Player sign-ups will commence in this dedicated thread: https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/solomods-premier-league-player-sign-ups.3740228/

When a prospective player signs up, they are expected to also note which tiers they are interested in playing during the tournament. In order to ensure the best possible experience for yourself, the managers, and your team, please do NOT sign up for any tier you are unwilling to play. If you would not seriously consider playing that tier in a tournament environment, do not list it. The tiers you put down in your signup are not binding for the entire tournament, but they will affect how your prospective manager sees you, and as such they should be as accurate to your skillset as possible. Don't make joke posts about playing tiers you do not care for.

Please familiarise yourself with the Tournaments Rules and General Guidelines.

General SoloPL Rules & Regulations (borrowed and modified from SPL's guidelines)

The General Manager of a team is essentially the boss of a team. The GM is the final word in all decisions (barring the hosts) regarding their team. The GM decides which players play on the team, who plays in what position, and even handles the team finances. Managers also make sure that the team keeps running on a day to day basis. If a team fails to complete their matches by the end of the allotted time, the onus is on the manager to inform the hosts as to what happened in order to make sure that proper activity calls are made.

Because of these responsibilities, The General Manager is probably the most important part of the team. As such, the position of GM is not one to be taken lightly.

General Managers are chosen largely on a subjective opinion of the Tournament Hosts as to who they believe would be fit for the position. Being fit for the position includes the knowledge of excellent battlers in the community (for fielding a competent team), having above average activity on the forums, Pokémon Showdown and/or Discord (in order to ensure that you don’t abandon your team), as well as possessing a necessary amount of “gravitas” (If you can’t make a player do what you tell them to, such as play an undesirable metagame, you’re not going to make a good manager).

General Managers are required to acquire one Assistant Manager. The Tournament Director team can veto the selection of an assistant manager, but will not require the General Manager to choose any particular user as their Assistant Manager. The assistant manager is essentially the second in command for the team. They have almost all of the functions and roles as the General Manager does, the GM just trumps him in head-to-head decisions.

Lastly, the General Manager has the following duties:

• They shall choose one Assistant Manager.
• They shall make the hosts aware of any player retentions by the time player signups close (48 hours prior to the start of the auction).
• They shall be present at the live auction, or appoint someone (preferably the Assistant Manager or a retained player if the AM is unavailable) to participate in the live auction in their stead.
• They shall send the hosts weekly rosters.
• They shall ensure to the best of his/her abilities that his/her battlers complete their matches on time.
• In the event that a match fails to be completed, they shall inform the hosts as to why the match failed to be completed, and what his/her battler did in order to finish the match.
• They shall communicate any grievances with the hosts.
All players must sign up if they wish to play in the SoloPL (Solomosss Premier League). It is mportant to note that the SoloPL will last for at least 8 weeks, and that the activity level of a player is significant. Do not sign up to play for a team if you do not intend to see the tournament through to the end. This includes maintaining a competitive attitude if your team is already eliminated from playoff contention. You never know whether or not winning your end-season matches will make you a more valued player next season, so even if your team isn’t necessarily in the playoff picture anymore, there’s always value in playing your best. Failure to complete matches in a timely manner consistently may result in being barred from entering the SoloPL in future seasons.
Total money for teams is TBD based on player signups

In the weeks preceding the live auction, a time will be chosen by all of the General Managers to meet and perform a live auction in order to choose players. Managers will be expected to remain at the auction for the entire duration, which should take approximately 2-3 hours. This will be scheduled at times to best accommodate all managers.

Once a time is set, all managers + the hosts will enter the place where the auction will be held - likely the Dragonheaven server. Spectators are allowed to join in to watch the fun unfold, but will not be able to speak. Discussion on the bidding at hand should be relegated to the Lobby chatroom or any other appropriate chat outlet.

The hosts will first ask a team to nominate a player. The order by which teams will nominate players will go in a snaking pattern from the highest ranked team from last year to the lowest ranked team (random for new teams / managers) then the lowest ranked team to the highest ranked team. The hosts will then tell the details of said player and bidding will commence, starting at 3000 credits, with the nominating team automatically placing the first bid. The auction will then be in real time. Managers will simply put in their bids in the chat, raising a minimum of 500 credits. If after 15 seconds there are no new bids, the player is sold to the highest bid in the channel. The hosts or utilized bot will provide a 5 second warning before bidding is closed on a player. The updated credit totals will then be posted and then the next manager in the rotation will be prompted to nominate a player.

Managers are advised that placed bids are final, and we will generally not permit an undo in the case of a mistake. Exceptions can be made in cases where a team nominates an incorrect player or if a typo in a bid amount would threaten the integrity of the team as a whole. Please make sure to double check your bids before sending them!

