second phazer (provided you change Tyranitar to Skarmory) that can rack up entry hazards damage against the opponent. It is also really useful for phazing out threats such as Substitute + Calm Mind Latias. I also suggest that you move 8 EVs out of Special Defense and put them into Speed. This will let you outspeed enemy specially defensive Heatran, thus allowing you to phaze them before they can do the same to you.

Finally, change Starmie's EV Spread to 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Speed. The special attack is very necessary on Starmie, allowing it to do respectable damage to Jellicent and have a goo chance of forcing it out; Starmie can still heal off rather easily with it's amazing speed stat combined with Recover. It also lets you deal much more damage to threats such as Terrakion and Heatran.

Nice team. Hope I helped, and good luck!

Why fix something which ain't broken?

Obviously you're trying to put your own spin on an anti-weather core, and it ain't working. Walling Ladorus is crucial for your team who is decimated by him. As MoO said just use a standard Skarmory. Walls Sand (which Gliscor doesn't do because he can't handle Landorus, one of Sand's key sweepers) and gives you some much appreciated Spikes and phazing.

This team is so similar to my team Draconic Rebirth: 4 of the same pokemon, 5th is a water type like mine, and 6th is a rock type like mine...but whatever. And I was thinking of using starmie, but whatever.

This is a good team, no doubt. Just minor nitpicks here:

There is no point of running spdef heatran if you are going to not use it for utility. Either run toxic or roar or something over earth power or dragon pulse on it or try a slow max attack variant with 252 hp, 252 spatk, 4 spd with modest.

Also, dd gyarados seems to threaten your team. Yeah, so, that skarmory would really benefit your team. Listen to what shakeitup said.

@Shake it up:Ok I'll try to swap tyra for skarmory.
@New World Order: But I'll try a bulky tar too. Anyway Roar on DPulse is a good idea. I'll fix it.
