Like cheese. Certain alcoholic beverages. And my infamous(?) Pokemon skills. After completely forgetting about Pokemon for the better of two years, I was suckered back in by the B/W metagame. Without further ado, here is what I've been working with.
These are they. They, being my ragtag group of 'mons. Bros, all of them.
Jirachi @ Choice Scarf Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 112 HP / 248 Atk / 148 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Iron Head
- Fire Punch
- Stealth Rock
- Trick
First up is Scarf Jirachi. This guy's job is to prevent the other leads from setting up Stealth Rock, revenge killing stuff with flinch abuse, and setting up Stealth Rocks of my own. Most suicide leads besides Deoxys are 2HKOed and hopefully flinched so they die before they get to do anything. Bulkier leads I just trick my Scarf onto them right away so they are worthless for the rest of the match.
Jirachi is rather hit and miss for me, I would love to have a better lead. If anyone on this team could go, I wouldn't miss him too much. I've tried Porygon2 up here for some Magic Coat shenanigans, which works pretty well, but I feel I rely on Porygon2 a great deal already and would prefer something else.
Hits 450 speed (300 sans scarf), nearly maximum attack, and 369 HP. I always have odd HP numbers on my dudes to minimize entry hazard damage.
Reuniclus (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 SAtk
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Calm Mind
- Recover
Jello Fetus, Ridiculous, Gummy Bear, whatever you want to call him, he's cute and badass. Definately my favorite 5th generation Pokemon thus far. You all know what he does. Come in on Leech Seeds, Toxic, Fighting Pokemon, etc, and starts wrecking things. Life Orb Focus Blast always wrecks Tyranitar switch-ins, Hydregion switch-ins, and other probable Reuniclus counters as well. It's usually the move I throw out first when I come into play, which typically nets me a surprise kill. With their main Reuniclus counter out of the picture, I can usually sweep late game.
He Calm Minds on most walls and wreaks havoc, he's also my main Conkeldurr switch-in because not much else can touch it after a Bulk Up or two.
EVs are fairly standard. A bonus point in Special Attack, maximum Defense, rest in HP.
Porygon2 @ Eviolite
Trait: Trace
EVs: 232 HP / 208 Def / 68 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Discharge
- Recover
- Toxic / Magic Coat?
Porygon2, my favorite Pokemon last generation, got a hell of a lot better thanks to Eviolite. With my EVs he hits over 400 of both defenses, and has 369 HP. That is insanely durable. He's my counter for dragons, Gyarados, most special attackers, basically this little duck can switch into anything except STAB Close Combats.
He is the glue that holds my team together, he just deals with too many threats. My fear is that I rely on him far too heavily. I have noticed a trend, most games I lose is because something unfortunate happens to Porygon2, such as a Trick, crit or surprise Toxic, and then my main answer to a huge chunk of the metagame is wrecked.
EVs, as previously mentioned, give me 369 HP, to minimize Sandstorm damage and Stealth Rock damage, while giving 400+ of both defenses.
Azumarill (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Huge Power
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 Def
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Aqua Jet
- Waterfall
- Superpower
- Return
Look at this cute little dude. Who would suspect that he has 648 attack?
Typical Choice Band Azumarril. He revenge kills plenty of stuff, including Volcanora, Blaziken, Excadrill, and more. Waterfall hits like a truck and helps me tear down walls. He is the first member of my offensive Water duo. Similar to double Dragon in ubers, where Salamence is used to wear down Rayquaza's counters so Rayquaza can sweep, I have two Water Choice Banders. There is plenty of Pokemon weak to or neutral to Water attacks in OU. Many teams only have one or two Pokemon to switch into these attacks, mainly Ferrothorn. When he goes down, they have nothing to take Azumarril's beatings.
Superpower takes down Empoleon and Ferrothorn, Return is there because I have no clue what else to use.
EVs net 401 HP to minimize residual damage, maximum Attack, rest in Defense.
Crawdaunt (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Adaptability
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Crunch
- Waterfall / Crabhammer?
- Superpower
- Aerial Ace
The second Water Choice Bander is Crawdaunt. Holy balls, this guy hits hard. 558 attack and two 160 base power moves to abuse it. Now the idea here is to scout out their counters with Azumarril, then beat them to a pulp with Crawdaunt. Late game I can clean up the scraps with Azumarril's Aqua Jet.
Ferrothorn I try to remove with Reuniclus or Salamence first, but if it comes down to it, I use Superpower from Azumarril or Crawdaunt to take him out. If they do not have a Ferrothorn, Crunch it is. Crunch 2HKOs absolutely everything that doesn't resist it. Anything faster than Crawdaunt is likely OHKOed. If they have Skarmory or some other Dark resist, Waterfall breaks them. Waterfall 2HKOs Skarmory and OHKOs Hippowdon, Gliscor, Scizor, and more. He also OHKOs Reuniclus, a feat few Pokemon can boast.
The combination of Azumarril and Crawdaunt gives me the raw power to break most teams, but obviously Sun teams give me MAJOR issues. I pull my hair out when I run into a Sun team. I have considered turning this into a Rain team, but that would probably require an entire rebuild.
Salamence (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 216 HP / 208 Def / 76 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Roost
- Dragon Claw
- Flamethrower
- Earthquake
Bulkymence. Salamence has a fantastic array of resistances, including Water, Fire, Grass, Bug, Fighting, and Ground. Without any investment in Attack he still has a respectable 306, which is enough to dish out damage while still taking hits. Not much else to say about him. He takes on a lot of really pesky Pokemon and Roosts to live another day. My opponents always assume I have a sweeper Salamence and underestimate his survivability, which often nets surprise kills on overconfident sweepers.
If I were to change anything, I would go Timid nature. I am not sure if this would be better though, since Salamence base SpA is quite a bit lower. I would also have to give up EQ for hitting Heatran.
EVs yield 280 speed, 385 HP, and I dumped the rest into Defense.
Well, I guess that's all I've got to say about this team. This is my first foray into 5th generation OU battling. I had a rocky start, made a few changes here and there, but I don't know what else I can do to improve without giving up and jumping on the weather bandwagon.
Anyways, thanks for reading, would you kindly rate?