Managers are asked to please have a predetermined list of players you intend to nominate as well as potential bid caps, in order to make the process go as quickly and seamlessly as possible.

Managers: it is necessary for you to field a roster to have starters for all slots and a minimum of 3 substitutes, with a maximum of 10 substitutes being allowed of which all must be paid at least 3000 credits. This creates a soft cap of 90,000 credits on any particular bid - that is, the maximum amount of money you can spend on any one player and still have enough money left over to pay at least 3000 credits a piece on 10 more players. This is based on the assumption that the credit cap per team is decided to be 120,000 credits once sign-ups have closed.

Remember that there are midseason free agent pick-ups. It may be beneficial to save some credits in order to pick up players midseason, but remember that no new players will be allowed to sign up for the midseason draft.
It is at this time that the tournament will commence. The league stages consist of a Round Robin tournament. Every team will face every other team once through 5 weeks of play. Each manager will submit to the hosts a roster no later than the deadline of the previous week. This roster will list the starting players and what metagames they will play.

When the week starts, teams' players will face off in their respective metagames / tiers. The MG1 OU from Team A will face the MG1 OU from team B, DNU team A will face DNU team B, and so on. Whichever team wins the most battles will be declared the victor for the week. Rather than score based on how many individual battles a team wins, the primary thing that matters is who beat the most teams. As such, points are awarded based only on wins and losses versus teams as a whole, not individual players. Beating a team in a week’s matchups is worth two points, tying with a team is worth one point, and losing is worth none, simple as that. At the end of the round robin, the top four teams in the points proceed to the playoffs and will be seeded into a knock-out style bracket where they will face off until only one team remains.

There are a few regulatory things during the league stages that need to be outlined.

1. Substitutes – At any point in time during the week, a team may make a substitution for a currently slotted player. In order to do this a manager must post in the thread, tagging the hosts, the opposing managers and the opposing player stating which player is substituting out, and which player is substituting in. A player that has substituted out for a week cannot be substituted back in. In addition, in order to catch any attempts at garnering favorable matchups, all substitutions are subject to veto by the hosts if the substitution is suspected to be attempting to “game” the system.

2. There will be no trades allowed at any point during SoloPL.

3. Activity decisions – There are inevitably times where two players simply fail to complete a match; however, the nature of the tournament system sometimes makes it advantageous to purposely fail to play (such as when a team is up 6-5 in a week). Because of this, it is necessary to make activity decisions on matches. Hosts are required to make thorough investigations regarding each and every potential failed match during a week. If both parties are deemed to be equally apathetic or enthusiastic about getting the match done, but just have not had the opportunity to make it happen, the match will result in a no contest. However, if it is deemed that one party made significantly more effort than the other in attempting to get the match done, then a win will be awarded to that player. Things that will make it very likely that you will lose via activity include: failing to VM your opponent immediately upon the week’s start, scheduling a match and being documented as missing the match time, failing to provide any concrete times for which you can be reached, failing to respond to an opponent’s VM at all. Please be certain to review the guidelines for a favorable judgement in an activity decision. Note that this is a tournament that requires a very high level of activity and diligence, if you don’t think you can get your matches done, quite simply don’t sign up.

4. Rule Breaking – There is no excuse for breaking any of the predetermined rules. If you are caught breaking a rule, you will lose your match. There is no lenience with regards to this. Break a rule, you lose. Period.

5. Reversing Rulings - No ruling will be retroactively overturned once the week following the week that the ruling has been made has ended. This includes: activity rulings / rulings based on rule breaking / anything else under the sun. I'm not going back in time to reevaluate every single decision I've made throughout the tournament on Week 9 because you think you were gypped 1-2 wins along the way and now they're the difference between you and a playoff spot. Any appeals to a ruling must be made during the week that the ruling is made; beyond that, all rulings are final once the week ends.
At the end of the league stages, there will be a knockout style playoffs involving the top 4 teams in the points. In the event of a tie in overall points standings, the following criteria is used for breaking ties.

• Overall Points >
• Battle Difference (total # battles won - total # battles lost) >
• Best of 3 - each team picks a unique tier with the winner of the Head to Head matchup picking second, then a tier voted on by the hosts is the 3rd game. In the event that the two teams tied in the Head to Head matchup, the team with better results against the higher seeds will pick second.

After the top 4 have been determined, each team will be seeded. The #1 seed will play the #4 seed, and the #2 seed will play the #3 seed. The victors of these matches will advance to the finals match. The winning team of this match will be declared the ultimate victors of the Pet Mods Premier League

League Stages & Playoffs

League Stages

Not all of the teams will qualify to play in the playoffs. Based on the results of the League stage, the top 4 teams will advance to the playoffs.

