First one to find x gets 1 reaction score

If you dont use matrix row reduction i will send a dildo to your house

you tell us to find x yet your system is in terms of a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h

btw every time I hear the word matrix I think of someone from the deep south saying "mah trix"

if you really want to solve this convert the matrix into this form on paper, type the matrix up so that it matches wolfram alpha matrix format, and type "row reduce the matrix" into wolfram alpha. also you're not allowed to use the variable e because wolfram alpha will interpret that as shorthand for *10^.
also, don't use this forum for homework help. only reason I didn't lock this before I typed this post was because the solution is automatable and I was feeling pedagogical. only reason I'm not locking it now is because maybe people will post some funny stuff

Interesting. I would have parsed 24/23^2 as 24/(23*23) rather than (24/23)^2 since that's what the order of operations would be if you just shoved it into a computer without doing anything else.

Running that system through matlab gave me

a
2.264206
b
-1.26421
c
-1.8237
d
0.17345
e
0.972068
f
-2.00095
g
0.001239
h
0.598767
Which is sort of, but not really, close to your solution.

Does anyone remember that name for that one matrix transformation that's like M = U * SIGMA * V* or whatever? I'm struggling to remember it from my numerical linear algebra class... it was like a 3 letter thing or something

Singular Value Decomposition (SVD), and you can use it to do basic trend analysis in a set of data (which is Principal Component Analysis (PCA), another 3 letter acronym key to Linear Algebra).
