[Overview]

Snorlax is, in a word, fat. It has fat stats, a fat movepool, and it should really go on a diet. It is bar none the most effective special tank in UU, able to take special hits with its walls of lard with ease. In addition, its high attack stat means he can really rip a new one into a whole lot of pokemon. However, it's not all lolipops and deep fried twinkies for our favorite fatso. In a tier plagued by deadly fighting types and strong physical attackers, it can be hard for the slow fatty to find a chance to get in and do his work. In addition, the sleep mechanics of generation 5 have crippled Snorlax's main form of recovery, forcing the sleeping giant to stay in for two turns to wake up. Do not underestimate it, however, as this bucket of fat will wreck your team if it gets a chance.

"I fear that all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve." - A UU player after attacking a Snorlax.

 • Has high SpDef and HP stats and only one weakness, with useful resistances via thick fat.
 • Solid attack stat that is easily boosted.
 • Horrible speed stat of 30 means it will not outspeed anything bar shuckle.
 • Terrible defense stat and horrible weakness to fighting in a tier that is partially defined by its overflow of strong fighting types.
[SET]
name: Restalk
move 1: Body Slam / Return
move 2: Rest
move 3: Sleep Talk
move 4: Whirlwind
item: Leftovers
ability: Thick Fat
nature: Careful
evs: 208 HP / 124 Def / 176 SpD
 • UU's preimer special tank
 • Very hard to take down with special pokemon
 • Hard to take down with quite a few physical attackers
 • Very weak to ghost types, especially physical ghosts
 • Good at phazing
 • Amazing at parashuffling - that is, paralyzing a pokemon and then shifting it out
 • Sleep turns easily abused by opponent, must stay in 2 turns to wake up, sleep talk remedies this somewhat.
name: BandLax
move 1: Return / Body Slam
move2: Earthquake
move3: Pursuit / Seed Bomb
move4: Fire Punch / Crunch
item: Choice Band
ability: Thick Fat
nature: Adamant / Careful
EVs: 80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 SpD
 • Hurts like a truck
 • Return is prefered over body slam for more immediate damage.
 • Requires proper prediction to not be walled
 • Good at cleanup sweeping if certain conditions are met

yeah this is a work in progress. ignore the atypical formatting, I find it lets me gather my thoughts more easily.

Why only CurseLax? Snorlax has more available to it than just Curse. You seem to be forgetting RestTalk (that massive 110 base SpD) and CB (that massive 110 base Attack). Besides, CurseLax is nowhere near the best Snorlax set.

EDIT: Also, nothing should be slashed with Rest, with the exception of possibly Selfdestruct. Rest is too valuable to give up on Curselax. Selfdestruct is slashed on the current analysis, but I've always been doubtful of it not just because of the Selfdestruct nerf, but also because it's a waste of a perfectly good Curselax.

Still a WIP, feel free to suggest sets you fin to be extraordinary. I certainly have not forgotten the choice band or restalk sets, I just have yet to add them.

Also I'm just going to give selfdestruct a passing mention, it's totally not worth it.

Before you go any further, I should inform you that the initial phase of an analysis writing is putting up a skeleton for Quality Control to look over. Once the skeleton has been approved, you may write it up.

Please follow proper procedure from now on. It makes everyone's life a lot easier.

Haven't finished the skeleton yet, which is why QC is not yet up and why the thread is marked WIP, as is your Togekiss thread. I simply have it written like a analysis so I can gather my thoughts before I finish the skeleton.

I have been wracking my brain for the past several days, and while I don't want to do this, I am removing curselax from the list of viable sets, as it has no place in this new fighting heavy meta.

CurseLax is is no way unviable atm. It's less good, yes, but there's no way it has become non-analysis worthy. In fact, I'm pretty sure a well EV'd Snorlax can tank a LO HJK from Mienshao at +1--not that it needs to in order to be good (Mienshao can't switch in safely), but I think it can.

The set order should be different as well. Offensive should be first, it's easily the best Snorlax in the current metagame.

Offensive curselax is absolutely amazing in this metagame, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Snorlax @ Leftovers
16 HP / 216 Atk / 96 Def / 180 SpD or 16 / 216 Atk / 200 Def / 76 SpD
Thick Fat / Immunity
Adamant
-Curse
-Return
-Earthquake
-Ice Punch / Fire Punch

The thing is, Snorlax has some of the most customizable EV spreads in all of Pokemon, so it's difficult to decide on just one for the analysis. Which one you pick is going to depend on what you want Snorlax to do on your team.

The first EV spread turns Snorlax into a specially-bulky pivot that can also sweep late-game if you need it to. The EVs let it take two Close Combats from Hitmontop at +1 while also having the capability to check a large number of special attackers.

The second EV spread is much more physically oriented. It can survive Mienshao's LO Hi Jump Kick at full health and all that good stuff, and checks Darmantian / Victini a lot better. But it needs to be noted that its special tankiness leaves a lot to be desired - it faces a 2hko from specs zapdos, for example.

Immunity v. Thick Fat is down to whether you want to be able to set up on bronzong / gligar / swampert / other random things with toxic or whether you want to check darm / vic / chandy. Without ice punch, I would strongly recommend Immunity. With it, Thick Fat is probably a better option, since you are already beating gligar and won't be beating bronzong anyway.

I would like to request that my reservation on Snorlax be removed and that this thread be deleted. I have come to the conclusion that I do not know enough about the UU metagame to safely give him a new analysis.