In the league stages, beating another team gives you 2 points, drawing the match gives you 1 point, and losing it gives you nothing. In addition, the manner in which you win will also be stored; that is, how many you won vs how many you lost. This difference will be used in case of a tie at the end of the league stage.

Playoffs

Based on the league stage, the top 4 teams will be seeded and placed into a bracket, in which they will go head to head. Teams will battle in the same format as during the league stage. At the end of all 8 battles, the team with more wins will advance to finals.

During the playoffs, to add to the epicness, and give some of the subs an extra opportunity to play, the higher seed in both matchups will get to pick a slot to double up on.

In the case of a tie in playoffs, the advancing team will be decided by a best of three - each team picks a unique tier with the higher seed picking second, then a tier voted on by the hosts is the 3rd game.

The tournament will progress in this format until there is only one team left standing, the champions of the Solomods Premier League I.

Team rankings time

0 - Driftveil Drakloaks :drakloak:
Leaving my team out of the list for obvious reasons but I can easily see ourselves winning this. Excellent team synergy with people who know each, best mg2 slots of the tournament, manager is DNU tier leader and we got a doubles player and a Createmons player which are pretty much the only slots in the tournament people should have prioritised. It also gets bonus points for subjecting Orangesodapop to the sisyphean curse of being the main MG1 slot.

1 - Gensokyo Gourgeists :Gourgeist:
GOURG SWEEP! GOURG NUMERO UNO CAMPEAO DE MUNDO! Anyways there is no denying that gourgs are by far the most stacked team in the tournament. SexgSexg and Anacooma are not only good players but also the only managers I can trust with not disappearing for the entire tournament, they are also the only managers who could draft for shit so they also get that to their favor. However they have glaring fatal flaws. The first is that they spent 16k on world class cancer slot Hidin, the second is that the gourgs were the most mickey mouse goofy ass team in existence and I don't doubt that if they dominate classifiers they are gonna choke and get 6-2 in semifinals like they always do. It all comes down to if the Gensokyo half can come through and stop the gourgeists from shooting themselves in the foot.

2 - Siuuing Suiiicunes :Suicune:
Originally I was gonna put this team lower but I just realised they are way more consistent that the other teams. Anyways team is super solid, has very good players from each of the tiers, and it covers the tiers with less signups pretty well which is the main winning factor of the tournament. Cao Jie is a huge steal and while we should definitely clown them for 18k on Beaf Cultist he at least is one of the best Scootopia slots. Nice team synergy as well.

3 - Washed Wishiwashis :Wishiwashi:
Very unserious team. Their entire drafting strategy is using their 49k slot (COPEN ROFL) to pass teams to like half of their entire team, while they do whatever in Createmons since its the tier they have the biggest monopoly on. I can see a fairy, Concept and Vizar doing really good when given teams but can't say the same for the rest of the team, by far the team that will have to be carried the hardest by its builders and if the petmods pl have taught me anything is that such a strategy ends up in ruin real quick. Solid team, but somewhat one dimensional.

4 - Slugma Slugmas :Slugma:
Balls team. Has a couple of decent players but no good builders of note other than maybe TTTech and just ok team synergy, legit don't see the vision here when making this team so I assume I might get proven wrong, but I don't have much to say other than I don't see this team making it to finals.

5 - Zubat Swarm:zubat:
Non-existent team synergy. Managers who joined less than a year ago and almost zero chance they stay active for more than one week at most, strongest player is R8 who has no support, not seeing the vision here, hope they can pull off a Pmpl 1 Gourg run but its not looking very gucci for this team.

Alright I wasted all my toxicity, I wish all teams to have a good time and to make the first solomods pl a good experience!

Thanks to our lovely managers, we now have a set of emotes ready. Synergy is thus guaranteed, and we now are ready to win the tournament. As an example, here you can find a screenshot of me using one of these emojis to describe the state of shock i had when i realised how stacked our team is:
Screenshot 2024-04-22 at 04.14.41.png

strongest player is R8 who has no support
- Strong players by definition don't need support - but they can be the support! (I extensively played 4 of the tiers featured in this tournament)
- Anyone who made their homework will know that i might not even be the best player on the pool... but maybe that's how our managers almost got them for free
not seeing the vision here
Here is the vision, and it couldn't be more clear:

Despite the unfortunate circumstances towards the end, I'm glad we gave it our all. At the start of the tournament, people didn't expect us at all to be making playoffs let alone finals, and we proved them all wrong. I appreciate the team massively for what we had to accomplish and I'm glad we built each other up to push through the likes of the Suicunes at Week 5 despite the incredibly strong pressure that was given and to everyone else for triumphing the Wishiwashis when I weren't able to completely get it over the line.

With everything being said, let me get onto the dedications and mentions.

Starting off with Teamo and Quinn. I appreciate you guys for giving faith to me throughout this tour. The mindgames during the draft process with the WWs and the absolute unseriousness we all had at the very start made for an incredible experience throughout. I'm glad these opportunities have given me new found love in tiers like Kanto Expansion Pak and Scootopia as we were heading towards the climax in this tour, and your recurring attitude towards the tour has allowed the team to perform well above our expectations. Appreciate you two, and I'm here for LC shenanigans too :kek:

OM I have mad respect for you to turn up in a win or lose situation and give it your all. Whilst the struggles with luck shown a lil bit, you played incredibly well throughout the entire tour and you kept your determination no matter the circumstances. Keep your head high, you've been amazing.

SwordIsBored Despite the last game maybe not going the best you would have hoped for, I appreciate you representing yourself as TL wonderfully and I'm glad we were able to have a spot held incredibly well together in the chaos of the other MGs and FE VGC.

ManuelOliveira and TG2513 Respectable performances from the both of you and I appreciate the both of you getting me into KEP. I have full faith in the both of yous to continue to perform further in RBY metagames and so long as you're able to schedule at a timely manner (*cough TG in Week 5*) then I'd be happy to play more KEP with you later down the line as it is a really fun metagame.

TTTech my guy. Whilst the Baton Pass unadulterated trash was quite possibly the silliest thing I witnessed during them finals, I appreciate your presence and overall attitude you gave towards the weeks you played. I'm glad we were able to talk especially during the WK4 DNU prep coz I needed that massively yfm. Whilst I still don't have a full understanding of BC, I'm interested to see how it develops further, and I'm glad this tour has showcased me that tbh.

Dex yo it's crazy what happens when you're focusing on the game itself :skull:. Real talk, I'm glad you were able to regain your confidence back especially towards Weeks 4 -> Finals. Whilst it might've been difficult for you to build, you were amazing in terms of playing and those incredibly clutch wins have been crucial towards our success. Stay GOATed and gl in MPL X.

Other Shoutouts I'll give because there's a lot more to talk about
CoruptedUsername, HolaSoyBalto and Plasmaan shoutouts the three of you for the effectively triple digit number of games of testing that was done (bit of an exaggeration but you get the point). I appreciate the three of you for putting up with my shenanigans and you gave me some really strong ideas throughtout the weeks which had been key to our success. Unfortunate they didn't free you HSB during Finals (they didn't want me playing Scootopia :blobpensive: ) but you are an incredible player nonetheless and I hope to see you around more in the DNU server!

JeoZ you were rent free in my head the entire tour and I rate it. I also appreciate you helping out towards the finals when I didn't feel the greatest heading into the set with Jump, where your values in helping with testing and tweaking were pivotal. I'm glad we both performed incredibly well throughout this team tour for DNU. If you'd like to be interested in playing more DNU later down the line, then I'd be interested. Nonetheless, I'm glad you were about during this time and keep that energy throughout my man.

Cyclonez_ 2-5 or not, I appreciate the dedication you've made towards DNU and the continuous development of the tier and I'll be looking to bring a bunch of resources later down the line. I'm glad this teamtour has allowed all of us to continue with the recent momentum of the moneytour and whilst the showdown tier support won't be around forever, I'm glad this opportunity has given us the very most of what this tier has to offer. Also Lialiabeast greatest DNU player :kek:

There's other mentions I'd like to give along the way like Veti, DSM (appreciate the Pidove set in WK5), Silver Trog (Nincada Supremacy), ZeStinky (simply GOATed) and Copen (ty for putting up with the bs), but I've already talked long enough and I might've given too many tags already. With that being said, I'm looking to arrange a megapost for DNU in the upcoming days and another one for Scootopia later down the line. With that being said, cheers to the Solomods tour, and I'm looking forward to PMPL! :slugma:

After seeing all the team's hard work, I really feel bad about the result and how things turned out.
Thank you Quinn and teamo for allowing me to join the team.
Zpice bro what can I say, you are the goat, your scouts and building are really something to be reckoned with. hope to see you again in another tour.
Sorry can't say much more about the rest but I saw that you guys put a lot of desire into it in general. I would have liked to get to know them a little more and be more active, but it really has been a tough year on a personal level.

Good luck next year, Slugmas.

the start of a wonderful partnership

I signed up to manage this tour basically on a whim, and Nog only reached out of pity I think, so if you told me we'd go on to win a couple months later I may not have believed you. I figured I was in over my head, and while I may have been, I'm still so, so proud of all of the Drakloaks for pulling through. While I'm disappointed in my performance as a player, I couldn't be a happier manager. This was such a fun experience and I am so excited to continue to participate in this community.

First, thanks to Copen for hosting. Despite all the shit you got, this was a very fun experience and I got to meet some really cool people because you put this on for the community. It's a thankless job, but I'm trying my best here. Thanks for all the effort you put into this.

Next up, while they weren't on the team itself, I'd like to thank R8 for being emotional support for a lot of my mons career. I'm super competitive and it's so easy for me to feel burnt out or over mons entirely and I was very close to cancering halfway through the tour but I kept going with your help. Similarly, Alon Guy Person, thank you for the support both with the mental game and for the teambuilding help. I couldn't ask for a better friend whose name starts with NEO and ends with NEO.

Next, the Drakloaks themselves.
Orangesodapop, you're a fucking trooper. Sticking with MG1 all the way through despite your misgivings with the tier and putting up a good record on top of it was awesome to see. Thanks for giving advice and ideas in multiple tiers and pushing through to the end. That's my GOAT.

qsns, you're the GOAT fr. I feel like I understand MG2 at a top level just from watching you play, hell, talk about it. Being the #2 best MG2 player behind Lialiabeast is hella impressive. You were just such a great spirit to the team and I'm glad you were our MG2 rep instead of stinky nog

Runo, thank you for pushing through MG3 despite your complaints with the tier. It takes balls to bring Shedinja stall to half your games and pull it off. The Spite Block Pyukumuku was insane. Seriously though, phenomenal performance--you did great and I'm so glad we had you around.

LuciShrimp, while the tour itself didn't go as well as you hoped, you remained a positive attitude throughout. Your building throughout was a massive support for the tier and helping the KEP slot. Thank you so much!

Fluore, you came in with basically no KEP experience afaik, and came out with multiple wins. I appreciate the work and you played great. Thanks for having a great attitude, it was awesome having you around.

GhastlyPixie, you got the MASSIVE win over TTTech in the finals--hell yeah! It was awesome seeing your growth as a player throughout and it culminated in a win that ended up being very important. Thank you for being the team's biggest cheerleader and force for good!

LovelyLuna, you did amazing at picking up a new tier and putting in your all. FEVGC personally seems so intimidating to learn but you made it look effortless. You should feel incredibly proud of your performance this tour.

Evie, you did great as a doubles partner and overall being some great moral support for the team overall and especially Luna. Thank you for your upbeat attitude. It was great to have you on the team!

Gekokeso, you were the sneaky MVP of the whole tour. So much practice in pretty much all the tiers, helping build for at least half of them, all while being one of the best Scootopia players! drafting you would have been an underpay no matter what. Absolute legend.

Finally, my great co-manager Noglastica for helping this dream happen in the first place. He kept team morale high during some dark weeks and teambuilding advice in multiple tiers helped us push through--especially helping qsns solve MG2. Free Dragapult tho bro did nothing wrong

This was a fantastic experience and the whole team was amazing to have around. I'm going to miss you guys, but it's amazing what we did. Each and every one of you will forever be a Driftveil Drakloak, no matter where our paths take us, even if we return to unserious tiers btw.

For the final time, at least for now:

GO DRAKLOAKS!

Not really from the long writing (did the yapping 7 weeks already). I just wanted to thank the team for the effort everyone put in. Never saw such good subs in the many tournaments I played on this site. HolaSoyBalto sorry pokebro you should have started. Zpice was doing so good that it was hard to justify to bench him you probably were the second best dnu player in the pool just happend that we got the top 2 dnu players :/.

Also AquaticPanic Great mod never played VGC or a solo/petmod before but i really enjoyed this one a lot. Thanks NecasInTrouble for the test games and all opponents for the fun games.

Btw let teamo and me run it back in petmods premier league

the start of a wonderful partnership

I signed up to manage this tour basically on a whim, and Nog only reached out of pity I think, so if you told me we'd go on to win a couple months later I may not have believed you. I figured I was in over my head, and while I may have been, I'm still so, so proud of all of the Drakloaks for pulling through. While I'm disappointed in my performance as a player, I couldn't be a happier manager. This was such a fun experience and I am so excited to continue to participate in this community.

Huge thanks to you Jump for helping me test in the horribly stall based tier (BC) you definitely helped me out in the last couple weeks.
